Aaron M. Cabrera– The Invention of Magic
After inadvertently summoning a demon, Jinx must now stop the evil that possessed her best friend from killing her ex.
Q & A with the AuthorWhat’s a misconception about midlife that you’d like to clear up?
At an age where you should have it all figured, some of us we still don’t. And that’s okay.
What was your favorite part of writing Paranormal Women’s Fiction?
I get to be funny man.
Tell us about your experience writing a book for the Aged to Perfection Antho.
One of the most challenging projects I’ve ever taken on.
Tell us about one of your upcoming titles.
Expanding “Requiem of the Heart” into a trilogy of novels.
Why was this story important for you to tell?
I needed a place to let me imagination run free without logistics of bringing it to life playing a role in what I put on paper.
If you could live the life of one single character in your story, who would it be and why?
Jinx. She’s a real witch.
Do you have a personal connection with any of the characters in your story? Does one resonate with you more than the others?
Jinx. I see myself not having everything figured out by my 40s. We want to keep the parts of ourselves that make us unique, but we need to grow up in the places where it matter.
What is something you hope the readers take away from your story?
What we loved and were fascinated by as children is what we were destined to do and become. Don’t let age play any role in your pursuit. But the older we get, the more people and their feelings we becomes responsible for.
What words of advice would you give to new writers who are just starting in the genre of Paranormal Women’s Fiction?
Every love story requires conflict. But conflict can still be funny and cute.

Jade Greenberg—Magic Takes Manhattan
One intoxicating New Yorker, a lifelong curse, and a splash of magic make an unforgettable midlife cocktail.
Q & A with the AuthorWhy was this story important for you to tell?
Joy, magic, and laughter felt like a valuable and necessary direction to go in with everything we’ve gone through over the past few years.
What is something you hope the readers take away from your story?
If readers can glean joy from it, if they get that magical feeling, if they laugh out loud at least once, I’ll be happy. And if reading Mandi’s story makes them happy too, even just for a little while, I’ll have thoroughly accomplished what I set out to do.
Do you have other books out or planned that are related to your anthology story? If so, which ones?
Mandi will be going to the Underworld next and Atlantis after that. And then there’s Danny’s story, which I’ll be giving away free on my website. But the entire Magic Takes Manhattan series will be out in ebook, paperback, and audiobook next summer.

Charise M. Studesville—The Perks of Being A Hoodoo Rose
In a small Midwestern town, one sister takes over the family hoodoo business and must break a centuries-old hex that threatens to prevent the women in their family from finding lasting love.
Q & A with the AuthorWhat’s a misconception about midlife that you’d like to clear up?
We are not obsolete or past our prime. We are the precise opposite of that, smarter, wiser, focused, practiced, resolute, innovative, seasoned. The idea that beauty and desirability are traits that belong solely to women under 40 is the most preposterous and damaging offshoot of Madison Avenue modern advertising tropes there has ever been. I look around at my friends who are over 40, and I am awestruck at the everything-ness that they encompass. One friend just turned 70 this year, and she is the most vibrant, brilliant, beautiful human I know…still writing, editing, dating, and falling in love. We didn’t grow up knowing that was a possibility. But now we are creating a new paradigm for ourselves, and the women who will come along after us. Also, sex after 40 is way hotter and more fun than anyone ever told us. We know ourselves, our likes and dislikes, our bodies. It’s honestly the best kept secret of midlife.
What was your favorite part of writing Paranormal Women’s Fiction?
The relationship between the sisters. While the main story revolves around two sisters in their forties, there are three generations of sisters in this story. While I was writing it, I was missing my own sister. She lives in Louisville, KY, while I live in Los Angeles. My heart has ached all through the pandemic that I couldn’t just hug her. Writing this story brought the spirit of our being reunited back to my mind and heart. We have had to work at our relationship. But no matter the bumps in the road, we are one another’s fiercest allies and protectors. And there is no one who can make us laugh like we do with each other. Our kids always know when we are talking, because we sound like we are 16-years-old, giggling as we tell our secrets. Writing this story brought all of that into play for me.
Tell us a bit about your story.
The story is ultimately about family, the sacred bond that sisters can have with one another, and the ancestral traditions and ties that bind us to each other. But it is also about the possibility that romantic love is out there for each of us, simply waiting for the right time to make its arrival into our lives.
Tell us about your experience writing a book for the Aged to Perfection Antho.
In writing my portion of the anthology, I immersed myself into the tradition of Hoodoo. I was taken back to my grandmother’s final wish for me to read Psalm 91 at her funeral. It is about being protected from all who may come to try and strike you down, but who will fail in doing so. We had traditions in our family, from my grandmother’s side, that were not named Hoodoo when they moved up to the Midwest, but were deeply entrenched in it from our roots in the south. That was an incredibly moving experience to reconnect with my own family roots and traditions and then expand them for this story, and this collection. I also was feeling really free in writing the romance portions of the story. That’s the part where I feel we get to explore that side of our life experience in a way our grandmothers really didn’t.
Tell us about one of your upcoming titles.
The Hoodoo Roses will be returning for a full-length book. Additionally, I have the first ever mixed-media memoir of my romp through 1980s New York City as a teen, that is a mixture of a Midwestern coming-of-age story that spins into a journey through the zeitgeist of the time as I befriended pop culture icons along the way. And lastly, as an outgrowth of my teaching meditation and a 20-year personal gratitude practice, I have a Personal Gratitude Journal to help others jumpstart their own practice.
Why was this story important for you to tell?
I strongly believe that we as a culture are the stories we share. And there are way too many holes in the fabric of that culture, missing pieces of our collective stories. This is a way to add in the flavor of a family who looks like my own, and comes from where I come from. It felt like I was taking a tiny step to undo the erasure that has happened when whole groups of people are left out of the narrative.
Do you have a writing routine?
Yes. Meditate. Workout. Journal. Surf the web. Social media. Research. Write Story. Repeat.
If you could live the life of one single character in your story, who would it be and why?
I’d probably choose Poloma. Her life as a sex expert who lives in Malibu sounds pretty damn good to me…without the cheating husband part.
Do you have a personal connection with any of the characters in your story? Does one resonate with you more than the others?
Poloma and Cree have the feel of my sister and I. There humor and love for one another, no matter what, is spot on with our real life love for one another. If I ever needed to get rid of a body, I’d definitely call my sister. I think that’s the mark of a really solid sister-best friendship.
What is something you hope the readers take away from your story?
The universality of family, love, and resilience. And maybe the idea that even when people look different than us, maybe have different backgrounds, beliefs, ancestry, that our love for one another is the key to our hearts and souls. Also, I hope they take away a sense of exploring the fun and deliciousness of romance after 40. That’s the fun part no one tells us is waiting on the other side.
How long have you been writing?
Since I was 5-years-old and wrote my first story, “The Evel Wich Bich.” It was inspired by my mother, and I don’t think she was very amused. I was a Journalism major in college, and after dropping out of law school (love the law, hate the linear thought required to practice it), I got my Masters in Writing. My first published story was in an anthology of Midwestern women writers, called Jane’s Stories. That was in 1994.
What words of advice would you give to new writers who are just starting in the genre of Paranormal Women’s Fiction?
Do your homework! Whatever realm of paranormal elements you choose need to be authentic and believable. And then, just have fun with it.
Do you have other books out or planned that are related to your anthology story? If so, which ones?
Yes. I have the next adventure of Poloma and Cree in Hoodoo Roses & Thorns. I am also working on a steamy MFM story of a woman torn between the two loves of her life, who both happen to be dead.

Stephanie Berchiolly– Train Bound to Forty
A force of nature unto herself, Florebelle Fairfield, must face a magical destiny she was never prepared for.
Q & A with the AuthorWhat’s a misconception about midlife that you’d like to clear up?
I think one misconception is we’re all depressed and feeling decrepit. The word “midlife” doesn’t mean everything’s going downhill from here or insta-fulfillment once you reach a certain age. It’s mostly a transitionary period. This misconception may have arisen from the negative connotations attributed to the word “midlife crisis,” but in reality, it’s a time when many people find their calling and experience a sense of renewal.
What was your favorite part of writing Paranormal Women’s Fiction?
I loved writing the entire story, but if I had to pick one part, I think it would be creating new worlds and characters where there’s a happily ever after. Most of my other writing didn’t end well, so I’m very excited to see what readers think.
Tell us a bit about your story.
A force of nature unto herself, Florebelle Fairfield, must face a magical destiny she was never prepared for.
Tell us about your experience writing a book for the Aged to Perfection Antho.
I enjoyed writing for this anthology. The other authors I interacted with were all a wealth of knowledge, inspiration, and all-around great people. Plus, I had a lot of fun coming up with ideas and characters for this book. And yes, it was a pretty cool experience writing about a forty-plus-year-old protagonist living her best paranormal life!
Tell us about one of your upcoming titles.
The first full-length novel in the Scenic Magical Midlife Tour series is coming out in Spring of 2022. I’m also working on short stories related to some characters in the novella, which will only be available to my mailing list.
Why was this story important for you to tell?
It’s an empowering story of overcoming adversity, betrayal, and the truly unexpected. I want readers to recognize they have the power to feel confident and strong, even when faced with significant struggles in their lives.
Do you have a writing routine?
Every morning, I wake up and write nine craptacular haiku and three pages in my journal with a fountain pen. I don’t edit or reread it. This practice helps me get the kinks out and approach my work without judgement or second-guessing.
What is something you hope the readers take away from your story?
I want readers to see a bit of themselves in the story. I want them to see they’re not alone and that there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel.
How long have you been writing?
I have been writing ever since I can remember. Because of a congenital disability, I spent a lot of time in body casts as a child. Since I couldn’t move freely, my primary means of escape was through books. These books sparked a desire to create my own worlds and characters. So, I wrote.
Fun fact: I’m pretty sure I plagiarised a piece that won a writing contest in elementary school from an episode of the Smurfs.
What words of advice would you give to new writers who are just starting in the genre of Paranormal Women’s Fiction?
Read a lot of PWF books! I might be an outlier, but when I wrote my first novella, I read three books in a day. After that, I read around a book a day to keep my subconscious entrenched in the expectations of the genre.
Do you have other books out or planned that are related to your anthology story? If so, which ones?
I have the first full-length novel in the Scenic Magical Midlife Tour series coming out in Spring of 2022. So far, I’m planning on having four books in the series out by 2023.

When she strikes a deal with a nefarious stranger to save her granddaughter’s life, Inez Walthrop is dragged into a world of werewolves, vampires, and monster-hunters that she thought only existed in her nightmares.
Q & A with the AuthorWhat’s a misconception about midlife that you’d like to clear up?
That it’s all bad! I have actually never felt more self-assured, happy or confident (despite the hot flashes, hip pain, and gray hair lol!)
What was your favorite part of writing Paranormal Women’s Fiction?
I love writing heroines my own age that I can relate to. We have different priorities and goals and problems after 40, so it gives me a chance to represent that in an authentic way.
Tell us a bit about your story.
Let’s see…so I’d say it’s a modern twist on the Rumpelstiltskin trope. My heroine is faced with losing her granddaughter to a terminal illness and in that desperate moment, she makes a terrible bargain that changes the course of her entire life. It’s part urban fantasy, with lots of werewolves and vampires and battle scenes, but part love story, with a heavy dollop of humor.
Tell us about your experience writing a book for the Aged to Perfection Antho.
It’s been such a great experience. All the ladies in this anthology are great writers, and bring so much creativity to the table. I am as excited to read the other stories as I was to write mine!
Tell us about one of your upcoming titles.
The Bargain is actually a stand alone prequel to two different series in progress. One follows Inez’s (the heroine in The Bargain) granddaughter, Diana, as she realizes her destiny as a Hunter. The other is a collection of twisted fairytales, where I take stories like Snow White and Cinderella and flip them on their heads to feature a badass, over 40 heroine who isn’t content to just sit around and wait for her prince to come.
Do you have a personal connection with any of the characters in your story? Does one resonate with you more than the others?
I find I really connected with Inez in this story. Mainly, because I have a mild form of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder that results in a lot of what’s called “magical thinking”. Whenever my mind isn’t occupied, I craft “what if” scenarios. For example, for Inez, the “what if” comes when, facing her granddaughter’s imminent death, she is forced to decide whether to make a deal with the proverbial devil without actually understanding what she’s bargaining away. As a mother of grown sons, I feel like there is almost nothing I wouldn’t agree to if I was in Inez’s shoes, so it was really awesome to explore that (and the resulting rollercoaster that ensues).
How long have you been writing?
Full time for about ten years!
What words of advice would you give to new writers who are just starting in the genre of Paranormal Women’s Fiction?
Make sure that your characters portray the genuine experience of being X age, whatever that might be for them. Whenever I read a PWF where the woman acts/feels/moves like a 20 year old and the only nod to her age is a little gray at the temples, I immediately want to call BS on them lol! Show me a heroine that needs a heating pad after a night of sleeping on someone’s couch, or has hot flashes that soak the sheets. It’s not the same for everyone, but show me SOMETHING!

There is a little part of me in every character I write. And with some of them, I stress the word little. However, picking one character is like Sophie’s Choice for me. I love all of them.
What is something you hope the readers take away from your story?
I hope they laugh. I laughed like a dummy writing it.
How long have you been writing?
My entire life. First published in 2013.
What words of advice would you give to new writers who are just starting in the genre of Paranormal Women’s Fiction?
Female friendships are the key.
Do you have other books out or planned that are related to your anthology story? If so, which ones?

Q & A with the AuthorWhat’s a misconception about midlife that you’d like to clear up?
That at a certain point you should stop chasing after your dreams. I’m on career three and loving it.
What was your favorite part of writing Paranormal Women’s Fiction?
I like how real you can get in a paranormal world. Our MCs live real lives and have real issues. Who’s going to babysit these kids while I take out this monster?
Tell us a bit about your story.
While I can’t write anything without a little mystery and magic, at its heart this story is a second chance romance between two kids reconnecting after nearly fifty years.
Tell us about your experience writing a book for the Aged to Perfection Antho.
For a short story, it took me forever to get on paper. Sometimes it’s harder to write short!
Tell us about one of your upcoming titles.
While You Were Spellbound is the sixth book in my Witching Hour series. In a lot of ways, it’s what the series has been leading up to while also bringing back some of the cozy mystery elements that have been removed from the more recent books.
Why was this story important for you to tell?
I always enjoy writing second chance because that’s my love story. I went on a couple of quasi-dates with my significant other, spent years without talking, then reconnected.
Do you have a writing routine?
Yes… and no 🙂
If you could live the life of one single character in your story, who would it be?
Nora (the main character)
Do you have a personal connection with any of the characters in your story? Does one resonate with you more than the others?
Augustus was a blast to write and based on one of my best friends.
How long have you been writing?
I started doing NaNoWriMo in 2010. But it took me until 2015 to finish anything. I’ve been publishing under various pseudonyms since 2017.
What words of advice would you give to new writers who are just starting in the genre of Paranormal Women’s Fiction?
Read a variety of stories before setting out to write your own. The wonderful thing about PWF is the stories can be so different.
Do you have other books out or planned that are related to your anthology story? If so, which ones?
Yes! This story is a prequel to a new series I’m planning for 2022.

Nicole Rosas–Eternal
A last-minute whirlwind trip changes everything this forty-two-year-old thought she knew about herself and life.
Q & A with the AuthorWhat’s a misconception about midlife that you’d like to clear up?
There’s the misconception about midlife that you begin to slow down after forty. That couldn’t be further from the truth. Everyone is living life on a different path and trajectory. Some of us find our true loves in our forties and beyond, while some of us find our life’s purpose after thirty. There’s no wrong way to live it, and that’s why we need this representation in literature and on the screen.
What was your favorite part of writing Paranormal Women’s Fiction?
I fell in love with the epic story that revealed itself to me because of this incredible opportunity. The story between Maria and Fernando would never have been born without the encouragement of Mandy M Roth. I am grateful to her, as are Maria and Fernando. It was an honour to meet these complex and layered characters.
Tell us a bit about your story.
The story of “Eternal” has many parallels to the isolation felt during the Covid-19 pandemic. It revolves around two people trying to find their way back to connecting to something real in the midst of surrounding horrors.
Tell us about your experience writing a book for the Aged to Perfection Antho.
I couldn’t have asked for a more supportive first-time publishing experience. Mandy and Michelle were patient, caring and encouraging. I am truly honoured to be included amongst this list of seasoned and accomplished writers.
Tell us about one of your upcoming titles.
I would love to further explore the backstory of Eternal. I haven’t decided if I’m going to change POV and write an extended version of the story that exists or whether I will pick up where the novella leaves off.
Why was this story important for you to tell?
I wanted to write an epic story in the land of my ancestors, Peru. I hold very deep ties to the country and its culture. I want to see it showcased more in the stories that I create both in prose and on film and television.
Do you have a writing routine?
I try? My goal is to sit down and write 2-3 hours a day on a screenplay or at least 1,000 words/day of prose. Does that always happen? No. But this is my goal, and it’s always important to set goals. I tend to do my best work in the morning or afternoon, because I spend the rest of the day researching and daydreaming. I would like to emphasize here that daydreaming is an incredibly important step in the creative process.
If you could live the life of one single character in your story, who would it be and why?
I would have to say Maria. In my mind, she goes through such huge changes and finds a level of connection that rivals those found in the most beloved of fairytales.
Do you have a personal connection with any of the characters in your story? Does one resonate with you more than the others?
Sadly, I resonate with Fernando’s feelings of isolation. The pandemic has been incredibly hard for people. I wanted to paint these feelings into his experience.
What is something you hope the readers take away from your story?
I want readers to believe in love and romance. I want them to believe that love can find you at any age, whether you’re looking for it or not. Love is an energy that has a way of finding you when you leave a crack open in your heart and soul to receive it.
How long have you been writing?
I’ve been writing poems and short stories since the middle school years, but none of those will be found as I destroyed them many moons ago. I started taking my writing seriously ten years ago when I began screenwriting and producing short films.
What words of advice would you give to new writers who are just starting in the genre of Paranormal Women’s Fiction?
Have fun! Let your imagination run wild and think big!
Do you have other books out or planned that are related to your anthology story? If so, which ones?
I would like to continue to explore the story of Eternal. There are so many subplots and characters to explore. I don’t think the epic nature of the story, with its incredible locations, will be leaving my consciousness any time soon.
