Wild Wild West Con 13

This weekend is Wild Wild West Con 13, which is being held at Casino del Sol in Tucson, Arizona from March 20-23. This year at Wild Wild West Con, you’re invited to step into the shadows of Steampunk and Halloween! I’m excited to be there as an author and vendor since many of my recent releases such as “The Last Priestess” in the anthology An Assembly of Monsters and “The Vampire of Rannoch Moor” from the anthology A Cry of Hounds fit right in with the theme. Of course, characters from my Scarle...

Space Battleship Yamato 2205

I have been a fan of anime almost as long as I remember. My fandom began with Tetsujin 28, released here in the United States as Gigantor. Within a couple of years, I would discover Mach Go Go Go, better known as Speed Racer in the United States. Much as I enjoyed both of these series, the one that really grabbed my attention was a movie that first appeared as a Sunday afternoon movie on KTLA in Los Angeles called Space Cruiser Yamato. I would ultimately become a Star Wars fan in part because el...

Red as Blood

Recently, I’ve been watching the British TV series Blake’s 7, which ran in the late 1970s and early 1980s. As with many TV series I enjoy, I pay attention to the writing credits. This is a habit I picked up in childhood from watching the original Star Trek, where I discovered authors such as Harlan Ellison, Norman Spinrad, Jerome Bixby, and David Gerrold. I was delighted to notice that two of my favorite Blake’s 7 episodes were written by Tanith Lee. I had encountered her stories in anthologies ...

Revisiting John Carter

Since I recently finished reading all of the original John Carter of Mars books by Edgar Rice Burroughs, I thought it would be fun to revisit the 2012 Disney film, John Carter starring Taylor Kitsch as the title character, Lynn Carter as Martian Princess Dejah Thoris, and Willem Defoe as the four-armed Thark warrior Tars Tarkas. I’ll note that this is one of those rare movies saw right when it was first released with the whole family. We even went for the whole 3-D presentation and loved it. A f...

Lost Sons: The Fall of New Atlantis

Today marks the release of the latest novella from Hadrosaur Productions, Lost Sons: The Fall of New Atlantis by Greg Ballan. This novella is a prequel to Greg’s Lost Sons series, which tells the story of a wanderer named Duncan Kord and his rivalry with a shady New York businessman named William Jefferson Sagahr. How did the rivalry of these two men start? How do they know each other? Why do they hate each other with their entire being? This novella gives you that story! Here’s the description ...

Adventures on Mars and Jupiter

When you have a to-read stack as large as mine, it’s easy to add new books on top of others that you intended to get to sooner than later. Back in 2020, during the pandemic, I had been reading the later John Carter of Mars books by Edgar Rice Burroughs and planned to finish the original series. However, the final book in the series, appropriately titled John Carter of Mars, became buried under some newer books. Recently, I was moving the books around and found the final book that I had never got...
