‘Salem’s Lot by Stephen King (1975)

by Crimsenrose

It’s an early October evening, the kids are tucked in, and you are curled up on the couch all alone save for your trusty iPad. The glow from it’s screen is the only light in a sea of dark. You open the Kindle app and begin the next chapter of Salem’s Lot, eagerly anticipating what could happen next. A sound from the next room startles you out of the book. There it is again. You call out but no one answers. You begin reading again. A few...

*WARNING: Mild Spoilers Ahead*

by Robert

What happened to Carrie White in the summer of 1979 is no secret. Most know about the prom night prank that left the troubled teen covered in pig blood and subsequently the entire town burned to the ground and most of the citizens dead. Most people know this from the original film from 1976. But do you know how she came to that fateful night? The book, King’s first published work, begins with a troubled teen girl...

The 10 Most Influential Books On Me As A Writer

Recently some writers I am friends with on Facebook began to post their top ten books that had the most impact on them. It was no small feat narrowing down the list of influential books to only ten, but it was fun going back and looking at what had the most impact and why. So I present to you my list of the ten most influential books on me as a writer and as a reader:

Cujo (Stephen King): The first “adult” horror novel I ever read. It’s also the first King book I ever read. This started a life...

THE STRAIN – EPISODES ONE AND TWO

EmeraldDragun Studios:

I have tended to be apprehensive when it comes to books adapted to television. Sure, Game of Thrones is amazing TV, but for every GoT we get an Under the Dome or a Walking Dead season 3. Hell, even True Blood is total shut right now. So of course I was worried that a book series I love, The Strain, was getting the TV treatment. Boy was I worried for nothing. This show, after only 2 episodes, has solidly planted it’s hooks in me and I don’t want it to let go.

Fellow blogge...

Writing Isn’t A Hobby

EmeraldDragun Studios:

Truth from someone who gets it. I’m working on book 4 and still get these questions. Anyone not sure what I, or any writer does will benefit from this post.

I was talking to some friends on Twitter today about a common issue shared by many serious writers, whether they’re just starting out or they’ve already begun making money off their writing. People who aren’t writers don’t seem to understand what writing is to those of us wh...

What I learned ( and I am still learning) About Self-Publishing Part 2

quote-i-accrued-anger-from-people-s-low-opinion-of-me-and-my-work-and-for-the-work-i-might-be-capable-of-harrison-ford-63771

During this self-publishing quest I have tried many things and read about many more. What I can tell you without question about my approach to this new release is…

It totally failed!

Now let me qualify that. Did I get downloads? Yes. Did I get some paid sales at the same time? Yes. What I mean by ‘fail’ is a layered answer. To say the number of downloads I received was underwhelming is an understatement. Sure, I did OK and ended up ranking in the top 50 FREE for the categories of Dark Fantasy a...

The Reason…

EmeraldDragun Studios:

Thanks for the mention, JP. This truly is a passion for me and if it wasn’t I would have quit a long time ago. It is very hard at times to find writing time, even for thirty minutes. But my drive to make a living at this is what keeps me going. I don’t expect to make “6 figures” a month, but enough to cut out the day job would be nice. Still, whether your book is getting 12 downloads or 1200, stick with it. You will find that sweet spot that makes this all worth it.

What I Learned (and I am still learning) About Self-Publishing Part 1

Blog integration is coming…

I have been eyeball deep in finalizing, formatting, and marketing my new book release these past few weeks. Of course I want it to be perfect so I am being meticulous about everything and getting it edited by a great editor. So as the release date closes in (June 13) I wanted to share a few things I have learned over the course of this process. Anyone looking to publish on Kindle, or even the others such as B&N and KOBO should pay attention. What I have to say about...

Hello Dear Readers! It’s An Update!

Cover2It’s been several months since my last post here. I can explain, really :)

I have been hard at work writing fiction. Along with the work that my classes at Full Sail University is tasking me with, I have been editing and rewriting my novel, The Blood of Altlock. I am proud to say that it will be released in serial format on June 13, 2014. For more information on this please check out my website here.

But The Blood of Altlock isn’t the only project that I have had on my plate. I have a 15,000+ w...
