Whitechapel Rhapsody reviewed by Angela Yuriko Smith
'Whitechapel Rhapsody' reviewed by Bram Stoker Award Nominee Angela Yuriko Smith.Excerpt from the review: (...) Whitechapel Rhapsody is everything I’ve come to love about Manzetti and more. (...) For those willing to look behind the curtain they will see more than the horrific true life tale of a monster. They will also see the horror that occurs in a place where life is not sacred and has no dignity, and the only god is made of copper coins.

New Book Release in English: NARAKA (Hardcover Limited Edition)
Released today, by Necro Publications, the hardcover, limited and signed edition of my novel NARAKA. Cover art by Wendy Saber Core, interior illustrations by Stefano Cardoselli. The book is sold out.You can find the trade paperback edition (and Kindle) of the book at Amazon.
Synopsis: A S/F Horror novel by Two-time Bram Stoker Award winning author Alessandro Manzetti.Welcome to New Belmarsh Penitentiary, a space farm of human meat, where Slicers dispatch fleeing captives and organs are mechanically excised from the flesh and kept alive. Torture and death in a thousand variations await the dying and the damned. After the impact of radioactive, disease-bringing meteorite Uxor77 (presenting a new Year 0), a slow but unrelenting apocalypse is triggered. Earth is poisoned, agriculture compromised. In an already over-exploited environment, this leads to a global food crisis. Only the rich can afford what little vegetables and meat remain clean. Cannibalism is just around the corner. In the year 41 post-Uxor, countries like New France are heavily militarized and entire districts out of control, such as South Paris 5, governed by the criminal boss Big Blue, an “artist” who collects sadistic human installations. The wealthy dine at illegal cannibalistic restaurants like Le Sphinx Tatoué, where they can have sadistic sex and unorthodox meals with “disposable” prostitutes, while mutated rats compete with human wretches on the streets for scraps of food. New Moon Corporation is making a profit out of this mess, experimenting with new drugs and breeding humans to produce meat for the rich. To this end, NARAKA, aka New Belmarsh Penitentiary, is built on the Moon, a way to control the spreading criminality by removing from the planet the worst scum of Earth. This includes Kiki Léger, former South Paris 5 prostitute turned professional assassin. In Naraka, inmates are slaughtered, packaged, and delivered to Earth in cans, while a lunatic pedophile priest makes up a new heretic religion. Even worse things happen in the lower layers of the underground, hive-like structure …
“I am unable to think of a more original novel in any genre. Each paragraph is a delectable new treat in what you should think of as a diabolical Whitman’s Sampler from Hell. I’ve never taken LSD and now I don’t have to; after finishing NARAKA, its hideous, chimeral imagery raced ceaseless Tartarean circles in my brain, like a spew of appalling living things, and I was helpless to stop it. This book is a must-read for fans of any type of heavy-weight non-mainstream fiction, an unparalleled literary carpet-bombing that will warp your mind for some time to come.”

Praise for Whitechapel Rhapsody
"Alessandro Manzetti’s “Whitechapel Rhapsody” is a red trance of divine and malefic beauty. His poems, brilliant with imagery and nightmare, are exquisite traumas beguiling the five senses. Depravity was never so lyrical, its dread so ravishing."—Richard Christian Matheson, author of 'Zoopraxis' and 'Scars'
“Manzetti gives exquisite voice, not just to the devil in a top hat, but also to the streets where sin thrives within greedy and lustful inhabitants. In this master poet’s hands, red becomes a revealing refrain for false healers, ink for letters and framing for the maddening dissections of each victim, named in their own poem, along with the fated address. Cardoselli’s haunting art spotlights the murdered/er’s shadows.”
—Linda D. Addison, multi-award winning author of “How to Recognize a Demon Has Become Your Friend” and HWA Lifetime Achievement Award recipient.
"Surreal, potent, incisive, inventive, intelligent, brutal, and literally bloody good poetry from one of today’s leading dark poets. The Ripper’s world and his mania come alive in these pages. Jack is definitely back!"
—Bruce Boston, Multiple time Bram Stoker Award-winning author of 'Dark Matters' and 'Artifacts'.
"Gritty, sensuous and powerfully visceral, in WHITECHAPEL RHAPSODY, acclaimed author of dark poetry Alessandro Manzetti leads the reader on a nightmare journey through the Ripper’s hunting grounds, the impoverished, crime-ridden slums of London’s East End. In these labyrinthine alleyways — the fetid tenements and reeking brothels where 'Madam Syphilis walks on tiptoe' — there are a hundred wretched ways to die, but none more grisly than bleeding out beneath the Ripper’s blade.
In many of the poems, Manzetti explores the desperate circumstances of the streetwalkers who fell victim to Jack’s implacable razor, those whose 'only friends are alleys, the Thames, and its rats with human thoughts.' In others he adopts the point of view of the madman, who gifts an investigator from the Whitechapel Vigilance Committee with the kidney of a butchered prostitute, daring him to 'bring it close to your ear, like a shell and you can feel the sea of Hell.'
Surely the ‘sea of Hell' in which the Ripper acted out his erotic mania was never rendered with such seductive horror as Manzetti’s richly lyrical and boldly graphic poetry."
—Lucy Taylor, Bram Stoker Award-winning author of 'The Safety of Unknown Cities' and 'Spree and Other Stories'
"Whitechapel Rhapsody is an assault on the five senses, transporting readers back in time to London’s seedy East End. Alessandro Manzetti creates horrific images drenched in blood using masterfully crafted prose and perfect timing. You can feel the dampness of the night, smell the sweat, decay, and death, and hear the footsteps of the legendary Jack the Ripper on the cobblestone streets behind you. This book will have you sleeping with the lights on. A must for every lover of dark poetry."
‒Owl Goingback, Bram Stoker Award-winning author of 'Crota' and 'Coyote Rage'
“A brutal ripper of a collection from multi-award-winning poet Alessandro Manzetti, a ‘master of bones and knives’, whose poems are ‘pustules of morbid memories’ both as ‘fast as razors and slow as cancer’. Whitechapel Rhapsody will eviscerate you.”
‒ Lee Murray, three-time Bram Stoker Award®-nominee, and author of 'Grotesque: Monster Stories'
