Friday Feast | A Cup of Hot Chocolate and a Pinch of Love

Greetings from Mary's Tavern! It's all about sinfully, delicious chocolate for the month of February. There's so much to celebrate this month, including my anniversary next Friday to my knight. We both love chocolate--from cakes, cookies (my knight is a cookie monster), pies, candy, and hot chocolate. Do I indulge every day? Aye! Yet with only one piece of dark chocolate. Psst, we won't discuss how much I consumed over the holidays, unless you're going to share the same with me.

The beautiful ...

Friday Feast | Gingerbread Scones

Welcome to Friday Feast in the Tavern! The weather has been positively gloomy and stormy this week. My wonderful knight (aka the hubby) reminded me that I never did make one of his favorites around the holidays: Gingerbread Scones! I must confess that last year was a bit of a blur, and I'm certain many of you will agree that yours was the same.

Even though the new year was about making healthy choices, these scones are delicious! And there's no sugar in the recipe. They're perfect on a chilly...

Long and Short Reviews Weekly Blog Challenge | Bonny Scotland

Welcome back to the Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge hosted by the fab people at Long and Short Reviews! This week's topic: A book/movie/TV show that influenced my life.

An easy one for me. The book, Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. How did it influence my life? The story swept me away on an epic adventure in search of my roots--my genealogy. In addition, I fell in love with bonny Scotland. I knew a few of my ancestors came from Scotland, Wales, and Ireland, but I discovered so much more while ...

Friday Feast | Sausage Bread Roll

Welcome to Friday Feast in the Tavern! Strangely, I did not plan to have two recipes that included sausage. Yet it appears that I have for the month of January. Since I had a semi-theme for this month (healthy choices and sausage), I might consider chocolate as the theme for February.

This tasty recipe came from my sister many years ago. Whenever I make this for a meal, it brings back fond memories of living in the state of Washington. My sister recently told me that her son's girlfriend swapp...

Long and Short Reviews Weekly Blog Challenge | Childhood Treasures

Welcome back to Wednesday's weekly blog challenge hosted by the fab people at Long and Short Reviews. This week's topic: Something I collected as a child.

Super easy, my friends! Coins. Specifically, pennies. I had a fascination with old coins. Who touched these ancient gems? What stories could they whisper to me? Where did their travels take them? They've been secretly tucked away in this box from my first trip to Disneyland over 50 years ago. The oldest coin? A penny from the year 1919.

I...

Friday Feast | The Pleasure of the Avocado

Welcome to Friday Feast in the Tavern! While watching my healthy food intake many decades ago, I recall eliminating avocados from my salads and sandwiches. They were high in fat and not good for those on a diet. Hmm...have I mentioned I don't like the word diet? I ditched the word a long time ago and rediscovered my love for avocados.

Here's the Oxford Dictionary's description for an avocado: a pear-shaped fruit with a rough leathery skin, smooth oily edible flesh, and a large stone.

Simply d...
