Music Theme – Hidden

Bear picked the theme for this week. I am a few days late because…well, I was hidden. Busy might be more accurate, or swamped.

This theme made me think of how the internet affords us a way to be hidden. We can say just what we want to, we can project any image we choose.

We can sit at our desks in an old t-shirt and shorts and pretend we are in a tux, dancing with a princess -as if life is a constant series of magical nights…

My favorite things to hide are the undesirable surroundings in pic...

Covet

image

Turn your face to the sun
Let it melt the ice within
Embracing the run-off
Shake away the chill

How do I embrace kisses
that have never been given
I am a slow burn, molten
My desires won’t fade

Let the music take you
‘Til the voices are one
Every guitar blends
Your heart will mend

Your voice is my undoing
Living under my skin
An adrenaline rush, without end
A melody of my buried sins

Eat of the apple, it is yours
Go ahead, break the bread
You’ll find no gracious savior
Only this irreverent t...

Top Shelf Poison

image

It’s a sideways spin-out
A top shelf sip of poison
An overground switch
Too many for counting
The poets are dropping
Losing races by hundreds
Disqualified the judges
Hunting for adjustment
Confused by hunches
Interruption of thought
Corrupting my body
Twisting the stitches
Spared the cruelty
Clipped the happiness
Sharpened all the notes
All for a quick taste
A slight sense to feel

With

Not one second to heal

Last Place Trophy

There are no blank slates
Saline storms chase memories
Sinister inscriptions creep
Tainting the tomorrows
Tenaciously sought yesterday

Blurred expectations appear
Fluctuate on silent failures
Intentions melt onto the floor
Regrets played like finger paints
Our masterpiece torched

I thrive in disappointment
The only way I will be victor
Your rejection soon to be a trophy
My dusty shelves collect sorrow
As I bleed words on a torn page

Breathe

image

The stillness of the air rests
On my heavy chest
Beside your intricate breath
Beneath the willows
Away from the noise

I pull you into quiet
Wrap you in velvet leaves
Hold you closer still
Until your breath catches
And we are safe from it all

I can show you colors
Shades you’ll never see
Find them in my eyes
You can have them all
If you’ll only breathe

Last Call

image

She misses the way he sang
Songs of his faith in the two
Regrets letting him out of reach
Freedom turned out a ruse

She never saw the line behind
The last call robbed her blind
There are things she would say
Remind him where she stands

But he won’t hear her cries
Another has captured his heart
He is far away from her now
On the road to someone new

She misses the way he looked
Longing in his every glance
Eyes for her, she never knew
To tend the flowers they grew

He has long since forgotten
Ev...

Non-Love In More Than Ten Sentences Challenge

image

Holly picked me for this challenge. Instead of linking other bloggers, I am giving an open invitation to try this. I would like to see a few non poetic types do this. You know who you are, right? Here is my non-love poem.

Turn away and face the rain
There’s no room in this heart
None for love or even hope
It’s a saw blade in use
A rare form of obtuse
If I were you, I would run
As far from this haunt
As you might afford
It’s a rallying call
For the grand ending
All care of my spite
It’s “win...
