It wasn't terribly expensive, but it was one of a kind. While the jeweler was working on it, a man came in and asked to use the bathroom. The jeweler escorted him behind the counter. When the man left, the ring was gone.

I've often wondered what happened to that ring. Was it given to someone? Resold for drug money? Where is it now? I also wonder about the history of the ring before I got it. I bought it in an antique store in Oxford, England. Who wore it before I did?

I'm not sure if the story that came out of this would be a mystery or an historical novel, but it might be interesting.(less)

Bandelier National Monument: A Beautiful Walk through History

Last week my hiking buddies and I went to Bandelier NationalMonument, and got not only a beautiful hike, but a lesson in New Mexicohistory.

Bandelier is a 33,677-acre site in Frijoles Canyon. It is nearLos Alamos on the Pajarito Plateau.  Over70% of the 50 square miles of the monument is wilderness, with only 3 miles ofroad and more than 70 miles of hiking trails. The whole area is dotted with ther
