Welcome to the Atheist Church

Today's Sermon, once again, is from the Gospel of Luke:

"And the devil said to him, If you are the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread. And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God" (Luke 4:3-4).

Paul Simon, in Loves Me Like a Rock sang, "When I was a little boy and the Devil would call my name, I'd say 'Now who do, who do you think you're fooling?'"

Then he spoke of his mother, and said, "She loves me like a ro...

Wired by God

There are some people who mistakenly think that it is wrong for anyone to respond to the gospel, simply for the reward of Heaven. Their belief is that we should do what's right just because it's right, not because of fear of punishment or promise of reward.

However, such idealism is unrealistic. We are sinners with desperately wicked hearts, and we are incapable of such noble motives.

However, God has "wired" us to respond to rewards and punishments. From the moment we are born, we have the a...

Seeing Clearly

If you are not a Christian, you are like someone who is driving directly towards the sun, as it sits low on the horizon. It's an annoying experience. Nothing is clear.

But it's so different if you drive with a low sun behind you. Everything looks clear.

If you have never repented and trusted in Jesus Christ, nothing will be clear. You will want to search outer space to see if you can find your origins, because you don't know where you came from. Neither will you know why you are here, or wher...

What About Jeffery?

"Do you understand that IF the Bible is true and you die Saved you will be sharing eternity with Geoffrey Dahmer? There is incredibly good evidence – and much research into the matter – and the general consensus is that Dahmer's conversion to Christ four years before his death was 100% genuine. Even if you DOUBT this, let's pretend this is actually the case. How would you feel about sharing a place in heaven with him, when someone else who might live an otherwise exemplary life but is in...

How Many Commandments are There?

"Sorry fellow atheists, I have to defend the Lutherans and Catholics. They don't treat women as simple property. For them the 9th Commandment is 'You shall not covet your neighbors wife'. All the property stuff follows in the 10th. That's when you get if you use the Ten Commandments from Deuteronomium (sic) 5,6–21, instead of those from Exodus." Anna Sethe

The Roman Catholic "Ten" Commandments are actually only nine. They deleted the Second Commandment--the one that says not to create an image...

The Lynch Mob and the Holocaust

"Do you think the Jewish people of the holocaust were being punished because their supposed ancestors said let his blood be upon us and our children?" icouldbe

The lynch mob that called for the crucifixion, did say that if they were wrong in what they wanted to do, that their own children should suffer for it. They only said that because they were absolutely sure that they were justified in having Jesus put to death. We have similar sayings today--"I'll be damned if it isn't so."

But their wor...

Welcome once again to the Atheist Church

Atheist creed: "We believe anything, as long as it's not in the Bible. Amen."

"And Jesus being full of the Holy Spirit returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, being forty days tempted of the devil" (Luke 4:1-4).

Of course, you don't believe in the devil. The very thought is ridiculous. But let me tell you about this devil, and what the Bible says of him.

He's not the little red guy with horns. He's your father. Your god. You are born of his spirit. He works in you t...

Grandiose ambiguous nebulous validation

Here, from a believer in evolution (Froggie), are "the facts that prove evolution happened." Then he lists:

Protein functional redundancy
DNA functional redundancy
Transposons
Redundant pseudogenes
Endogenous retroviruses
Anatomical parahomology
Molecular parahomology
Anatomical convergence
Molecular convergence
Anatomical suboptimal function
Molecular suboptimal function
Nested hierarchies
Convergence of independent phylogenies
Transitional forms

◦Reptile-mammals
◦Ape-humans

◦Le...

Something You Should Know...

I noticed more-than-usual abuse and name-calling in the comments yesterday (sadly, some had to be deleted). A number were pretty upset that I didn't bother to correct misunderstandings people had about the theory of evolution.

But if someone is in mortal danger, I'm not going to waste my time correcting details they believe about some fairy tale. Also, some of you were more angry than normal. I don't think I have seen the sophisticated Steven J. lose his cool before, although he did apologize...

Not Completely Ignorant...

"You've been repeatedly told, by people who know far more about science that you do, that evolutionary science is about the gradual change and diversification of life on earth - it doesn't tell us anything about why the sun and the planets are positioned as they are, or about weather patterns, or about gravity." DormantDragon

I'm not interested in your interpretation of what evolution does or doesn't do. I'm interested in what people believe about the theory. I have spoken to thousands who be...
