Where you’ll find us at TCAF

Illustrator Jonathan Kociuba and I are launching our debut comic book, All of This at the Toronto Comic Arts Festival (TCAF) at the reference library, on May 12 and 13. We’re sharing a table with Matt Daley, AKA Shiny Pliers, who’s one of the most imaginative illustrators in the city. We’ll be on the third floor of the library, and Matt made us this handy map so you can find us!

Young Galaxy and indie freedom

I interviewed Montreal band Young Galaxy for NOW magazine about going independent and the state of the music industry. It was one of those interviews that went deep and stayed real. We even got into the state of the world.

Read “Young Galaxy are happy to no longer be on a record label” in NOW magazine.

You can also see all my recent articles here in one place on my new journalism portfolio.

Yamantaka // Sonic Titan

You’re on planet Pureland. Its namesake is from Chinese Buddhism, and this is not an easy world. Rather, it’s beset by conflict. You’re surviving in a bubble dome 10,000 years after a massive flood. You’re floating in orbit to the sound of heavy guitar riffs and distorted bass.

The narrative design and storytelling process Yamantaka // Sonic Titan used to develop their new album, Dirt, is impressive.

Read my interview with Alaska B, the collective’s leader and drummer, and find out more about the album, and why there’s so much confusion about them in the media.

Yamantaka // Sonic Titan are tired of the “maelstrom of confusion” that follows them, NOW magazine, March 23

Comic book launch at TCAF!

I’ve been collaborating with illustrator Jonathan Kociuba on “All of This,” a debut comic book about a sci-fi love affair set in Toronto’s condoland. It’s a comic adaptation of a short story I wrote, and watching it come to life through Jonathan’s illustrations is thrilling. We’ll be launching it at TCAF 2018, March 12 and 13. See you there!

-”Biting, hilarious, insightful and surprising”

-”TOO REAL, in the best way”

-”Hilarious, OMG, the band drama”

-”Really great writing. The call from the therapist was inspired. Awesome!”

-”Such an original way to frame things and the characterization was crystal clear!”

Read “Evidence” in Joyland magazine.
