Does doing a good thing sometimes mean being evil? [Flash Fiction]
It’s been a long time since I’ve posted flash fiction, but when I saw the prompt from Chuck Wendig for this week, I couldn’t resist.
This one is in the speculative vein of my next book, Banquet, but is a lot less space opera than the book. Chuck wanted us to use either of these themes:
1. Doing a good thing sometimes means being evil.
2. The road to Hell is paved with good intentions.
I hope I managed to hit at least one of them with this short tale.

Grieving mother seeks solace, finds a mystery that turns into pure horror in By the Dark of Her Eyes. [Book Review]
I’m one of those readers who likes a lot of different genres, so when I find two of my favorites smashed into one book, I nearly always have to take a peek at the story. That’s what happened with the book I’m reviewing today. I saw it was horror… then realized it was lesbian fiction, as well, and knew it was a story I needed in my life.
Ghosts, trauma, and a sexy lesbian contractor? Count me in! I went into this book looking for a great mix of two genres, and I was not disappointed.

I think I’m being followed…

Or, at least, I hope I will be soon.
Here’s the deal:
When I switched from wordpress.com to wordpres.org, things got a little crazy. No one could follow my blog to get automatic updates on when I posted. And that sucked.

I tinkered with code, tried plugins, raged, cried, and generally made a pest of myself until I finally came across the Jetpack plugin.
Now, when you leave a comment on one of my posts, you have the option to click a little checkbox to be subscribed to new post notifications...

Romance and mystery with indie authors and the “First Day, First Paragraph” tag
A friend of mine tagged me last month to play a blog game he created. I wasn’t sure if I would participate; I don’t always, especially when I’m already feeling overwhelmed with work and other responsibilities. But this time I actually have something to offer in the form of a sneak peak into the sequel to The Setup.
Here are the rules of the tag:
Publish your own post on the first day of the month. Use the graphic above. Thank and link back to the person who tagged you. Explain the rules lik...February 28, 2017
A complicated routine isn’t the hardest thing these two will learn. [Book Review]
I love looking through the selection of books Netgalley offers. There are so many intriguing descriptions, covers, and titles in all genres, and I often request more than one (sometimes four or five) at a time based on those.
Today’s book is one that immediately caught my attention. Anyone who follows my blog regularly knows I love a good LGBTQIA/SAGA book, and this one did not fail to please.
While on holiday in Toronto, Evie Whitmore planned to sight-see and meet other ase...

Genre fiction, stalking, and vampires to kill (not kiss) with Heidi Angell
Common advice says that, as authors, we should choose a genre and be wedded to it as we would a spouse – ’til death do we part. It says that switching genres is a futile exercise that hurts sales and confuses readers. After all, readers aren’t smart enough to see the difference between a YA book and a creature feature until they’ve already bought it… right?
PFFFFTT.
I disagree. Readers are made of smarter stuff. That’s why I love when a writer dips their toe in many different genre pools, or...

Really? You’re writing Sci-Fi now?!
Last NaNoWriMo, I took on two challenges. I challenged myself to finish a manuscript in November, and my writing group challenged each other to write a book set in space.
What came out of that glorious duality was my first science fiction book, Banquet (Lesbians in Space, #1).

I didn’t technically win NaNoWriMo with just this book, because it came in at about 40,000 words, but I consider it a smash...

There’s more stirring in the ‘Glades than pythons and manatees… [Book Review]
Mystery, romance, animals, and a great setting – what’s not to love?
Last year, I went to the Lone Star Lesfic Festival in Austin, Texas to rub elbows with some of the greats of lesbian fiction. While I was there, I met a lot of authors whose books I had loved in the past, but I also met some whose work I had never read before.
Renee MacKenzie is one of the latter. I won her book, Anywhere, Everywhere, in a drawing, along with an awesome t-shirt that I wear to the gym. (Reppin’ lesfic while w...
