1967 Lotus Elan; early Spring, Brooklin, Maine.

When I was in the seventh grade, at Lower Canada College, in Montreal, a guy in the twelfth grade drove one of these to school every day. Same colour, too--that British racing green.

Organic Coast '55 Chevrolet Apache, Carpinteria California

The organic coast started in Venice Beach, ended in Vancouver BC. Basically the route the Geeen Tortoise buses used to follow. Stops in Berkeley, Santa Cruz, Eugene, Portland, Seattle, Bellingham. Looks like this truck has been down that road.

Blue Day, Downeast Maine

That springtime blue sky was a knockout when we drove up to our Peninsula a couple days back. Where does "Downeast" Maine start? That is a matter of dispute, but I would say that once you cross the Penobscot River (and the new Penobscot Narrows bridge is a striking, modern beauty) you are Downeast. From Bucksport to Eastport = Downeast.
Belfast isn't quite Downeast but it's an interesting town. Most of downtown is red brick from the 1880s-- and showing lots of life these days. There's a new boatyard in town--The Front Street Shipyard ; a wonderful independent bookstore--The Left Bank; and a great cafe, bakery and art gallery called Chase's Daily, an outstanding exception to the rule that restaurant art=bad art. Shows at Chase's are always carefully curated and intriguing. Paul Oberst is up right now.
A couple miles up the road, in Searsort, this hardworking blue Chevrolet Custom Deluxe 20 caught our eye. There's one up on ebay.

International R 210

After all the California cream puffs, it's time for some Maine vernacular. Today H & I drove up to our home Downeast for the first time in 8 months. Beautiful clear April day, and the first time this year the thermometer has hit 60F. Anybody want an IH dumptruck? Needs work. Good gestalt.

1950 Cadillac. Carpinteria, California

Caught the Caddy at Bob's Garage in Caprinteria. Bob must be a carburetor guy. Always a herd of notable cars and trucks around his shop.

The 1940 Chevrolet Woody

Whenever we're in Santa Barbara County we're looking out for woodies. Like the 1936 Ford we caught in the lot at Loreto Plaza, on Upper State. Or the 1937 Ford and the 1932 Ford that both live on our peninsula in Maine. Our favorite this year was this 1940 Chevrolet. H & I had just had breakfast at Esau's in Carpinteria on a foggy grey Sunday morning. We were walking to the beach when this machine rolled by, with a bunch of kids and surfboards aboard. Great to catch a woody in its natural environment. You see them every now and then here in Maine, but only in summah.
