Thanks again for everybody's good wishes on Troyce's job interview. He thought he did really well, so we'll just have to wait and see.

I have to take Tasha to the vet this morning for her yearly exam, so let's hope that doesn't turn into a prolonged and exciting-in-the-bad-way experience.

They didn't have cool things like this when I was a kid:

Got woken up early this morning by a big thunderstorm, and it's still raining. It would be nice to have a year again where it's not drought-summer flood-winter.

This is the week where everyone has fun without us at World Fantasy

And Troyce has another job interview this morning, so please keep your fingers and toes crossed.

Lots of rain last night, and more today, plus cool weather = me + terrible sinus headache.

Troyce and I had our fourteenth wedding anniversary yesterday. We hadn't planned to do anything for it, but a friend who was in town for the Renfair (he does beautiful leather work, and owns a couple of booths out at TRF) came in to do dinner on Tuesday, and bought us a very nice bottle of wine, so we ended up having a great time.

BookLife: Strategies and Survival Tips for the 21st Century Writer This is Jeff VanderMeer's new site: Welcome to Booklifenow.com, a site that serves as support for and a supplement to my new book Booklife: Strategies and Survival Tips for the 21st-Century Writer. My book is somewhat unique: a manual that's about how to be a writer in our new media age, but with the spotlight on sustainable creativity and sustainable careers rather than on new media tools, although tools are an i...

We did some planning for our Halloween decorations this weekend. One of the places we went to was the Spirit Halloween store, which is neat because it has a lot of the large animated set pieces. They're insanely expensive, but it's very cool to see them in action. We got some ideas and then went to Michael's craft store to get supplies (thanks, [info:] heidi2524 !). I think we're going to try to do a bat cave in the hallway. I've done stone and boulders with packing paper before, for the Hercules ...

I mentioned this on Facebook, but I finished another fantasy novel the other day. It's called The Serpent Sea, but at the moment it has no chance of being published because it's set in the same world as The Cloud Roads, which hasn't sold to a publisher yet. But it's still feels good to finish it.

I'm also working on a YA fantasy, and I'm about a little more than halfway through it, but it doesn't have a publisher yet either.

I don't tend to talk about what I'm working on here, because I don'...

How often do other people have anxiety dreams? Lately I've been the Anxieticia, Queen of Anxiety Dreams of Anxietica. (These are dreams where you're specifically trying to do something fairly simple -- find a sweater, get to class, make a phone call, put your shoes on, open a door, remember where your phone is OMG, etc -- and you just can't, either through fumbling, interference, whatever.)

Reading: Death at Wentwater Court by Carola Dunn. This is the first of a series of mysteries set in post WW I Britain, in the flapper/Bright Young Thing time period, with a main character who is a young woman trying to stay independent from her family by becoming a journalist for Town and Country. There are a bunch of books in this series and I suspect I will read all of them.

Oscar Wilde and the Dead Man's Smile by Gyles Brandreth. Oscar Wilde, murders, Hamlet, and a steamship crossing th...
