Little drama: observed on Queen West, sunny May afternoon, around 3 p.m.

Fuchsia hair girl: “Well HELLO! Who are the flowers for?”

Bearded guy on speedbike, flowers stuffed into his backpack: “Mm gir’frnd.” (mumbled to sidewalk)

Girl: “You have a new girlfriend, WHAT?!”

Guy: (bikes away)

Girl: “See ya.” (wistfully)

Official book deal announcement

I’m excited about the official book deal announcement for my novel, CIRCLE OF STONES. It’s slated for 2015 with Dundurn Press. Writing the novel was a lesson in commitment and, in a unique way, a lesson in love. I invested years and energy into my characters, whom I came to care deeply about. As I edited and grew as a person, it felt like my characters were maturing and growing along with me. I had a sense we were all in the story together, even though for a long time the characters were simply apparitions that existed inside my head, gradually pushing and jostling to find their ways onto the page. 

Getting a publishing deal marks an important shift in my characters’ lives. They’re moving on now to live in the imaginations of readers. I’m really looking forward to sharing their stories with readers. I can’t wait to share them with you!
