Morning Pages Entry – May 20, 2014

Well, it’s a little late for this journal today, but at least I’m getting to it. Jennifer and I slept on the boat last night, and woke up to some lousy weather this morning, so we let it chase us away, and ended up at home a little earlier then we thought. So, it’s about 4pm, but we’ll get this done, then get back to work. I do need, to get back to the writing. I just finished reading a post from one of the more sucessful writers on the WritersCafe forum, that goes by the name of Tattooed...

Well, this is fun. For the first time since starting to write morning journals, I get to write one form the cockpit of my boat. It’s the first night we spent on the water, and Jennifer and I stayed over night last night. It was a really cool night. We had just one slot open in the companion way open, and the heater was going full blast. I slept with socks, long pants and a t-shirt, and I was still pretty cool. Oh yea, and the heater was going full blast. We went and socialized a bit with...

So, another idea to include into the novel about the mutations. They could be tied to ‘savants’ or super smart people, like that documentary that you started to watch but fell asleep to last night, about the kid that could did complex mathematical computations in his head, and could recite 22,514 decimal positions of Pi. That could be part of the next mutation. Something, maybe, you haven’t thought of in terms of a plot hole, is, why wouldn’t the human race want these mutations to survive...

So, this morning is one of those mornings, where I don’t have any particular topic in mind. So, perhaps I should practice a little writing. Practicing writing would be a good thing I think, to get your writing of a first draft in a respectable form that doesn’t take forever to edit would be a very good thing. So, perhaps, we should think of a something to write about for the novel. Maybe a little back story about something interesting. The problem is I don’t actually have an outline to wr...

Editing is taking way longer then I wanted it to. I think I only got through maybe 4500 words yesterday. I think, I may be over editing things to the point of completely rewriting every sentence. I have to be careful not to to that. Some sections I’ve written are definitely in need of more edit work then others, but I shouldn’t be going overboard, and just rewriting every sentence I come across as a rule. The idea, is to smooth out the words, and get the ideas across succinctly, without b...

So, the boat is launched and floating, but the window I was hoping to have fixed, still leaks. I guess that spray stuff didn’t do a damn for the window. I’m going to have to pull it out, and reseal it with the stuff I have. Oh well. Should be fun, trying to fix it. So, today I need to get through a bunch of editing. I was hoping to get through more of it the other day, but I only got through about 10K words. I had hoped, to get through 20K words, but maybe that was too much too ask. I thi...

Going to see how quickly I can do this this morning. I have to leave for the boat in 23 minutes or around 6:30, so let’s get this done. Today, is launch day for the boat, and the good news this early, is that the weather looks pretty good for it. That’s nice. I set the alarm for 6am this morning, but the damn birds outside our open bedroom window, decided that 4am was a more appropriate time. I was able to put the off for another hour and fell back to sleep, but when they got me awake at...

Today is about focus. It’s about focusing on the tasks that will move your business forward. It’s about not getting distracted with all the shiny things on the internet. It’s about getting the work done, that needs to get done, that can improve your life, and the lives around you. That’s what your going to work on today. And for today, that means editing the hell out of your novel. It means getting through 20K words today. You can do that, if your focused on the important things. Don’t wo...

It’s time to get things moving again. End of last week, bogged down a bit with going to the boat, and getting distracted with the Ray Bradbury ideas. Yes, I do think it is a good idea to write more. And yes, an additional short story a week would be good. Something that could translate into a bigger novel, when it got to enough words. A short story every week, would retain focus on your writers name, and give people plenty of books to comment on. Plus, it would keep the Amazon marketing m...

I’m having thoughts this morning, about breaking out my current novel, into multiple books. I had thought about it a while ago with going to two seperate books. It’s over 300 pages right now as it stands. It would be pretty nice to have multiple books, and it’s not without precedence to have multiple shorter books do very well. Jeff Olah is doing very well with his “Dead Years” series that are all under 100 pages each. I was thinking, if I went that way, I could release 3 books now, make...
