I have come to the conclusion that I'm lousy at having a cell phone as a primary phone. We got rid of our landline to save money in light of the impending lay-off, and I'm supposed to be using my cell phone instead, which I normally keep in my purse in case of emergencies. I can't get in the habit of keeping it with me. If I remember to put it on the dresser near where I write, I forget to take it with me when I leave the house, and vice versa. This morning I realized I hadn't seen it in ...

A link from
storm_grant: The Little Lost Lambda -- Some Thoughts by Victor J. Banis And the Lambda people, year in and year out, work to validate this miniscule view of the glbt world. Ruth Sims, author of a simply wonderful novel, The Phoenix, commented that she has long noticed an anti-female writer bias with the Lammies, and said wistfully that she knew she'd never get one of their gay fiction awards. I wrote her back that the problem was not her gender, she could put any name on it she l...

The pot roast last night turned out very well. There will be sandwiches with gravy for lunch today, oh yes, there will.
I'm getting a fall check for the furnace today, because as cool as the weather has been, we might actually need it soon.
No news on the job front. Troyce has put in a lot of applications, but none of the positions stay posted long, which means there are tons of applicants.

Albertson's was having a two for the price of one sale on pot roast, so we're having pot roast tonight. We'll probably be having leftover pot roast for some time, but that's a good thing, since there's a lot of things you can do with it, from open face sandwiches with gravy to enchiladas.

Hurricane Ike Anniversary
The Big Picture: One Year After Hurricane Ike. There are some really poignant before and after photos of Galveston here. From photo 2 on, click on the photo to get the alternate version.
One of the big differences that's hard to see in photos is the dead trees. Galveston used to have tree-lined streets, but the saltwater killed a huge number of them.
We were in Galveston on vacation when Ike was about to come in, and left at the first mandatory evacuation, so we were back home by the time it...

Okay, exploding toilet issue is now dealt with. Though I had to run and get a coat hanger for the plumbers, so they could retrieve the ring one of them lost down our sewer pipe. (I thought that was like a rule: you don't wear rings when doing plumbing, like you don't wear a tie while using a meat grinder.)
Of course, even as that was being fixed, I got a letter from one of my credit card companies saying they think my card was used against my will by a third party, with absolutely no other d...
