Broken Records VBT: Day 3

Hopping back on the virtual tour bus today for several stops!

First up: I shared my book playlist on Prism Book Alliance  and why I chose the songs I did (hint: Because Dolly Parton is the queen and Alt-Country is awesome.)

On the second stop  asked: What makes your story different from the rest?

At the third stop V’s Reads gave it an amazing and really fun review that made me smile before I had coffee this morning, which is quite a feat.

Finally, on Bayou Book Junkie, Grady and Nico took a turn answering questions such as: What are your favorite qualities about your partner?

Grady: He’s so confident, you can see it in the way he dresses and carries himself, the way he speaks and does his job. But it’s not vanity, it’s a gracious certainty, because he wants other people to feel confident, too. When I’m with him I feel like he’s my calm in the face of chaos. My center point. Like he takes all the shattered mixed-up parts of me and puts them back together again so everything makes sense. And I have a huge thing for his ears.

Nico: Sometimes I find his manic optimism to be aggravating, but really I admire it. I know I can be cynical, so to be with someone who is determined to be positive and see the best in people, when he has every reason to see the worst, is really inspiring. Grady just wants to make people happy and to feel like they matter, because he knows how it is to feel unloved and unwanted. The fact that he’s insanely sexy doesn’t hurt.

And don’t forget to enter the giveaway at each stop!

Broken Records VBT Day 2

Don’t forget, every stop is another chance to win an ebook or Interlude Press gift card! Today’s stops:

#1. Tell us about your protagonist. Was there a real life inspiration behind them? I read a lot about celebrity stylists and what it takes to be one, so I used some of that for Nico’s personality: that he’s immensely hard working and generous, but also can be judgmental and cynical—hazards of the business he’s in. Read more at My Fiction Nook

#2: Is there message in your novel that you hope readers grasp? There is the struggle that Nico grapples with in the novel of wanting happiness and fulfillment, and if that’s something you achieve and find, or if it’s a state of mind. Can we find happiness from within, no matter what situation we’re in? That’s the idea I hope readers come away with. Read more at My Reviews and Ramblings

#3 Talk to us about your characters in this book. What makes them unique? What I love about Grady is that he’s been knocked down pretty hard throughout his life and yet he still comes up swinging and smiling. It’s the sort of dedicated optimism only gained through hitting bottom and refusing to stay there. I envy his audacity and his energy. Nico is cool and in control, so it was a lot of fun having him deal with being totally turned around and upside down by hurricane Grady. Read more at All I Want and More Books

#4 Tell us about your cover and how it came about. I can’t really take any credit for the cover, it was all the genius of the art director at Interlude Press, CB Messer, and the cover artist Victoria S. They really managed to perfectly capture Grady and Nico’s story; the lights of the cameras and the beautiful suits, Nico’s hesitancy and Grady’s confidence. It’s perfect. Read more at Havan Fellows

#5 Has a little sneak peek of Burning Tracks, the next book in the Spotlight series. Read it at Nautical Star Books

Please ma’am - I want some more

briarswt:

So, in my opinion, you can always tell a good book by the complex feelings of being satisfied with the story the author has written and wanting more.

Broken Records by Lilah Suzanne is just such a book.

Her language is wonderfully descriptive, and it draws you in to the world she’s creating.  Immediately you’re introduced to Nico Takahashi, stylist to stars, who is a touch world-weary but also really seems to care about his clients, particularly a deliciously jaded former child star.   Just when he seems to be thinking about giving up his career, enter Grady Dawson.  Debonair, sweet, kind, troubled country star Grady Dawson.   And the fun is just about to begin.

I cannot say enough good things about this novel, but the one thing that sticks out clearly in my mind is how delightful her secondary characters are.  I love Nico, don’t get me wrong, but I wanted more of Grady, more of Nico’s business partner, Gwen, and her wife, Flora.  Even Grady’s fellow country singer, Clementine Campbell, is intriguing.

All in all, I put this novel down wanting more.  I’m just thankful that there is more coming.

“TOP PICK! … This excellent take on the celebrity-and-normal-person romance moves at a fast clip while satisfying at every turn.”—RT Book Reviews

He’s letting himself want things he shouldn’t. He knows how this will end: messy, complicated. His own name in the tabloids as just another failed Grady Dawson affair.

Los Angeles-based stylist Nico Takahashi loves his job—or at least, he used to. Feeling fed up and exhausted from the cutthroat, gossip-fueled business of Hollywood, Nico daydreams about packing it all in and leaving for good. So when Grady Dawson—sexy country music star and rumored playboy—asks Nico to style him, Nico is reluctant. But after styling a career-changing photo-shoot, Nico follows Grady to Nashville where he finds it increasingly difficult to resist Grady’s charms. Can Nico make peace with show business and all its trappings, or will Grady’s public persona get in the way of their private attraction to each other?
