May’s Writing Boost is about entertaining! If you want to know how to tell whether what you’re writing is (gasp!) the dreaded deadly dull, and how to write to entertain yourself, read it here!

New stories in Taddle Creek

Now you can read my art heist story, “The Collectors,” published in Taddle Creek Number 48.

I also read an excerpt from my witchy entrepreneur story, “Fit to Print,” on the Taddle Creek Podcast.

Let’s all admire this gorgeous story illustration by Matthew Daley, too!

March Writing Boost: COURAGE!

My friends,

The lesson of these past few weeks, as war ravages Ukraine and other parts of the world, is one of the most important: how to be courageous.

I define courage as taking the action, best aligned with your integrity, that you would in the absence of fear.

Read this month’s Writing Boost to find out how to be courageous in your writing. I’ll also tell you about my Giving Pledge for 2022.

And, for a courage boost there’s poetry by Serhiy Zhadan, quoted below!

Does where you write impact your work?

It was such a pleasure chatting with poet rob mclennan about how living in Ottawa for awhile made a lasting impression and changed the way I write. One thing I always enjoy about it is its pace. It’s a city that enables the noticing of details. Thanks to Chaudiere Books for this thoughtful discussion!

Read the interview.
