- Ian (age 5) when told I couldn't join him for bedtime story because I was pushing up against deadlines for several different stories. That gives me 52 years.

And, yet, it's a loneliness shared with 40,000 other people. Go figure.
Of all team sports, baseball, with its graceful intermittences of action, its immense and tranquil field sparsely settled with poised men in white, its dispassionate mathematics, seems to be best suited to accommodate, and be ornamented by, a loner. It is an essentially lonely game.

Superman super fan pays it forward
A few months ago, a Superman fan in the St. Louis area was duped out of his treasured collection of comics, action figures and memorabilia, and news of his loss spread rapidly through Facebook, Tumblr and elsewhere. Comic fans and Superman devotees, like the Superfriends of Metropolis (Ill.), rallied around the loss and immediately flooded Mike Meyer's living room with more replacements for the stolen items than he could count, let alone keep.
