First Kiss Friday with guest Caroline Warfield
Welcome to another First Kiss Friday with my guest Caroline Warfield. Roses in Picardy, Caroline’s contribution to the Bluestocking Belles’ anthology Never Too Late, includes this lovely kiss. Happy reading and enjoy!
Excerpt:
She relaxed, her joy unfolding like a flower in front of him, and his heart opened wide to let her in. They sat in perfect contentment, listening to the little boy’s chatter.
Harry reached over a while later and touched the Bible. “You were reading?” he asked.
“In English? No. We look at pictures, and I tell him the stories.”
“My grandmother insisted I bring it. I’m glad she did.”
Memories of another kitchen, a bigger one with a overflowing larder and the smell of cinnamon and nutmeg emanating from the oven, filled him. The farm in Saskatchewan had always been a place of safety and peace to him, far from his father’s house in Calgary where there were rules to keep and standards to be measured by.
I’ll take Rosemarie and Marcel there some day. Grandma will like that. The thought came unbidden, but it lodged itself deep within him. He shook his head to clear it.
“Shall we tell stories?” he asked.
Rosemarie pulled Marcel into her lap and pointed to a picture of angels. She began to tell the story of the shepherds, and Harry realized he had interrupted it with his arrival. Her soft voice burrowed deep in his soul, places that hadn’t been reached in many years.
Marcel fell asleep to the sound of his mother’s voice, as boys inevitably do.
“Let me put him to bed,” she murmured. “I’ll be but a moment.”
Harry pulled the Bible over. Most of the pages were warped from water damage, and some were stained from the mud, but it felt familiar all the same. It never failed to fill him with thoughts of home. I will take them there.
Foolish that. You don’t know what tomorrow will bring, or when this war will end.
Rosemarie came down shortly, looking as flustered as she had when she found him at her door. “He’s asleep,” she said as if he didn’t know it.
“Rosemarie, may I stay tonight?” His gaze never left hers.
She put up both hands as if to defend herself and blushed.
Before she could speak, he rushed on. “I mean no disrespect. I will sleep on the floor by the stove. Soldiers are used to sleeping rough.”
Her body relaxed, and she blinked.
He continued, “I rented my own boat this time. I can leave, but it’s dark, and I—” He sighed. “I really want to spend Christmas here.”
She stepped closer then. “I want it, too,” she whispered.
Her face was inches from his. She reached up a hand to push back his hair. He leaned in to smell her scent, all roses and woman.
Before he could close the distance for a kiss, she put a hand on his chest. “You will sleep on the floor. By the stove,” she said tartly, one brow raised.
“Yes, ma’am,” he said, smiling.
He took her mouth gently. At her eager response, passion flared, and his kiss deepened before moving to her neck and the warm spot under her ear. The sound of her moan almost undid him.
An urge to ask her to marry him almost drove him to foolish declarations. Not now. Not yet. But someday. When all this is over, I will take her home. Let tomorrow bring what it brings.
For now, this kiss would have to be enough. He lifted her, carried her to her rocker, enfolding her in his arms, and began to kiss her in earnest.
About the Story
1916
After two years at the mercy of the Canadian Expeditionary force and the German war machine, Harry is out of metaphors for death, synonyms for brown, and images of darkness. When he encounters color among the floating islands of Amiens and life in the form a widow and her little son, hope ensnares him.
Rosemarie Legrand’s husband left her a tiny son, no money, and a savaged reputation when he died. She struggles to simply feed the boy and has little to offer a lonely sold

First Kiss Friday with guest Amy Quinton
Welcome, my lovelies, to another First Kiss Friday with my guest, Amy Quinton. Today Amy has an excerpt from her novel, What The Scot Hears. Isn’t this cover gorgeous? You might want to get out a fan… you’re going to love everything about this excerpt! Happy reading and enjoy!
Excerpt:
His hand, just there before her, was large—oh, so much bigger than her own—and rough; the hands of a man who had seen plenty of hard work in his life.
She inhaled in steady, measured breaths, desperate to slow her racing pulse. What she got for her efforts was the complex scent of his very essence, the subtle hint of which sprang from his palm like a smoking candle.
His was an intricate aroma made up of the smell of leather from his gloves and a distinctive scent she’d come to associate specifically with MacLeod, an earthy note that brought to mind the trees in the forest and the soil beneath her feet—a clean and practical scent.
His skin was hot, so much warmer than hers; she could feel the heat emanating from him as she drew his hand near. She had the almost irresistible urge to cradle her cheek in his palm and soothe her wind-chapped cheeks there.
Then, there were his fingers; they were long and broad and strong, so capable of work, of strength, of pleasure…
She glanced up into his eyes, as she bent to touch her lips to his palm, determined to see to the task she’d fought so hard to perform.
She was taken aback by what she saw there. His pupils were dilated and sharp with desire. He had zeroed in on her mouth as if she wielded a veritable weapon.
Regardless of the obvious danger, she ignored all the signs she should stop. Instead, she carried on, inching his palm ever closer to her mouth.
He hissed in a quick breath the moment her lips touched his scorching hot skin and her heart jumped in time with the sound.
She closed her eyes then, suddenly unable to do what she needed to do. She was completely overwhelmed by the surge of emotion that flooded her, sensations she’d never, ever felt before with such intensity. She felt weightless and dizzy and warm all over. She squeezed her thighs together, for she tingled and ached in the very heart of her womanly center.
She couldn’t stop. She wanted more, so much more.
She touched her tongue to the center of his palm, no longer thinking of snake bites and poison, no longer thinking of anything but him and his skin and his touch.
MacLeod let out an unmistakable warning, “Mel…”
Amelia looked up and was taken aback by the portent in his blazing green eyes. He looked raw. He looked hungry. He looked determined. The emotions swirling in his gaze were almost frightening in their intensity.
Yet she touched her tongue to his palm again anyway proving she wasn’t afraid of his fire.
That was the final straw; like the snap of a leather strap pulled too taut, he growled one last time like the beast he was before he ripped his hand free and grabbed a hold of her, his lips descending to hers with unerring accuracy.
Oh, sweet God!
He demanded. He conquered. He assaulted every one of her senses.
His lips were soft, yet commanding and fierce. He reached in for a hard kiss, then pulled back. He turned his head and charged in again, then pulled back once more. Their kiss was a dance and a tease and a force all in one.
He paused in his assault and pleaded, “Oh God, Mel…open up for me, lass.”
And when she did, his lips and tongue plunged inside, invading her soul.
Right then and there, he claimed her. All of her.

England 1814: Reticent Scottish Lord pursues Mouthy, Independent, American Woman… She is an outspoken American orphan with a questionable past and a dubious purpose. He is a man of few words on the lookout for a traitor. How could they NOT get along?
Mrs. Amelia Chase is a highly-opinionated, 23-year-old woman from America on the run from her past with a penchant for self-preservation and a healthy love for Shakespearean insults. Much to a certain Scotsman’s dismay:
She isn’t:
Quiet—not with her tendency to talk to everyone about anything…
Demure—highly overrated if one cannot wear red and show off one’s curves…
Equine-savvy—she once fled some currish, toad-spotted, coxcombs—er, villains—in a stolen carriage at a pace slower than a meandering walk. Oh, and mistook a common mule for a thoroughbred. But other than that…
And she is:
Brave—Smart, Loyal, Witty. Er, charming. Plus, Modest, Lonely, Secretive—Um, forget that last part…
And In love—with a distrustful Highlander of all things…
Lord Alaistair MacLeod is an agent for the Crown and a man with secrets. He doesn’t speak of them, he doesn’t dwell on them, and he certainly doesn’t let them define his future. Much. One thing is for certain, he definitely doesn’t share his confidences with a peery, outspoken American woman who is obviously trouble, acts highly suspicious, and is far too nosy for her own good… No matter:
He is always:
Focused—men who cannot stay to task are foolish…
Pointed and Reserved—enough said…
And he isn’t:
Cheeky—like a certain American firebrand…
Led by his… ahem…even when following on the heels of a curvy, red-wearing… ahem
Or In love… especially not with a Troublesome, Meddlesome, so-called Independent American Woman…
Can he trust enough to embrace such an enigmatic woman? Can she awaken the passions of such an intensely private man?

First Kiss Friday with guest Elizabeth Ellen Carter
Today on First Kiss Friday I’d like to welcome back Elizabeth Ellen Carter who will be sharing an excerpt from Revenge of the Corsairs. Happy reading and enjoy!
Excerpt:
And suddenly they were just a hand’s span apart. He watched Laura take one of his hands in hers. Why had he never noticed the difference between a man’s hands and a woman’s? His fingers were long and tapered – one of things which made playing guitar easy for him, but Laura’s were more slender still. Then there was the color. His were tanned golden with the sun, but hers were like blush marble.
He remained mesmerized as she placed his hand on her belly, gently pressing until his hands spread over where the baby lay. He felt a movement and let out a gasp when what felt what appeared to be a tiny foot pressed into the palm of his hand.
There was a sentimental side of him – one he suspected he inherited from his own father – that wanted cry out at the miracle he’d been permitted to experience that moment. But instead, he swallowed and looked into Laura’s eyes. Their forget-me-not blue warmed him from within.
“He has been restless all evening. No matter what I do, I can’t get comfortable, but he settled as soon as he heard your voice. Say something, Elias.”
“I love you, Laura.”
He saw her eyes widen at the words then his mouth descended to hers. He thought the kiss would be brief, a light caress, but, as soon as his lips touched hers and felt their soft texture, it deepened. He felt Laura’s mouth open under his. Instinct born from years of longing guided where his experience lacked.
Their first kiss was everything he imagined it to be. The tentative touch of her tongue on his sent a jolt through him. He mirrored her action and was rewarded by a sigh that redoubled his own pleasure.
Eventually, it was he who stopped. He stroked one of Laura’s flushed cheeks; they were, indeed, as hot as their color indicated. But it was the look of surprise on her face that warmed him. No fear, no regret – perhaps no love yet, but he was a patient man.

Rescued after two years a concubine in an Ottoman harem, former debutante Laura Cappleman faces a difficult journey back to normal life. As she travels to Palermo aboard Kit Hardacre’s ship, the Calliope, she is deeply traumatised – and pregnant to her kidnapper.
Laura rejects the emotional support of her long-time admirer, Calliope First Officer Elias Nash, and her cousin, Sophia, Kit’s wife. She withdraws into herself and her art. Finally, after giving birth, she decides to return to London, hoping to erase the torment of harem life from her mind.
Powerful Emir Selim Omar died on the day of Laura’s rescue, but his wickedness lives on in his third wife, Rabia, in whose household Laura was held. The ruthless widow may yet hold onto the favour and power she wielded as mother to Omar’s only male heir. However, as opportunists pick the Emir’s empire apart, the child is killed.
When Rabia learns Laura has given birth to a boy, the solution is obvious–the concubine is stolen property and so is the child sired by her late husband. She will take the boy and kill anyone in the way.
As Rabia’s assassins close in, Elias – both embraced and rejected by the damaged woman he loves, uncertain she will ever return, and alone in Palermo with a child to whom he has given his name – must take the battle to the enemy. Otherwise, there may be nothing for Laura to come home to.

First Kiss Friday with guest Caroline Warfield
It’s another First Kiss Friday and today I have my friend Caroline Warfield as my guest. Caroline has a new story out entitled Charlotte’s Christmas Vigil that is just in time for the holiday’s. We hope you enjoy this first kiss scene. Happy reading!
Excerpt:
“Don’t get up, Lottie. Are you well?” He raised the candle to see her face better. The purple smudges under her eyes hadn’t abated.
She looked back, puzzled. “Well enough. Why did you come?”
His eyes scanned her, from the glorious hair to the tips of those graceful toes. He tried to remind himself of his professional demeanor, but diagnosis played no part in this scrutiny.
“Salvo?” Lottie asked, her voice thick.
“I’m sorry, Lottie. You should not be embroiled in my family’s crisis.”
She pulled her gown down to cover herself. He suspected she blushed rather in the semi-darkness, but he couldn’t pull his eyes away.
“I don’t mind. It feels good to be needed. Besides, David looks better every day. I have you to thank for that.”
His feet moved into the room before he could tell them to stop.
She frowned at him. “You look exhausted. You can’t care for patients all day and stay up all night. Let me take over with the boys.” She rose. “You get to your bed.”
He had her in his arms before either could take another breath.
“Thank you,” he breathed against her mouth, just before he kissed her.
Lottie pulled back and gasped. He would have pulled back then, but a second later, she moved closer and pressed her mouth to his. He tasted her gently, but didn’t probe. He cupped her face, so he would not pull her up against his arousal, though he yearned to pull her close. He kissed her eyes and down her cheek before setting her away from him.
Lottie raised trembling fingers to her mouth. “Salvo?”
About the Book
Venice 1818
Lady Charlotte clings to one dream—to see the splendor of Rome before settling for life as the spinster sister of an earl. But now her feckless brother attempts to imitate his idol, Byron, by swimming the Grand Canal, falls ill, and forces her to wait again, stranded in Venice halfway to the place of her dreams. She finds the city damp, moldy, and riddled with disease.
As a physician, Salvatore Caresini well knows the danger of putrid fever. He lost his young wife to it, leaving him alone to care for their rambunctious children. He isn’t about to let the lovely English lady risk her life nursing her brother.
But Christmas is coming, that season of miracles, and with it, perhaps, lessons for two lonely people: that love heals the deepest wounds and sometimes the deepest dreams aren’t what we expect.

Riorden de Deveraux travels to Bamburgh answering the summons of King Henry II knowing his past life is about to catch up with him. Centuries are keeping them apart until Time gives them a chance at finding love. But there are obstacles threatening the fragile bit of hope that Riorden and Katherine can remain together. First Kiss Friday with guest Mary Morgan
It’s always a pleasure when I can bring back my friend Mary Morgan for another First Kiss Friday! Today Mary will be giving you a sneak peak of her soon to be released novella, A Highland Moon Enchantment. Happy reading and enjoy!
[image error] Excerpt:
His mind screamed to stay rooted in his chair, but his body betrayed him. Standing, he reached for her hand. “I will escort ye to your chamber.”
She eyed him with curiosity and stood. “Nae. Take me to the north wall. I hear the view of the loch is one that steals the breath from your lungs.”
“Done.” When her fingers slipped into his, Desmond fought the urge to crush her to his chest.
Placing her soft hand in the crook of his arm, he led her quickly out of the hall and up the stairs. Bending to the left, he took her along a corridor and up a narrow circular pathway. The torches flickered as he approached the door leading to the north wall.
A cold draft blew by them, and she shivered. Instantly, regret filled him realizing he had not considered to bring a cloak for her.
Desmond paused by the door. “Ye should not venture out into the biting cold without a cloak.”
Her eyes narrowed. “I simply wish to capture a quick look, not spend the night sleeping out there.”
Shaking his head, he pushed open the massive oak door. Brittle air slapped at his face while they made their way up along the wall.
“’Tis cold,” she muttered, but chuckled softly and hugged his arm. “But ye are warm.”
“We shall not tarry long,” he assured her and placed a warm hand over hers.
“Oh, sweet Goddess. Look at the moon, Desmond. Her light shimmers over the water. I have now witnessed the charm of the loch in sunlight and moonlight. Though our rivers are stunning on their own, they cannae rival this view. As I have told ye, our island is shrouded in mists, so ye cannae see verra far out into the sea.”
Desmond’s focus was not on the moon, but the beauty standing beside him. To take what he dared not possess. He marveled at her delight of the striking scene.
Ailsa turned toward him. “Thank ye, Desmond, truly.”
Her nearness was overpowering, seducing him in a way he had never known. Desmond cupped her chin. Her eyes widened, and her lips parted in invitation. Moonlight and lust danced within her eyes. No longer did he battle with his mind and body, and he slowly lowered his head.
And under the silent whisper of a full moon, Desmond captured her soft lips within his own. He
could taste her sweetness mixed with the wine, and desire shot through his veins. His hands shook as he placed them securely on her waist. As he deepened the kiss, she placed her hands around his neck. Desmond groaned, crushing her body against him.

ORDER OF THE DRAGON KNIGHTS
Dare to journey with the Dragon Knights of Scotland!
They were an ancient order descended from the great Tuatha De Danann, a tribe from the Goddess Danu. Half human and half fae, each blessed with mystical powers. They were also given holy relics and guardianship over the dragons.
With the dawn of Christianity, the dragons were systematically hunted down and slain leaving only one. The Dragon Knights took her from Ireland to a land across the sea, settling in the Great Glen near Urquhart. The clan was known as the MacKay clan, descendants from the MacAoidh.
Yet, there were those who deemed the Order had too much power, and they tried to possess it for themselves. They were evil and twisted, and their plan succeeded one fateful night. A battle was fought and their sister was killed.
The Clan Mackay is no longer.
The Dragon Knights scattered across the land.
Yet out of the darkness, they will each fight for redemption.

It is my hope that you’ve enjoyed this theme and getting to know the writing of some incredible medieval authors. Thanks to all who participated and the winner will be announced soon.
So, without further ado, I bring you my excerpt from FOR ALL OF EVER. Remember to leave me a comment here on my blog so you can up your chances at our giveaway. I hope you enjoy this excerpt as much as I had writing it. Happy reading!
Excerpt:
“I know not what you speak of, damsel. I wish you no ill will, but I cannot in all good conscience help you save your soul. Only God can forgive you of your sins whilst you were here on earth. You must atone for your sins to Him.”
“You don’t understand…” the ghost began, but Riorden held up his hand to halt any further words.
“Aye, you have that aright. I do not understand any of the past two days, nor do I wish to. I just want my life to return to the hellish circumstances put afore me of late that I must needs attend to. Those, I can comprehend and deal with, but not this…this absurdity with visions of ghosts, playing tricks inside my head. I say this to you again…be gone fair maiden, and may you rest in peace!”
She nodded her head, as if she finally understood his words to leave him be. But ’twas the tears coursing down her cheeks and the look of grief in her eyes that made him realize he had erred in not trying further to help her cause. He took a step forwards, but ’twas too late to offer her what solace he might afford her. He could already feel her slipping from his side.
She slowly backed away from him. “Oh God… I don’t even know your name,” she sobbed across his mind, and was gone.
“Katherine!” Riorden rasped out, for he felt an unfamiliar loneliness creep upon him as she vanished, yet again, afore his eyes. For one brief instant, when he had watched her crying, he had felt a connection to another he never thought would find him again. Her disappearance left him feeling bereft and out of sorts. Confused with his inner thoughts, he could only stand there in a daze. At least, he could tell himself he knew her name. Merde… what had he done?
Blurb:
Sometimes to find your future, you must look to the past…
Katherine Wakefield has dreamed and written of her knight in shining armor all her life. Never finding a man to measure up to the one of her imagination, she and her three closest friends take a dream vacation to England. Yet, strange things begin happening while visiting Bamburgh Castle, but how could they have known they’d find themselves thrown back more than eight hundred years into the past?
Riorden de Deveraux travels to Bamburgh answering the summons of King Henry II knowing his past life is about to catch up with him. But nothing prepares him for the beautiful vision of a strangely clad ghost who first appears in his chamber, let alone the fact he begins having a conversation with her.
Centuries are keeping them apart until Time gives them a chance at finding love. But there are obstacles threatening the fragile bit of hope that Riorden and Katherine can remain together. Will the past of one consume what their future may hold, or will Time take the decision from them and hurtle Katherine forward to where she truly belongs?
