Jennifer Uhlarik discovered the western genre as a pre-teen, when she swiped the only “horse” book she found on her older brother’s bookshelf. A new love was born. Across the next ten years, she devoured Louis L’Amour westerns and fell in love with the genre. In college at the University of Tampa, she began penning her own story of the Old West. Armed with a B.A. in writing, she has won five writing competitions and finaled in two other competitions. In addition to writing, she has held jobs as a private business owner, a schoolteacher, a marketing director, and her favorite—a full-time homemaker. Jennifer is active in American Christian Fiction Writers and lifetime member of the Florida Writers Association. She lives near Tampa, Florida, w ...more

This would include reading books on how to write, going to writing conferences if you're able, join a critique group and get feedback from other authors on your work, and enter your writing in contests that offers feedback from the judges. Take all of those things you learn and apply them to your writing. Hone your craft until your writing sings. (This process can take years and lots of hard work, so don't rush it). The second part is: NEVER GIVE UP! The writing business is an achingly slow industry. Most every writer I know says that it took far longer than they ever dreamed to get that first contract or the first big break, so to make it as an author, one has to push on even when it feels like the waiting will kill you. And when the waiting drags on, go back to the first part of the answer. Study more, enter more contests, pen another story. Keep practicing and try not to focus on how long it's taking. More often than not, the breaks will come if you work hard and persevere. (less)

"I loved three of the stories and disliked two, the other four I didn't read as they weren't my cup of tea, I personally don't have interest in stories where they've been married before so my rating is 4 or 5 stars for the ones I liked and a 2 for the" Read more of this review »

“Reese sucked in a breath and played faster, hurling the anger through his fingers until it spun all his
fear, all his rage, into the gentle voice of music.”
Willowy Whisper, This Hostile Land

“Audrey let out a breath, turned the truck around, and didn’t look back—except once. A famous movie star was waving her goodbye.”
Willowy Whisper, Angel Gate

“She was beautiful, but not like those girls in magazines. She was beautiful, for the way she thought. She was beautiful, for the sparkle in her eyes when she talked about something she loved. She was beautiful, for her ability to make other people smile, even if she was sad. No, she wasn't beautiful for something as temporary as her looks. She was beautiful, deep down to her soul. She is beautiful.”
Natalie Newman, Butterflies and Bullshit
