Keeping It Real: The Sexy Parts

I know personally that one of my books has a review that says, "I missed the sexy parts." At the same time, I've been slammed for writing insta-love.  Now, my question to you: Does the sex scenes take away from the story? In my opinion, if I've published a book and labeled it "erotica" then yes, I'd be pissed if there's no sexy parts. But if it's in contemporary romance, then it's kind of wide open as to what it'll be. What's a girl supposed to do? If you want sexy parts, there's gotta be chemistry and a quick hook up... or a super long book. But if you don't want insta-love, just insta-whores, then there's no sexy parts.

Keeping It Real: My Sister, My Proofreader

Today is my sister's big 4-0!!! In honor of this monumental occasion, today's post is dedicated to her. Back when I was in high school and college, she was my first (and only) proofreader... and she hated it. Every time she'd finish, she'd have a little fit over my misuse of commas, incorrect spelling (hello settle/seattle), and a slew of other grammatical errors. When she found out I was writing, she cringed... yes, you did, Sha, don't deny it. I believe both you and my hubs said, "Get ready for reviews." Nowadays, I don't impose on her to proofread, although these days my writing is probably much more interesting than the boring papers I had to write for school. So a big thank you, and happy birthday, to my big sister for making sure I know how to use a comma (kinda), can spell check, and who encourages me every day, no matter what I'm doing, and totally understands all my quirks and adult cognizant dyslexia! Love you, Sha Sha!!!!

She looked down and pulled her leg up, then realized she couldn't move that one forward without losing her balance. She put her foot back down and raised the other leg. A smile spread across her face as she continued this beautiful dance with Beth.
They made their way slowly back to the blanket. When they were almost within arm's length of me, Beth twisted around, so she was behind Angel. I stretched out my hands towards Angel, waiting to see if she would make the attempt on her own. So many things happened at once. Beth loosened her grip on Angel, Angel took an unsupported step forward, and Angel spoke her first real word as she reached out for me. "Dada!" Her tiny voice was clear and her tongue and lips formed the word precisely.
I was almost numb from the shock. Angel had made so many incoherent sounds over the months, but it had never been like this. She’d recognized me and had come to the realization that the word and I were connected. She repeated the word again and again as she took another unsupported step towards me. Then something grabbed her attention, throwing her concentration off. She lost her balance and grew quiet as she began to fall forward. I reached out, wrapping my hands protectively around her waist, pulling her into my arms.

Keeping It Real: If I Were Famous

Today I am at sea! I am probably sipping an Electric Lemonade and trying to envision what life would be like if I were a famous author. Let's indulge, shall we?

1. A book fairy would really exist so when I typed "the end" then someone would magically take over and do all the editing, publishing, and marketing and all that jazz.

2. I would be on this cruise and need a bodyguard to protect me from all my fans... and he'd be hot... and sensitive... maybe Grant... or Tate... Okay, I need to stop or else I'll have another story to add to my ever growing to-write list.

3. I could go on exotic vacations all the time and consider it to be work because I'd be writing.

4. I'd travel all over to meet my Lovers of Lyssa Layne!

A girl can dream, right??? In the meantime, I love doing what I do and I'll just keep on, keepin' on!

Keeping It Real: I'm Ahead!

I feel like I could be jinxing myself but I'm finally ahead with my writing! My goal was to publish a book every other month this year in addition or in part with the boxed sets. At this point, the only books I "have" to write to meet this goal is my October release (thinking Jace's story), December release (lots of possibilities here, we'll see where my muse takes me), and the Christmas steamy novella... which is probably going to be closer to novel-length! Either way, it's a great feeling to be ahead! My goal is to have all of this done by July 1 and then I can take a deep breath and start planning out 2016... any requests???
