The One True Choice
What is the only choice within us, surfacing again and again through an infinite variety of forms?
What is the one choice, with universal outcome? The choice that excludes nothing? The choice that will set us free?
There is a choice that will give us the feeling of home, wherever we are. It will enliven healing and open the floodgates of freedom. It will turn suffering to adventure and confusion to curiosity. It will relax the body, open the heart and ennoble the mind with unrestricted peace.
Who will be in this choice? Where will they find it? What will they do with it?
The one choice is earlier than thought, prior to memory and behind imagination. It is deep in the existential core of life, a question asked, again and again, in rhythm with creation.
Do you recognize the sense of choice? The sense, before the making, doing or taking. The sensing of choice, because one choice is here to be sensed?
Can you rest in that bright and powerful, ocean of the one choice? Not the feeling when choice is lost through choosing, but before that. Before the decision between this or that or the amputation of potential – even before options are conceived. The feeling of choice. The sense of choice. Being in choice. Alive.
This is choice: the openness, freedom, power and possibility of life. How would it be to fall back and to be this one choice? This openly streaming question to which life itself is the answer?
Being choice, uninterrupted, releasing even that expectant surge of choosing. Here, we can feel the brightest pulsation of permission to be here and now, for real, without litigation. No agenda.
Stay a while, being this choice, a moment before choosing, undamaged by losing. This unending moment of earliest Eden, behind the infinite branching of the brain that confuses us into confining the soul. Before the choosing, before the losing: stay as choice.
When did we learn to sacrifice choice to the choosing, between this or that, black or white, up or down, left or right, day or night? How did we contort to believe that choice means deleting me or you?
When did choice become a declaration of war?

Here is the one choice: straddling in the shackles of shame; discharging the nectar of evil; walking as innocence through the valleys of unquenchable guilt; breathing dense mists of betrayal and caressing the abandoned forms.
Yet this one choice has power. See how solitude evaporates in the rising of her bodily bliss, as curtains lift to newfound light and skies expand through exquisite, undeniable unity.
What is this agenda that would deny us this unbounded presence of choice? What solitary dictator claims precedence to freeze the miracle of life?

Suffering she’s an old friend and just as we resist her, so do we suffer.
See the man who thinks his choosing takes this suffering away. The one choice lost, as he fabricates, medicates and dedicates himself to phantoms of fear. How he chooses to ignore, resist, distract and silence this pain, the worry of his own emanation. How he chooses to oppress, repress and depress the life surging through his veins and then wonders why all feeling dies.
Yes he resists life, but now he asks: why does life resist me?

Here, in this living matter of universal love, breathing the freedom of infinite space, empowered by the passion of all that is, the one choice needs no choosing.
Yet choosing needs the choice, in order to choose. And just as the choosing shines and fades into the wellspring of choice, so does choice survive, forever alive. Choosing needs the choice, but the choice doesn’t need the choosing. Being the choice, we always survive.
The choice that is no choice. The choice which sources even the chooser. The choice to receive. The one choice that is never spent, never lost, never wasted. The choice that can’t be expelled through choosing. The choice to allow it all, the choice to be.
The choice to allow the wash, flow and receding of sensation, The choice to receive impressions, without deletion. The one choice as the open way between the universe outside and the universe within.
We would rather cling to the known than face the unknown –the known being our house, our furniture, our family, our character, our work, our knowledge, our fame, our loneliness, our gods – that little thing that moves around incessantly within itself, within its own limited embittered existence – Krishnamurti

Purity
[image error]See the world, and see the seeing. Let the eyes be pure without negation. Let the ears hear without distraction. Let the mind think without censorship. Let the body touch without contraction. Let the voice express without obstruction. Let the spirit rest without limitation.
Be pure in disgust and pure in shame. Be pure in lust and pure in undressing all these forms that confused us about the source of all we are.
Purity, before, within and behind each second of feeling. Never to be possessed. Never to be adulterated. Never to be punished or sent away. Purity cutting through all sea of delusion. Never denying itself.
Affirmation:
Here, I am always, already Pure
“I have also seen children successfully surmounting the effects of an evil inheritance. That is due to purity being an inherent attribute of the soul.”
Mahatma Gandhi
Belonging
[image error]What comes first, the sense of belonging or the belonging? Can we sense something without it being here to be sensed?
Learn to recognize the inner scent of Belonging. Whether or not we feel it, we anyway, always belong. Before and behind the cruelest, kindest dances of acceptance and rejection we are here, holding the dance in the heart.
Sense the belonging and share it with every stranger and with the vast ocean of unknowing.
Beneath it all, let the stress and tiredness, the search and the striving, the regret and the missing, the anger and the fear know this belonging. Let the sense of belonging follow it all as a watchful parent shadows his child. And at the end of the day, let yourself fall into the rejuvenating space of this belonging – deeper than the earth, wider than the sky, more authentic than the purest thought.
Affirmation:
Here, I am always, already Belonging
“You discover that your longings are universal longings, that you’re not lonely and isolated from anyone. You belong.”
F. Scott Fitzgerald
Peace
[image error]Peace is freely available in every moment, inside and outside ourselves. This peace – so familiar, so close to home – can be a whisper but when we listen to it can expand as a universal affirmation of all forms of life. Waiting for the conflict to end until we find peace, disconnects us from the peace that underlies every conflict. The surrender of all forms to avoid conflict does not bring an end of conflict, but can lead to the violation of forms it is our responsibility to protect.
Peace resounds through nature and out of the infinite space of the sky. It is the subtle vibration of matter and is inseparable from every split between our seeing and that which is seen. As we learn to rest in this peace, we rise above conflict and see the needs of the whole. When we know the power of the bedrock of peace beneath all manifestation, we can let it support the evolution of the needs of the whole.
Affirmation:
Here, I am always, already in Peace
“Peace is not an absence of war, it is a virtue, a state of mind, a disposition for benevolence, confidence, justice.”
Baruch Spinoza

Need
[image error]Do not gamble your soul on imaginations of what tomorrow could bring, for tomorrow is no more than the yearnings of today. Do not murder the moment just because that which you are not has fallen away. Even when the world undresses your worst fears, know that the inner world is more powerful than the wildest dreams.
So ask these worlds, what is needed? What is needed for the whole? What is the need in the next small step, the next breath of air, the next touch of life? Listen to the needs of the moment and rest in the unfolding of eternity.
Affirmation:
Here, I am always, already the Need
“Many people are alive but don’t touch the miracle of being alive.”
Thich Nhat Hanh
Child
[image error]When our mind and hearts are clear from all we have learned, we begin to see. Here, the child, an open channel from the world outside to the universe within. In the child, mother and father are one as perfect clarity allows all seeing and all falling away into the eternal joy of each passing moment.
Alive now and alive as you, the child offers the essential wisdom of all that which is unfolding through you, as you. Let the child show you how to be, being here in the spontaneous arising of the vital senses within the miracle of life.
Affirmation:
Here, I am always, already the Child
“Cause only a fool lean upon his own misunderstanding. What has been hidden from the wise and the prudent, been revealed to the babe and the suckling.”
Bob Marley
Life
[image error]Life is never born and life never dies, although life expresses through all passages of birth and death. Just as each beginning leads to an end, so does each departure precede arrival. Can life be separate from the source of all we are, as we grow, change, transform, grow wise and age through the gentle cycles of form? Can life be ever divided from itself?
Open the core of the living, in each breath in every moment, alive in every step taken where life moves through the body and into life, and back through the body to the core of boundless life behind even the most intimate knowing of all we are.
Affirmation:
Here, I am always, already Living
“Death is not extinguishing the light; it is only putting out the lamp because the dawn has come.”
Rabindranath Tagore
Innocence
[image error]We are born into this world as innocence, an in innocence we pass out of this world. In between, an innocence precedes and continues behind all doing, feeling, thinking, pretending, confusing and healing. We are innocent in our guilt. It is even our innocence that gives us a sense of guilt. Could guilt sense itself? No. It is the unending sun of innocence that shines from the heart as an inseparable light of who and what we are.
Relax in this innocence. Let its clarity and potency undo the lie of inner condemnation. Let innocence bless this touch, this breath and this mind. Let innocence shine upward, downward, towards the past and toward the future. Go softly as innocence. She was only ever a heartbeat away.
Affirmation:
Here, I am always, already Innocent
“The essential self is innocent, and when it tastes its own innocence knows that it lives for ever.”
John Updike
Curiosity
[image error]Witnessing ourselves in life as life, a perennial curiosity awakens, guides and enlightens all experience. Inherent to each conscious moment, curiosity penetrates experience and invites it to unfold. Before, during and behind every disappointment, curiosity lives. Curiosity opens where expectation is released and consciousness can meet the miracle of itself through variated expressions of universal source.
Allow this curiosity, it has the power to release the promise from each contraction and to deepen every experience into insight and the wisdom of being here in an evolution of unity.
Affirmation:
Here, I am always, already Curious
“The first and simplest emotion which we discover in the human mind, is curiosity.”
Edmund Burke
Care
[image error]Care underlies every expression of feeling and is the spontaneous arising out of the universal source through all natural forms. When we lose our sense of care, we suffer abandonment. When we seek to possess, we abandon care. Care is the inherent softness of awareness, that nurtures, affirms and enjoys all expressions of life. When we suffer, it is our care which suffers. When we celebrate, it is our care rejoicing with universal delight. Look deeply into the eyes and you will see the care behind all fury. Touch the world with care, and care will move through you, soothing the opening to the wonder of being here.
Affirmation:
Here, I am always, already Caring
“Imagine you’re walking along and you see a plant coming up through the ground, or a kitten, or a dog, whatever it may be – and your heart opens out. Mettā is already there, spontaneously, without a single thought taking place. So why do we have to seek it?”
Russel Williams
