New Infections

With Windows 7,we have had quite a few instances lately with the computers not booting to the desktop, but instead getting just a black screen. Guess what, it's infected!!! But it is fairly easy to fix if you know how to boot to "safe mode" with networking. Once you are in this mode, you can run the clean up tools I provided you in my book. This usually gets it done so you can boot to normal mode. Then run the tools again and you should be fine. Don't forget to run the avast "boot" scan as well.

New Pricing

My marketing consultant says the price of my book is too high to take real advantage of the " word of mouth" marketing strategy which social media marketing relies on. So, the price has been lowered to US$4.99. Available at these sites.

What's Up with Computers R4U2

HERE'S WHAT'S COMING UP with Computers R4U2 (07/12/14)
I know I haven't posted much of late, I have been quite busy with some updates. Things in the technical world change at a fairly rapid rate and this of course affects my book.
FIRSTLY, there are almost nil new computers being sold that come with Windows 8, instead they are loaded with Windows 8.1. This means that the first part of Chapter 1 needs to be changed. This should be done and published (on Amazon) in a week or so.
SECONDLY, for those that did buy a Windows 8 computer, the free update process to Windows 8.1 has been vastly improved. I have done enough of them now that I am comfortable with writing about the procedure. This will be done shortly. I am not putting it in the book, I will post it throughout my social media channels and my web page so stay tuned.
THIRDLY, I have had enough time to thoroughly use and test an assimilated "start" button for Windows 8/8.1, that I am also comfortable writing a procedure for you to use. It makes using the new windows so much more comfortable. I will include this procedure in my updated book.
HAPPY COMPUTERING

MY GIVE AWAY PROGRAM

I have implemented a give-away program for my book. There is a couple things I still have to put in place, but I have already contacted the first winner, who was the very first "person" to like my FB Author Page. I will not be asking you to do anything to be a winner ( this is not a contest) because I have already set the criteria. Thanks to all for buying my book, following, liking and sharing my page here and all the other social-media forums I use.

Still On About Windows 8.1

I went through the upgrade process from Windows 8 to 8.1 on my home puter. Microsoft, more or less forced me into it!! Guess what. Microsoft has finally got it right. All my data and all my software programs are intact. Even my Firefox browser settings, bookmarks etc are all the same and still there, wonders never cease. It's about time!!! Although I do suggest, as Microsoft does, that you do a complete user data backup first.

Windows 8.1 upgrade from Windows 8

The last couple of days I have had the opportunity to work out getting the Windows 8.1 update loaded without having to set up or use a Microsoft account, thereby avoiding the "online" user account on your computer. I did find that the non microsoft programs such as antivirus, open office, teamviewer and start button software did not get deleted. So, either microsoft fixed that update annoyance or the avoidance of the microsoft account did.( who knows) But , I would still not do this without at least backing up your user data. I worked with 2 Windows 8 computers, one that had the upgrade "pop-up" on its' screen and one that I went looking for the upgrade.
The time it takes to do the procedure is about three hours, give or take, depending on your internet speed. The download file you need from microsoft is around 4GB.
If you care to try this on your own please remember two things. 1) When you get to the setting up stage, DO NOT BE CONNECTED TO THE NET and skip the step to do so!!! 2) Do the "customized" install, unless of course you want all Microsoft's "bigbrother" stuff watching everything you do on your puter.
In the near future I will write the full step by step update procedure and add it as a chapter to my book. The procedure will be lengthy to write. I will post when it is added to the book.

Windows 8

If you have windows 8 and get the pop-up across your screen to update to 8.1 free. The pop-up actually comes from Microsoft, but I suggest you do not do it!! Firstly, you will need to create a Microsoft account. DO NOT FORGET THE PASSWORD YOU USE! Secondly, the update process is quite lengthy. Thirdly, all non Microsoft programs, like your anti-virus disappear. Your data remains but you have to reload the programs . It's like doing a "refresh"
Fourthly, most of you will end up with an online account and you will have to sign in with the password each time you boot up, this can also be fixed by changing the account to a "local account". We have seen it that the computer becomes unusable without an internet connection! So, if you boot up and try to sign in , you can't get into your account. It reminds me of Hotmail, when it decides it no longer likes your password. Good luck getting back in!

ISBN's

I have a friend having trouble getting goodreads to accept her ISBN's. She does not have her books on amazon but instead with B&N etc.
Anyone out there ever encounter similar.
Any ideas would be gratefully appreciated. She has tried contacting GoodReads but gets no answer.
