Lizzie's Tale Free for 2 days

As part of my book launch of this book I have this updated ebook version of Lizzie's Tale free on Amazon for 2 days - starting Saturday 19th and finishing Sunday 20th August.

The book launch then follows at the Canberra Writers Festival National Library at 10 am on Sunday 27th August. I would love to see any Australian reader there but if you can't make it download an ebook copy to share in the event.
See link to event:

Even better write a review and pass this on to friends. I will also be doing a couple events for this book in Sydney in September and would love any Sydney readers to come along.

Free dark ebook series

Free box set of my Australian Outback Noir Series for the next two days on Smashwords at https://www.smashwords.com/books/view...

I would particularly love to get more Aussie readers of these books so feel free to share this post with other networks.

To date this series has done very well in US with more than 20,000 downloads however I have very few Australian readers.

So I really encourage you to download it for free and start reading - 5 books in one package should keep people going for a bit.
Also see Goodreads link to book

Smashwords Summer Winter Sale coming

For those of you who like free or discounted ebooks, Smashwords month long sale starts soon and runs for the month of July. It is a time when I stock up on books I want to read at bargain prices. Most of my books will be listed there at discounted rates too.

My suggestion is to use it as a way to discover a couple new authors in your favourite genre/s by searching within the Sub Categories - for example if you, like me, like Australian authors then begin with
Fiction>Literary Collections>Australia and dig into the various sub categories e.g mystery and suspense, romance or whatever takes your interest. It is amazing what you can find!

The Value of Readers

As an author I love readers. They are the people who bring appreciation to my work and whose pleasure is the most important motivation to my writing.
However I often hear other authors bemoan there is no money to be made from writing, that free and discounted books are spoiling it for everyone, and that there is something wrong in not buying the books you read at a reasonable price.
While I would love everyone to pay a top price for my work this idea sort of misses the point.
It does not value the time the reader puts in of their own. If a reader chooses to read one of my 70,000 word novels they are likely to invest at least 10 hours of time, that they have chosen to spend on this, not something else. Sure I hope they enjoy the use of this time, but this is secondary.
If I choose to spend ten hours of my time doing something that ten hours has a real value - I could use it to work on something else that has a value, I could do a paid job, I could make a piece of furniture or do a painting I love, I could go and see a movie.
So, even if I only value my time at ten dollars an hour then this time is worth at least $100. I can buy a lot of other things for $100.
So the idea that reading my free book comes at no cost is just silly - in fact a reader would spends many hundreds if not thousands of dollars reading all the words in the books I have written.
I know because this is what it costs for me to pay an editor to read them.
Of course I would love for all my readers to pay me to read my books say $5,00 per book. But even if they don't I think I am a clear winner, i have got them to expend hundreds of dollars worth of their valuable time in reading my words, and often they then encourage others to do the same multiplying the value.
So even if I have ten thousand free downloads of a book, (which some of my better selling books have managed) I think I am a winner - that's a million dollars of other peoples time spent on reading something by me.
If I could monetise just 1% that is a useful amount - it would let me pay more struggling people in the industry for their services.
Of course I am a lucky one. I have a well paid job outside of writing and hence don't really need the little part of my income that book sales contribute, welcome though it is.
But even if I got nothing other than the pleasure of satisfied readers I still think I wold be a clear winner. At least that's what I tell myself every time I wish I got paid more for my books!!
Happy reading and thank you to all my long suffering and loyal readers!!!

Free ebooks

For those (more than 2000) who have put my books on your to read lists in the last month I just wanted to let you know if you are ebook readers that my memoir and first books in series are free on most ebook sites (e.g Amazon, Kobo, Barnes and Noble, iBooks etc)

Making sense of my books

For those who are following my books I just wanted to let you know that the first of the books in each of my series 'Crocodile Spirit Dreaming' and 'Old Balmain House' are currently free with most major ebook retailers - eg Smashwords, iBooks, Kobo and Amazon.

So if you are looking for some authentic Australian stories (that is what I write) I would encourage you to download a free ebook copy.

While I am happy for you to get them anywhere my own preference is to get ebooks from Smashwords as they give the best return to authors. The link to my books on Smashwords is
https://www.smashwords.com/profile/vi...

And I would really love to hear your comments or suggestions for improvement as I am steadily revising these books and it helps improve the enjoyment of other readers

Regards

Graham Wilson
