We need something for grief. We need nothing for joy.

Dear Friends,

Spring is here, and with it, the season of rejuvenation. What is this power that rises, unconditionally through all forms of life, revitalizing the physical dimension, bringing an irrational smile to the face and a playfulness to the mood? What is this sunny side of life?

When we can allow it, this unconditional joy will awaken our bodies, hearts and minds, nurturing our cells and inspiring our thoughts. Yet often, the arrival of joy can meet resistance. We feel this joy isn’t for us, because we suffer, or because there is suffering. We deny joy, because all forms get lost. We resist the joy of life, out of the wisdom of inevitable death.

This can mean that just as the earth is awakening with new life, we experience a tiredness, an ancient shudder of stress, or a kind of disappointment that echoes that every longing will be unfulfilled. Our beliefs state that because this friction is here, the joy cannot be felt.

But this is the illusion.

Joy is here, as a nurturing elixir of life, with every moment of consciousness. It’s here, even behind the agony of loss. It’s here, even in the confusion of mind or in the wilderness of the soul. Even when we feel we’ve lost all purpose, this joy is here, behind the scenes of the personality, waiting to celebrate the miracle of sight in the here and now. Even the experience of pain can be a joyful curiosity, even the monotony of our own conditioning, when seen, can release an absurd moment of joy.

After the all the horrors of World War II, when the entire world was broken in the ethical humiliation of it’s own repeating failure to avoid the murderous monstrosities of power abuse and war, a few broken soldiers sat together and began to laugh at the absurdity of it all. The Goon Show was born, which captivated and released the stress of trauma from a whole nation. Out of he goon show, came Monty Python – celebrating the joy in the abusidity – the exhilarating existential ,light on all the forms we could believe ourselves to be.

Grief, preservation, sorrow and loss come and go. The joy remains. All we need is the courage to allow it, despite our pain, amid our personal devastation, as a powerful assuage to the suffering of impermanence.

Who will have the courage to allow this living joy, even in the river of evolution in which all that is seen is already lost, and all that is felt is already in motion? Who can take the leap into the inner unknown so as TO BE joy, amid all the squalls, tides and currents of creation? Even for a moment, even for a second, even for eternity, to let ourselves be this joy, and to let it moves us to where we need to go. Do it for the unique, esteemed personality you carry, do it for this precious body, do it for us all. Breath in the joy. Breath out a blessing on all the forms where joy is needed. Repeat and let the heart heal itself.

With love,

Georgi

WHEN SORROW COMES

When our jaws are grinding, our fists are clenched, our skin allergic and feelings are aching with pain, relaxation is what we yearn for. But when we are able to relax, into what are we relaxing?

Are we relaxing into the contracted flesh or the hard-wired nervous system?

Are we relaxing into the tired muscles of our aching legs?

The mind could tell us so, but it’s not so.

We are relaxing into space. We relax into the space around the body as a finer home, a sanctuary, a peaceful, loving, unbounded dimension of rejuvenation.

The mind relaxes into the spaciousness of silence. The heart relaxes into the stillness between all possible feelings. The body relaxes into the empty simplicity of gravity.

This relaxation, in which the space inside and the space outside become one, opens the doors to freedom. We loosen up, we can allow many perspectives, we can allow the rhythms of the body to realign with the rhythms of the universe.

This empty space. on which all of us depend, is not empty. It is a source of pure potentiality. It doesn’t judge and it never rejects. All forms are home to it, just as it is at home in all forms.

So feel the freedom to unfurl the stressed feeling of grief or sorrow into the loving space around you. Let there be space before it, after it, around it and within it. Let it be ever so gently caressed through the soft touch of space; let it be heard by the ever receptive listener of eternity; and let it be held, like a new born baby, in the peaceful arms of infinity.

Software of Suffering: Extract from Nondual Therapy – The Psychology of Awakening

Imagine there’s a sense of belonging, at the core of any form we could ever take, that can never be taken away, and which can always be accessed through an open, inner door.

How would it be if the love we feel for another was experienced as a love that is never possessed, that moves through us and through all forms and which is never lost?

Can we imagine a peace which is always here, regardless of the condition of heart or mind, regardless of our wars and conflicting cultures? A peace that underlies all winning and losing; all competition and collaboration; all birth and death; and all thought?

“We live in a time, a place and a culture in which the cognitive functioning aspects of the brain and mind have been elevated as the pinnacle or place to operate from, at the loss and exclusion of understanding the great wisdom and contribution that the heart brings. And so we’ve been imbalanced for a very long time.”

DARA WILLIAMS

Is it even rational to believe that peace depends on the end of war to exist? Or that love depends on the absence of hatred?

Such layers of misconception, with dreadful consequences, are facilitated by our fundamental belief in negation: that we can cease to be. Out of this belief in the choice between being and non-being, existence and non-existence, presence and absence, we go to war with ourselves. Life declares war on life, and declares it an endgame.

Consciousness conflicts with consciousness; and experience competes with experience. We split the psyche into pieces and suffer an endless repetition of affliction, when all that is needed is to begin to open some familiar inner doors and to begin exploring who we truly are.

No Time, No Space

A core conditioning is found in the belief that we are definitively separate from each other and from the whole. This perceptive consensus takes differentiation and reframes it as absolute division. It states that we’re utterly separate from the Source of what we are; from the earth of which we’re composed; from our ancestry; from other forms of life; from the universe; from each other; and from manifestation. The belief in separation gives us an illusion of control and the urge to control is primarily driven by fear. Fear, in turn, can only arise where there is this core belief in separation, so it becomes a catch-22.

This fundamental conditioning of the Separate Self is paradoxically shared by all of us: it’s consensual. Because the methodology of Nondual Therapy ventures beyond common conditioning, it could be received as conceptual. Yet all this conditioning – and the conditions of our suffering – are based on the concept of absolute separation – which never stands up to conscious inquiry.

Take some time and look around the space you’re in right now. Let your eyes softly scan the objects in view. Are they separable from your seeing? Be aware of the pull of gravity on the body. Is this pull of gravity separable from the feeling of it? Is the pull of gravity on your body, separable from the pull of gravity on all you can perceive? At some time today, take a moment to unconditionally take in another person. Is this other person separable from your experience of them? Is anything that occurs in conscious awareness separable from the awareness that allows it to be experienced? Is this awareness in you, free of content, separable from the awareness in anyone or anything else?

Thus, the deeper delusion of the modern era: the one belief we all share, that unites each mind in Western culture, is the belief that each human is separate from the rest. The inner world conflicts with the outer. The human world competes with heaven and earth, as if it were separate. We work on ourselves, as if one part were the fixer and the other broken, ignoring the one that has the potential to be aware of both. We criticize and humiliate ourselves, as if we were only the victim and the accuser were some separate, abstract judge. At times it can seem, that even our attitude to the ground on which we stand is one of suspicion and enmity.

Separation is our conditioned default, and based on this belief, humanity is at war with itself. Separation demands us to see an experience as ‘other’ to who we are. Having made it ‘other’, we judge it. In judgement, we decide what we want and what we don’t. We then try to withdraw consciousness from what we don’t want, as if that would negate it. Clearly, to negate what has already been seen in consciousness is a lie. But consciousness brings life, and when it’s withdrawn, it can make uncomfortable thoughts and feelings go away (for a while).

Thus, the inner judge or critic is born. Judgement (when taken as an arbitrator of reality) splits the psyche into the stuff it likes and the stuff it wants to get rid of. The desirable stuff is owned, and the undesirable is abandoned. Yet the undesirable is still there, repressed, now with the added suffering of abandonment. A complex of conflict is formed within the psyche, in which experience becomes fractured through apparently opposing and incompatible opposites. This energetic density in turn encourages the belief that all experience should be dictated by the mind. When the mind fails in its grasp of ‘reality’, confusion ensues, which creates more fear and generates an increasing irrational cleaving towards structures of belief.

Take the example of ‘Human Versus Nature’. Nature is ultimately beyond the control of the human mind. Volcanic eruption, hurricane, earthquake, drought or plague can disempower humanity in a moment. We are helpless in nature, just as in birth and death. Because we are afraid, we create a separation. We talk of nature as if the human were not part of it; as if our bodies and minds were not mammalian, as if we have a separate existence from the sun, moon or even the oxygen in the air. Nature is perceived as an unruly ‘thing’ outside of our cities, and sometimes showing up in the cracks in the concrete. Nature is a threat to our sanity, our health, our homes and our communities. When we’re surprised by its power and beauty, we try to grasp the pleasurable aspects and to control the fearful. Most of all, we collectively negate the magnificence of nature by withdrawing our consciousness behind a shield of separation. We see trees in our boulevards as if they were furniture, not living beings. We relegate animals as inferior life-forms, as if life could be measured, rationed and quality-tested. We ignore the miracle of our own breathing and attempt to repress and control the spontaneous intelligence of our own bodies.

Yet we are nature itself. It never was separate from our bodies, emotions and minds. We are nature in action. Even the current misconception of the Separate Self is a natural phenomenon – part of the pendulating movement of evolution as the individual expands through unity.

The idea of absolute separation is a fallacy, yet much as we depend on inherent unity, it bothers us. We shrink our perception into the consensually understood concept of separation and deny one of the greatest resources available to the living brain – the resource of its own Source.

Baruch Spinoza put it well: “Whatsoever is contrary to nature is contrary to reason, and whatsoever is contrary to reason is absurd.” Yet, we continue to move as if we are essentially contrary to nature. We forgot what it is to shine as the sun; to rage as a storm; to be unbounded as the sky and to express with the spontaneity of birdsong. Collectively, we’re resisting life, becoming a natural form, which William Wordsworth called: “the still, sad music of humanity.”

It’s not enough to separate from the natural world, we’re also conditioned into separation from each other. The same formula applies: we withdraw our consciousness from what has already been seen to try to negate it. When that contraction becomes habitual, then we become less conscious. We shutter up the windows of perception in a misconceived attempt to fix our world through censorship of experience.

In this conceived separation between humans, our unconscious shame can manifest as disgust towards our friend. Our subliminal contraction of guilt can show up as an accusation of the government, or another external authority. Our denied fear can explode as rage towards an outer trigger. Our unfelt sadness can color our world with an appearance of cruelty. Our resistance to life breeds subconscious attitudes that are often inherited, such as: “life is grief” or “the world is bad”.

All of this is based on duality, and at its core, our first mental judgement is based on the belief in the dualistic opposites of good and evil. This belief has split our psyche through many dimensions and it is a primary cause of fear.

The more we invest the separated, so-called ‘outer’ world with the energy of our inner afflictions, the more we depend on the conceived ‘other’ (our enemies, society, the world). The ‘other’ is what informs us as to who we are. In this, the Personality becomes shaped by projection. We disinvest from direct experience and invest in the imagined experience of others, to get a sense of who we are. We lose connection with our natural authority and delegitimize our inherent sense of truth.

As we give away power, we biologically experience a loss of vitality. Yet we must continue, so we draw energy from survival reflexes – the adrenaline rush that comes when a lion is approaching – and we must fight or run for our lives. Yet there is no lion and no immediate survival threat, so in time, we burn out through the accumulation of unreleased stress. We freeze inside ourselves, moving into sentient poverty, and we dissociate from direct physical experience.

We are born free as creatures of bliss, compassion, friendliness, innocence and curiosity. Among us, there is a tremendous love and natural belonging. Burning beneath our numbness, negativity and grief is a celebration of life and a passion for being here. All of this is continuously empowered by a universe suffused with peace. This peace feeds, soothes, honors and affirms us from within. There is purity in our lust; clarity in our confusion; innocence in our crimes; and belonging even in the thralls of rejection.

Our sense of truth, freedom and peace is never lost, yet we have collectively learned to deny it. We do this, because of resistance to pain and the fear of suffering. We are still learning the secret melody of our sorrow and the healing elixir of the truth within our most forbidden emotions. Yet in denying the spontaneous arising of emotion, we also reject the experience of the Nondual Qualities of our True Nature.

The sword of judgement that divides our experience into good and bad is both a curse and blessing. The effect of our current mental programming into all-or-nothing dualities is a fragmentation of the human psyche. Through the attempted negation of unwanted feelings, we freeze the energy of life and this creates a density which walls us from the whole, reinforcing the belief in separation. To liberate the Felt Sense of unity, we need to be ready to honor these frozen areas of the psyche, and then allow them to melt back to Source.

As these energetic blocks are made of repressed emotion and pain, liberation begins with allowing feelings to be felt with an open curiosity. It continues with subtle changes in attitude in which we release the agenda to negate suffering, and rather, begin to appreciate it as an inseparable effect of manifestation. In doing so, a plethora of secondary suffering can be released as healing through the path of least resistance. When we become aware of a contraction, the space of awareness opens around the tense area of density. This space alone brings relaxation and a subtle presence of loving acceptance. In this space, the contraction begins to unfold, merging with that love. When a contraction melts into love or another Nondual Quality, there is often an infusion of peace. This sense of peace characterizes the completion of an evolutionary cycle of form through the human psyche.

DNA Molecules Display Telepathy-like Quality

DNA molecules can display what almost seems like telepathy, research now reveals.

Double helixes of DNA can recognize matching molecules from a distance and then gather together, all seemingly without help from any other molecules, scientists find. Previously, under the classic understanding of DNA, scientists had no reason to suspect that double helixes of the molecule could sort themselves by type, let alone seek each other out.

The spiraling structure of DNA includes strings of molecules called bases. Each of its four bases, commonly known by the letters A, T, C and G, is chemically attracted to a specific partner — A likes binding to T, and C to G. The scheme binds paired strands of DNA into the double helix the molecule is famous for.

Scientists investigated double-stranded DNA tagged with fluorescent compounds. These molecules were placed in saltwater that contained no proteins or other material that could interfere with the experiment or help the DNA molecules communicate.

Curiously, DNA with identical sequences of bases were roughly twice as likely to gather together as DNA molecules with different sequences.

The known interactions that draw the bases together are not the factor bringing these double helixes close. Double helixes of DNA keep their bases on their insides. On their outsides, they have highly electrically charged chains of sugars and phosphates, which obscure the forces that pull bases together.

Although it looks as if spooky action or telepathic recognition is going on, DNA operates under the laws of physics, not the supernatural.

To understand what researchers conjecture is really happening, think of double helixes of DNA as corkscrews. The bases that make up a strand of DNA each cause the corkscrew to bend one way or the other. Double-stranded DNA with identical sequences each result in corkscrews “whose ridges and grooves match up,” said researcher Sergey Leikin, a physical biochemist at the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development in Bethesda, Md.

The electrically charged chains of sugars and phosphates of double helixes of DNA cause the molecules to repel each other. However, identical DNA double helixes have matching curves, meaning they repel each other the least, Leikin explained.

The scientists conjecture such “telepathy” might help DNA molecules line up properly before they get shuffled around. This could help avoid errors in how DNA combines, errors that underpin cancer, aging and other health problems. Also, the proper shuffling of DNA is essential to sexual reproduction, as it helps ensure genetic diversity among offspring, Leikin added.

Leikin and his colleagues detailed their findings in the Jan. 31 2008 issue of the Journal of Physical Chemistry B.

Science Reveals: Human Thoughts can Activate Genes in Rodents

A tiny, light-based machine uses people’s brain waves to generate a flicker of light, which then turns on genes in the brains of mice. The new method could one day be used by people who suffer from chronic pain or epilepsy to instantly deliver drugs from a brain implant when they experience characteristic brain waves at the onset of pain or a seizure, said study author Martin Fussenegger, a researcher at the ETH Zurich in Switzerland.

“For the first time, it was possible to use brain waves — the subject’s thoughts — to induce gene expression,” Fussenegger told Live Science.

In recent years, scientists have developed tiny, biologically based machines from some of the fundamental building blocks of life, such as DNA, RNA and proteins. For instance, scientists have designed microbial drug factories out of yeast and bacteria that produce drugs like morphine. Other groups have created life-forms with completely man-made six-letter DNA. And still others have created tiny computer hard-drives that use DNA as the coding language.

Other researchers have designed cybernetic brain implants where, humans or monkeys can control the brain waves of monkeys. But few researchers have tried to combine both synthetic molecular machines and brain implants.

In their new study, Fussenegger and his colleagues asked several volunteers to meditate, concentrate by playing a game of “Minecraft” or control their brain activity with biofeedback, a technique where people sync their brain waves using a guided display Each of these activities produces a unique signature of electrical brain activity, which was captured by electroencephalography (EEG) and fed wirelessly into an implant in a mouse’s brain.

“These brain-wave patterns they are recorded, processed and then we designated a certain threshold,” Fussenegger said. “If the pattern goes above this threshold level, it turns on a near-infrared LED for a defined period of time.”

This near-infrared light then trips a tiny cellular machine — a bacterial protein that is activated by light — inside the mouse’s brain implant. The bacterial protein sets off a chemical cascade that turns on a tailor-made gene snippet that encodes a specific human protein. The team then verifies that the genes are activated by measuring the human protein levels in the mouse’s bloodstream, Fussenegger said.

Though the current experiment used a human protein with no therapeutic purpose, the same technique could eventually be used in the human brain to deliver precise quantities of drugs as needed, Fussenegger said.

For instance, just before an epileptic seizure, the brain produces a unique type of electrical activity that could trigger a tiny, light-activated genetic implant that quickly produces an anti-seizure medication. Chronic pain may also produce signature brain waves just before the onset of discomfort, which could be used to preemptively produce painkillers in the brain.

“This is an interesting proof of concept,” said Kevin Gardner, a structural biologist at the City University of New York’s Advanced Science Research Center who was not involved in the study.

Science Reveals: Patterns of Light can be Teleported #energy #paranormal

In September 2017, Nature Communications published research by a team comprising Scottish and South African researchers, demonstrating entanglement swapping and teleportation of orbital angular momentum “patterns” of light. This is a crucial step towards realising a quantum repeater for high-dimensional entangled states.

Quantum communication over long distances is integral to information security and has been demonstrated in free space and fibre with two-dimensional states, recently over distances exceeding 1200 km between satellites. But using only two states reduces the information capacity of the photons, so the link is secure but slow. To make it secure and fast requires a higher-dimensional alphabet, for example, using patterns of light, of which there are an infinite number. One such pattern set is the orbital angular momentum (OAM) of light. Increased bit rates can be achieved by using OAM as the carrier of information. However, such photon states decay when transmitted over long distances, for example, due to mode coupling in fibre or turbulence in free space, thus requiring a way to amplify the signal. Unfortunately such “amplification” is not allowed in the quantum world, but it is possible to create an analogy, called a quantum repeater, akin to optical fibre repeaters in classical optical networks.

An integral part of a quantum repeater is the ability to entangle two photons that have never interacted – a process referred to as “entanglement swapping”. This is accomplished by interfering two photons from independent entangled pairs, resulting in the remaining two photons becoming entangled. This allows the establishment of entanglement between two distant points without requiring one photon to travel the entire distance, thus reducing the effects of decay and loss. It also means that you don’t have to have a line of sight between the two places.

An outcome of this is that the information of one photon can be transferred to the other, a process called teleportation.  Like in the science fiction series, Star Trek, where people are “beamed” from one place to another, information is “teleported” from one place to another. If two photons are entangled and you change a value on one of them, then other one automatically changes too. This happens even though the two photons are never connected and, in fact, are in two completely different places.

In this latest work, the team performed the first experimental demonstration of entanglement swapping and teleportation for orbital angular momentum (OAM) states of light. They showed that quantum correlations could be established between previously independent photons, and that this could be used to send information across a virtual link. Importantly, the scheme is scalable to higher dimensions, paving the way for long-distance quantum communication with high information capacity.

The Quantum Two in the One: 1 Single Photon Communicates 2 ways. Science, Consciousness & Nonduality

“The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed.”
 C.G. Jung

Using a single photon, or particle of light, two people can simultaneously send information to one another, scientists report in a new pair of papers. The feat relies on a quirk of quantum mechanics — superposition, the phenomenon through which particles can effectively occupy two places at once.

Imagine that two people, Alice and Bob, are stationed some distance apart. In standard classical physics, Alice and Bob would each require their own photon to send each other messages simultaneously, with each light particle transmitting a single bit, 0 or 1.

But if Alice and Bob possess a photon that is in a superposition — simultaneously located near Alice and near Bob — both of them can manipulate that photon to encode a 0 or 1, and then send it back to the other. How each manipulates the photon determines which of the two receives the photon in the end. If Alice and Bob put in the same bit — both 0s or both 1s — Alice receives the photon. If their bits don’t match, Bob gets it. Since Alice knows whether she sent a 0 or a 1, she immediately knows whether Bob encoded a 0 or 1, and vice versa.

To show that such communication is possible, Walther and colleagues sent single photons through an arrangement of mirrors and other optical devices. The setup put the photon in a superposition, sending it simultaneously to two stations that represented Alice and Bob.

By changing the phase of the light’s electromagnetic wave — shifting where the troughs and peaks of the wave fell — the researchers encoded the photon with a 0 or 1 at each station. Then, at each station, the photon — still in limbo between Alice and Bob — was sent to the opposite station. Along the way, the photon interacted with itself, interfering like water ripples combining to amplify their strength or cancel out. That interference determined whether the final photon was detected at Alice’s station or Bob’s.

Sending information via quantum particles is a popular research subject, thanks to the promise of unhackable quantum communication (SN: 12/23/17, p. 27). The new studies specify a previously unidentified twist on that type of technique. “Sometimes you overlook a cool idea, and then it’s just literally right in front of your nose,” says University of Vienna experimental physicist Philip Walther.

Theoretical physicists Flavio Del Santo of the University of Vienna and Borivoje Dakić from the Institute for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information of the Austrian Academy of Sciences describe the theory behind the procedure in the Feb. 9 Physical Review Letters. Walther, Del Santo, Dakić and colleagues follow up with a demonstration of the technique in a paper posted at arXiv.org on February 14.
