“A story of lust, love and friendship, Designs on You is a well written and paced romance with comedy, sensuality and heart. Its novella length makes it the perfect read for a lazy day and has a happy ending that left me feeling a romance reader’s high. Its strong underlying story of self discovery is as easy to read as chocolate covered cherries are to eat. I loved every moment of Designs on You!”

Influences and inspiration

"There is more than one way to burn a book. And the world is full of people running about with lit matches." — Ray Bradbury

I recently re-read Fahrenheit 451 and realized how much I was influenced by that book. The idea that our free will could be taken from us—and not because the government decided to, but because we allowed them to—it’s terrifying. I love that a book can make me think like that.

The power of the written word is undeniable. When Robin Williams died last week, I saw doze...

Scott’s coffee mug.

I once had a student give me a print out of this when we talked about typography in class. It’s hung in my office ever since.

“You just have to trust that if it’s a story that you’re meant to tell, you’ll figure out how to do it. Some stories are little pocket-size universes that live in our heads—fun to think about, but we never quite figure out how to get inside—and some stories are ones that we can jump right into, like Mary Poppins and the chalk paintings.”

As part of my VBT, I made a stop at Fire and Ice Book Reviews...

This guy's smile just screamed Scott to me. The slightly self-conscious posture, his coloring. But he's missing a few things.

This guy has the unruly hair I imagined Scott having, not to mention the gauges. He's also hard at work retouching photos. ;)

There's very little of Scott here apart from the tattoos, but I imagined Scott with full sleeves. I don't really get into much detail on that in the book, other than to comment that he has tats.

The infamous chair

image

On today’s VBT stop at Long and Short Reviews, I talk about my desk chair. This at-least-40-year-old behemoth of metal and vinyl saw its best days when polyester was the height of fashion.

Books On Silver Wings: Guest Post, Review, Giveaway: Designs on You by Carrie Pack

Books On Silver Wings: Guest Post, Review, Giveaway: Designs on You by Carrie Pack: Designs on You was largely inspired by my experience working as a production artist and graphic designer right out of college. I worked for a national retailer creating print ads, designing signage, and scanning photos. That was in the dark days before digital, folks—we didn’t even have email for the first six months that I worked there.
