Q & A with the Author

What’s a misconception about midlife that you’d like to clear up?

You’re life’s not over. We change with time because we grow and learn and we evolve, but we can always have a fresh start.

What was your favorite part of writing Paranormal Women’s Fiction?

Writing heroines my age and giving their life second chances.

Tell us a bit about your story.

This heroine thought her happy life (which was really a mess) came crashing down and sometimes you need to hit rock bottom to rise like a phoenix.

Tell us about your experience writing a book for the Aged to Perfection Antho.

It’s been awesome. I love writing adult women.

Tell us about one of your upcoming titles.

I have some prison shifters that I’m excited about coming soon.

Why was this story important for you to tell?

Not every love story starts perfectly. Sometimes we have to go through some hard times before we find ourselves and realize loving ourselves is the longest lasting romance you’ll ever have. This then allows you to truly love others.

Do you have a writing routine?

Not really.

If you could live the life of one single character in your story, who would it be and why?

Gerri Wilder, my Paranormal Dating Agency matchmaker. She’s fun!

Do you have a personal connection with any of the characters in your story? Does one resonate with you more than the others?

I think the main character female. I felt her pain and though I haven’t gone through the same situation, I think all women with children and a family who find a cheating husband go through the struggle of should I let it go and keep trying and keep the family together or should I end it? It’s a tough spot to be in. I don’t wish it on anyone. But when you’ve put others first your whole life, you get to a point you resent it and eventually you will say forget this and put yourself first. Because if you’re putting them first, and they’re putting them first, who’s putting you first? exactly.

What is something you hope the readers take away from your story?

That you can restart no matter how old you are and no matter what happens. Every day is a new start.

What words of advice would you give to new writers who are just starting in the genre of Paranormal Women’s Fiction?

Cool it on the sexy times. These women need to find themselves first. That stuff’s secondary.

Do you have other books out or planned that are related to your anthology story? If so, which ones?

Yes! Many other PWF.

Book in the Aged to Perfection Anthology

Jenna RiversSpell of a Time

You have to be a total witch to survive dating in your forties.

Q & A with the Author

What’s a misconception about midlife that you’d like to clear up?

Your whole life doesn’t fall apart after forty. It gets better!

What was your favorite part of writing Paranormal Women’s Fiction?

I love creating a story about a woman in my age bracket who discovers just how powerful she is, with or without magic.

Tell us a bit about your story.

As if turning forty-four and receiving your powerful familial magic wasn’t enough, now Zara Greystone has to navigate the mayhem of dating for the first time in over twenty years. When she tries out paranormal dating apps, she finds out that online trolls and ghosting take on whole new meanings. Find out if she survives in Spell of a Time.

Tell us about your experience writing a book for the Aged to Perfection Antho.

It’s an amazing experience to be invited to include a story with such fabulous authors. I wanted my story to be fun and cheeky to fit in.

Tell us about one of your upcoming titles.

Bombspell: Book 2 and Spell on Heels: Book 3 in the Charming Midlife series will be releasing in spring 2022.

Why was this story important for you to tell?

I enjoy exploring Zara’s trepidation and fears in finding out who she really is. She feels like she should have it all figured out in her forties, but learns that it’s okay to choose the life she wants at any age.

Do you have a writing routine?

I get up every morning and meet with other authors on a regular Clubhouse room to prep myself for working. After the room finishes, I do author writing sprints for several hours.

If you could live the life of one single character in your story, who would it be and why?

As much as I would say my main character Zara, I actually would love to be Valerie, the bakery owner and only sole human friend out of the girlfriend group. She is a foil to Zara in that she doesn’t get to have magic but has a son who is a bear shifter and is surrounded by supernatural beings. And yet, she’s content to be a support to everyone else and live her life as it is rather than wishing it was something else.

Do you have a personal connection with any of the characters in your story? Does one resonate with you more than the others?

I do connect to Zara’s desire to be better and to have things figured out. Although I’m not quite as lost as she is nor am starting my life over, I do spend a lot of time trying to figure out what I want the next twenty years of my life to be.

What is something you hope the readers take away from your story?

I hope readers have fun watching Zara attempt to date in her forties but also to discover what she really wants in her life. That it’s okay to try new things but also decide what does and doesn’t work for her. I absolutely love being in my forties, and I’m trying to get Zara there by end of the series!

How long have you been writing?

I’ve been a full-time writer for four years after years of writing in all different genres. But now I’ve found what I love to write and absolutely enjoy my job!

What words of advice would you give to new writers who are just starting in the genre of Paranormal Women’s Fiction?

As an author who was used to writing the ingenue twenty-something main character who’s trying to figure things out, I find it very interesting to take the same type of story journey but exploring how different that path can be for a character in her forties. Life definitely changes in that age bracket, but it’s so important for me that it’s not negative changes. It’s how we navigate those differences using our previous life experiences. And that makes the stories for PWF different and enjoyable for me.

Do you have other books out or planned that are related to your anthology story? If so, which ones?

My story comes as part of the A Charmed Midlife series. Book 1 – Spell Shocked, Book 2 – Bombspell, Book 3 – Spell on Heels

Book in the Aged to Perfection Anthology

Shéa MacLeod–Day of the Were-Jackal

Edwina Gale is used to tracking down supernatural bad guys, but when her romantic weekend is interrupted by the murder of a drag queen, can she solve the crime before an innocent person is convicted?

Q & A with the Author

What’s a misconception about midlife that you’d like to clear up?

That life is over and it’s all downhill. I call BS. Frankly, life is only beginning at 40 and every year it just keeps getting better. Oh, sure, there are aches and pains and things don’t work like they used to, but there are also fewer flying forks, if you get my drift.

What was your favorite part of writing Paranormal Women’s Fiction?

I love showing a woman “of a certain age” (as they used to say) being her badass self, both physically and emotionally. With fewer forks comes less angst and more keeping it real.

Tell us a bit about your story.

Edwina Gale is used to tracking down supernatural bad guys, but when her romantic weekend is interrupted by the murder of a drag queen, she’s determined to solve the crime before an innocent person is convicted.

Tell us about your experience writing a book for the Aged to Perfection Antho.

It was a bit wild. I had a story in mind and was several pages deep before I realized that story wasn’t ready to be told (it will be, just not now). Instead, Edwina Gale (who is one of my favorite characters) kept showing up with her witchy self, telling me I needed to write HER story. So I gave in and did what she wanted. Once I did that, the words just flowed like melted chocolate being poured over a hot donut.

Tell us about one of your upcoming titles.

My next PWF novel is the third in my Season of the Witch series, Battle of the Hexes. JJ’s ex has shown up in Miracle Bay and she’s got some explaining to do…

Why was this story important for you to tell?

I guess Edwina Gale is the sort of person I’d like to be in 15 years. She isn’t sitting in her chair, watching Judge Judy and waiting for the end. She’s out there following her calling, using her magic, and living life to the fullest.

Do you have a writing routine?

Absolutely. I thrive on routine (with flexibility for brunch with friends or random cocktail hours). I am not a morning person, so I definitely don’t get up early! Mornings are spent answering emails, tracking budgets, all the ordinary minutiae of life and running a business. After lunch is writing time. I usually write in sprints and often work on two books at a time.

If you could live the life of one single character in your story, who would it be and why?

Honestly? I’d rather be myself because I can explore ALL the characters, but if I had to choose one, it would Edwina. She’s strong, determined, and not afraid of anything.

Do you have a personal connection with any of the characters in your story? Does one resonate with you more than the others?

I have some sort of personal connection with all my characters in one way or another. With Edwina, she carries aspects of myself I’d like to have or would like to be stronger.

What is something you hope the readers take away from your story?

Loving and accepting people for who they are is the most important thing.

How long have you been writing?

All my life. I was making up stories from the moment I could speak. They were mostly garbled, but I was telling them anyway. I’ve been a published author since 2011.

What words of advice would you give to new writers who are just starting in the genre of Paranormal Women’s Fiction?

Be real. Be real about the struggles and truths of getting older as a woman. But also be real about the awesomeness. One of the things I explore in Season of the Witch are JJ’s panic attacks. Why? Because that’s a thing I started experiencing with perimenopause. I did some research and discovered 30% of women in perimenopause experience panic attacks and anxiety even though they never had anxiety or panic attacks prior. Yet, nobody talks about that. So I wanted to be real about what I was experiencing, what a lot of women experience, but in a fun way with magic.

Do you have other books out or planned that are related to your anthology story? If so, which ones?

Yes! Edwina Gale originally appeared in my Deepwood Witches Mysteries. She has two novellas which are super fun! In Alchemy, Arsenic, and Alibis she meets the handsome Jeremiah Dekes and fights off an ancient Egyptian god. In Crystals, Cauldrons, and Crime, she and Dekes juggle dating and crime solving after several shifters go missing on the full moon. Which leads to Day of the Were-Jackal, the first in the new Edwina Gale PWF series (coming later in 2022) which will focus on her and Dekes and her badass local coven.

Aged to Perfection 19 Author Anthology – Featured Author: Renee GeorgeMeet Renee George

USA Today Bestselling author Renee George writes paranormal mysteries and romances because she loves all things supernatural and whodunit. Her paranormal women’s fiction series, Nora Black Midlife Psychic Mysteries, came about as a direct result of wanting to read about characters her age who still had gas in the tank for romance, adventure, and the best friendships.

Book in the Aged to Perfection Anthology

Renee George–The Age of Inno-Scents (Nora BlackSeries)

A fun ’80s-themed mystery event takes a deadly turn when Nora Black’s psychic nose sniffs out a real murderous plot.

Q & A with the Author

What’s a misconception about midlife that you’d like to clear up?

That while my knees hurt, I can still get it on the dance floor.

What was your favorite part of writing Paranormal Women’s Fiction?

I am 53 years old, and I don’t feel geriatric. I loved writing a heroine who is still living her best life. Adventure, new romance, strong friendships. These things make me happy. Bonus: It was awesome discovering readers were ready to see heroines that were middle-aged but never past their prime.

Tell us a bit about your story.

A fun ’80s-themed mystery event takes a deadly turn when Nora Black’s psychic nose sniffs out a real murderous plot. School may be out for murder, but Nora and friends will have to find a killer to avoid a deadly detention.

Tell us about your experience writing a book for the Aged to Perfection Antho.

I love Nora Black, so writing a story for her was so fantastic. Writing short for this character, though, was tougher than expected. I had to keep adjusting the story to keep it under 30k. LOL

Tell us about one of your upcoming titles.

“When the Spell Blows: Grimoires of a Middle-aged Witch Book 3 (April 2022)

Being a forty-something, newly divorced, single mom is hard enough. Finding out I’m a witch, and that every Tom, Dick, and Monster is crawling out the woodwork to steal my power every time I gain a new element adds another level of difficulty.

My grimoire has revealed a new element, and this one really blows. Once again, I’m going to need the help of a grouchy gnome, a cuddly imp, and a smokin’ hottie druid to keep me from getting carried away in the tornado of action threatening to rip the roof right off my midlife.

My new reality is nature’s cruel midlife trick. Surviving Earth and Fire magic without blowing up my entire world has been hard enough. If I don’t master Air, I’ll get swept away. Literally.”

Why was this story important for you to tell?

Nora is in an age-gap romance with a much younger man. Ezra is 19 years her junior, but I want to show that their relationship is about more than the obstacles they have to overcome. They share similar outlooks on life. They have similar values and future goals. And they don’t try to control each other. It’s also about the people, her best friends, and how they all come together and do what friends do. 100% support. And I was able to tie it into a mystery that takes place during an 80s themed mystery event, so I got to say words like tubular, grody, totally, and it was like, totally, awesome. Also, the music of the 80s was just pure fun.

Do you have a writing routine?

I write at night and whenever I can. I don’t have a specific routine….unless you count panic as a routine.

If you could live the life of one single character in your story, who would it be and why?

I would totally be Nora. LOL. She’s got the best friends and a hot young guy who loves her. Plus, she has a really cool psychic gift (she sees other people memories related to scents) and she kicks ass as a sleuth.

Do you have a personal connection with any of the characters in your story? Does one resonate with you more than the others?

Nora is me physically. We’ve both had hysterectomies, we’re on hormone replacement therapy, we had parents die in the last couple of years, near sight failing, and knees aching. Still, I travel, I go on hikes, I scuba dive, and I recently (right before the pandemic) did indoor skydiving, for the which the instructor said I was the best in the class, LOL. So, a lot of life lived, but still a lot of life left to live.

What is something you hope the readers take away from your story?

I want them to feel satisfied and happy, and I want them thinking about the characters and their relationships long after the story ends.

How long have you been writing?

Professionally since 2005.

What words of advice would you give to new writers who are just starting in the genre of Paranormal Women’s Fiction?

Love women. Love older women. Give readers heroines they can identify with and aspire to be. Even with paranormal and fantasy, readers love seeing themselves or seeing who they want to be in these characters.

Do you have other books out or planned that are related to your anthology story? If so, which ones?

“Sense and Scent Ability: A Nora Black Midlife Psychic Mystery Book 1
For Whom the Smell Tolls: A Nora Black Midlife Psychic Mystery Book 2
War of the Noses: A Nora Black Midlife Psychic Mystery Book 3
Aroma With a View: A Nora Black Midlife Psychic Mystery Book 4

Q & A with the Author

What’s a misconception about midlife that you’d like to clear up?

That your value is less. This is absolutely not true. Experience, and knowing yourself is such a rewarding place to be.

Tell us a bit about your story.

This short story follows an empath, a sorcerer of the mind, traveling to a small town to research a curious case involving a curse. But the town isn’t as welcoming, except for one of the local magic wielding men. Is he a friend, foe, or lover?

Tell us about your experience writing a book for the Aged to Perfection Antho.

This was such a fun experience, and to be able to chat with other newer authors like myself about our processes and working in this genre was like a virtual writer’s retreat.

Tell us about one of your upcoming titles.

The next title in the Hexed On A Feeling series will involve a heavy magical element that Nicole hasn’t dealt with before. We’re going to get to know her more.

Do you have a writing routine?

I have been maintaining a strict morning writing routine for the last while. Then I take a break, followed by some sporadic writing later in the evening.

If you could live the life of one single character in your story, who would it be and why?

It’s probably an obvious answer, but my main character Nicole. While it was harder on her when she was younger, now that she has really come into her own with her power, she has become less deferential, and more confident. There’s still more for her to learn, but she’s ready for it!

Do you have a personal connection with any of the characters in your story? Does one resonate with you more than the others?

I was told early in life that I was too sensitive. So I wanted to create a character where that sensitivity wasn’t a liability, but an asset. By taking it to a paranormal level, it became a power for our heroine.

How long have you been writing?

I began writing about ten years ago, when I was traveling and met so many interesting people.

Do you have other books out or planned that are related to your anthology story? If so, which ones?

I have more books planned. I will continue following Nicole and Jayson on their next adventure together. Different locale, different scenario. We’ll see their relationship shift and grow in this paranormal world.

NYT, PW, and USA Today bestselling author Yasmine Galenorn writes urban fantasy and all things paranormal. She lives in the Seattle area with her husband and cats.

Book in the Aged to Perfection Anthology

Yasmine GalenornWeaver’s Web

Paranormal investigator and witch January Jaxson, and her wolf-shifter boyfriend Killian O’Connell, take a vacation for Valentine’s Day and find themselves in a search for their hostess’s missing sister.

Q & A with the Author

What’s a misconception about midlife that you’d like to clear up?

That life declines after 50. I’m sixty and–although the body takes a toll–I’m more clear about my life than I’ve ever been. I am stronger as a person, I am happier, and feel more successful than ever before.

What was your favorite part of writing Paranormal Women’s Fiction?

Writing about women who’ve been through the wringer and come out on top.

Tell us a bit about your story.

I had an abusive childhood, an abusive first marriage, and so I know all about starting over. I’ve learned a lot about living life without a safety net, and about taking those lemons and making lemon meringue pie out of them. Sometimes, the baggage spurs you on to become stronger and more secure in yourself.

Tell us about your experience writing a book for the Aged to Perfection Antho.

I knew I wanted to base the story in my Moonshadow Bay Series, and to explore January’s (my main character) new relationship more, even while adding in yet another spooky experience to her life. I wanted to address some of the boundary issues and personal choice issues that women who’ve been through a bad relationship carry forward into the next one.

Tell us about one of your upcoming titles.

I’m currently working on books for my urban fantasy Wild Hunt series and its spinoffs right now–The Tangled Sky, The Broken Shore, and Tattered Thorns are all coming out this year, along with others. I will also be writing more in my Moonshadow Bay series as well.

Why was this story important for you to tell?

Because there wasn’t room in the earlier books of this series for me to explore some of the questions January and Killian faced in this story, and it’s a bridge to the next part of the series arc.

Do you have a writing routine?

I write almost every day. I find the world I’m writing in stays fresher in my mind this way. I’ve been writing since I was a child, and writing professionally since 1996, and with every book, I reignite my love for writing. I get up, get to work, and I work 60+ hours per week, but since I love my work, I don’t mind the time spent at all.

If you could live the life of one single character in your story, who would it be and why?

I think Rowan, January’s great-grandmother. Though she doesn’t make much of an appearance in Weaver’s Web (since January is on vacation), I love her character. She’s witchblood, over two hundred years old, and a powerful, confident character who helps January learn as her powers blossom out.

Do you have a personal connection with any of the characters in your story? Does one resonate with you more than the others?

I’ve been through some of what January has–though my own experiences have been rougher. Plus, since I’m in the Craft, I work with the paranormal in ‘real life’ too, similar to the way she does.

What is something you hope the readers take away from your story?

That a relationship doesn’t have to be a clone of anyone else’s relationship, that every couple is unique and that life can be joyful with the family you create from friends.

How long have you been writing?

Since I was three–well, I’ve been telling stories since then. I’ve been writing stories since about 8 years old. I got my first contract in 1996, and I’ve been writing professionally since then. I’m sixty-one now, and still finding joy in my work.

What words of advice would you give to new writers who are just starting in the genre of Paranormal Women’s Fiction?

Think outside the box. Yes, January is divorced but you can also have a character who’s never been married, who isn’t human but still is navigating ‘midlife’.

Do you have other books out or planned that are related to your anthology story? If so, which ones?

Yes, there are five books in the Moonshadow Bay series that are currently available, and the Moonshadow Bay series is part of my Shadow Towns World, which also includes the Whisper Hollow Series.

Book in the Aged to Perfection Anthology

Macy Dixon–Midlife Shelf Life

Life was all books and tea and frosty autumn days until Emmaline Fox had a magickal hot flash that changed her life…

Q & A with the Author

What’s a misconception about midlife that you’d like to clear up?

That single women over forty must be in wont of a husband.

What was your favorite part of writing Paranormal Women’s Fiction?

Being able to write characters who are still badasses, no matter how much their back aches.

Tell us a bit about your story.

Emmaline is a single academic booklover who’s had a lifelong crush on the same man. And when she inherits a Magicker Office that can turn her into any person in the world, she turns into his ex…

Tell us about your experience writing a book for the Aged to Perfection Antho.

It was the most fun I’ve had writing in years. Emmaline is so much of me, it’s been great to be inside her head.

Tell us about one of your upcoming titles.

I’m releasing more books in the Forty First Dates for a Midlife Magicker series, and specifically, the next book, she meets her Matchmaker.

Why was this story important for you to tell?

There’s so much of my personality in Emmaline’s story. It was fun to give her a life that I would have liked and then see what happened. So fun.

Do you have a writing routine?

Every morning at 5am before work starts!

If you could live the life of one single character in your story, who would it be and why?

Emmaline. Absolutely. I’d love to be able to turn into any person I wanted to. Be completely anonymous.

Do you have a personal connection with any of the characters in your story? Does one resonate with you more than the others?

I actually really resonate with Marcus, the love interest, as well. He’s been dating and dating, trying to find his magickal pair, and he’s just never been able to find her. There’s so much of me in Marcus, as well.

What is something you hope the readers take away from your story?

That it’s never too late for love.

How long have you been writing?

Since I was a kid writing New Kids on the Block fan fiction. Way too long.

What words of advice would you give to new writers who are just starting in the genre of Paranormal Women’s Fiction?

Read. Everything. In. The. Genre. There are so many amazing writers doing this right now, and there’s still so much room. It’s important to know what the readers are loving, and then to find your own spin on it.

Do you have other books out or planned that are related to your anthology story? If so, which ones?

There will be more of the Forty First Dates for a Midlife Magicker, and then there’s a related series (in the same world) called Dead By Midlife.

One Author, Many Choices

Hey Readers!

oneauthormanychoices

I thought I’d answer some of the FAQs I get about my books. 🙂

I’ve been a published author for nearly 18 years. During that time, I’ve written in many genres and in different styles, some for publishers, some as an indie.

All are in ebook and paperback. Most are in audiobook. Several in hardback. They’re at all major vendors and you should be able to order through your fave bookstores.

Yes, I write all my own books. Changing genres/styles helps me keep the stories fresh and challenges me as a creative. Anything co-authored will include that author’s name on the book.

Where to start is one of the FAQs I get from new-to-me readers. The simple answer is, it depends on what you like to read.

The Qurilixen World is a collection of series. There are several book ones. You can start anywhere, or find a series reading order on my website.

Do you have a favorite? I’d love to hear about it! 🙂

Paranormal Women’s Fiction & Romance from NYT & USAT Bestselling Author, Michelle M. Pillow.

Even after death, it would appear her grandmother isn’t done controlling her life. (and that’s putting it mildly)

With the help of new friends and a love interest her grandparents would have hated, Kari must finally learn to stand up for herself and unravel the tragic mystery of her past.

Heather, Vivien, Lorna, and Sue are back! With the help of Grandma Julia’s ghost, they’re kicking supernatural butt and taking names.
