Tanya writes both fiction and non-fiction, often choosing topics related to science, pop culture, or social history—or a combination of the three. She enjoys combining factual research with intriguing narratives, or the life stories of interesting folks.

In her spare time, Tanya likes to run, bake, and read. Her favourite meal is breakfast, her favourite color is blue, and her favourite children’s book is A Wrinkle in Time.

Tanya grew up in Creston, B.C., and now lives in Vancouver with her husband, who claims to be the world's only Burmese occupational therapist. She balances writing time with parenthood, caring for her daughter Julia and her son Matthew.

Hi Kayla!

Thank you for your message. I’m glad you liked My Time as Caz Hazard!

I have a busy few weeks ahead, so I’m not going to be able to answer all of your questions in depth. But you can find much of this information on the Facts page of my website, here: http://www.tanyalloydkyi.com/?page_id....

My Dad is a born storyteller. He always has a crowd gathered around him at family BBQs or picnics, while he tells some tale from his logging days or his misspent youth. I learned the basics of a good story from him -- an interesting character with an unusual problem. Those are the two things I always look for when searching for good stories.

My favourite of my books is WHEN THE WORST HAPPENS, which is a collection of survival stories. I'm a bit of a paranoid person in general -- after writing that book, I feel a little more prepared for emergencies.

Hope that helps, and best of luck with your project!

Forest of Reading Season!

I’m so excited to have This Is Your Brain on Stereotypes included on the 2022 Yellow Cedar list. The Ontario Library Association does such an amazing job of this reader’s choice award. Having a book on this list means that thousands (!!) of kids are reading it, thinking about it, and weighing it against a ridiculously strong list of contenders.

It also means I get to virtually visit classrooms. Ove
