Abigail’s Swiftly Tilting Planet

When life knocks you down you are expected to dust yourself off and punch life back. Maturity, wisdom and age often is at odds with this philosophy. There are the times when dusting yourself back off is so far removed from the equation that you would just rather rest for a few minutes. When life knocks you down, you sometimes have to soak in the moment while you exhale in the rain.Sometimes you don't want to dance in the rain, you just want to stand there and let it soak in. Abby

For The Love Of Abby

Love can make you cry with joy down in your soul.
Love can move the mountain of your heart to new place and beat every second for the one that you love.
Love is that feeling that is undefinable and often unobtainable.
Love is a paradise that is filled to the brim with your heart’s desire.
Love is the mirage that people seek in a desert of heartbreak.
There are times when you are in love with being in love.
Loves comes softy and whispers your name in the wind and rain.
Love is a peculiar thing.

Abigail Loves Layered Salad

I'm not the healthiest eater but last weekend I had the most delicious layered salad. My taste buds did a delicate dance of a two- step of flavor when the first the first fork full hit my tongue.
I am not sure what makes the salad so delicious. But delicious it is.
I’ve found a recipe by The Pioneer Woman for my new favorite salad and I plan to make it as often as possible.

Good Morning, Abigail

High above the trees I want to see the sun stop and wink as it whispers Good Morning to the sky and kisses the clouds like coffee on my lips.
Good Morning, Abigail it’s a new day.

A Wrinkle In Time

I looked pretty cute and if I remember correctly I thought I was cute at the time too.
I loved library Wednesdays. Instead of spending time outdoors we went to the library to listen at storytellers and to check out books. I loved to check out books. I always considered it a privilege to get a new book to read each week. The smell of a newly acquired book still sticks with me till this day.
I was wondering around the library when I first saw it. I took it off the shelf. The cover was relatively new. I read the back cover and decided this would be the book I would spend a week with. The library allowed children to check out two books but this week I only wanted the one in my hand.
Sitting down at a table I began to read. “A Wrinkle In Time” by Madeline L’Engle. I would spend the next few hours enchanted and engrossed in what is still my favorite book of all time. By the end of summer I’d read all of Madeline L’Engle’s books.
A “Wrinkle In Time” changed my life. I learned to dream.
A couple of years ago my local library had a book sale and the first copy of “A Wrinkle in Time” that I ever read was being sold for a dollar. The book was very old and the dates that I checked it out were still stamped in the front.

My Keds

My teenage years have passed like the summer ‘95 but I still love Keds. Keds are one of my "almost secret" addictions that I feed each and every time I have a few extra dollars.
Keds aren’t to my knowledge sold in any of my local stores so I order mine from the Keds online store. Nothing beats the feeling I get from ordering a size 10 pair of Keds and waiting on them to arrive at my front door via UPS.
I always savor the moment the man in brown hands me my box. I usually spend a few minutes in sweet memories of the past when my Yia Yia (grandmother) would take my sister and I to the local Sears store to purchase three pair of Keds each.
Buying my sister and I Keds was a ritual that my Yia Yia established when the two of us started school. We each would receive one pair of red Keds, one pair of blue Keds and one pair of white Kids. After spending nearly half the day in Sears, where my Yia Yia ensured that our Keds were the perfect fit, Yia Yia would take my sister and I out to lunch and allow us to order our own meal.
I always smile and feel a little sad that my Yia Yia died long before she could celebrate the start of a new year with such a rich tradition with my own daughter.
My love of Keds is bound in the sweetest memories. Each time I purchase a pair of Keds and wear them I remember my Yia Yia.

Cake, Where Art Thou

There, I said it. I love cake. I have no shame in my love of cake. Marie Antoinette and I could have been great friends if she shared her cake.

Fantasy Vacation

When life gets hard take yourself away on a fantasy vacation.
When life comes at me fast I find myself taking a few minutes to enjoy the view. I love to travel and see the world. I have most fortunate to go to most of the places I only dreamed about as a child. I have seen Paris in the Springtime, Mount Rushmore in the heat of summer and Times Square with kids whose only purpose in life was to get lost in a large city.
I am a country girl. I grew up in the suburbs way outside the city limits and one would imagine that I would want to travel to the bright lights of the big city. Nope I like to imagine myself in faraway places enjoying the sun and the nature that surrounds it.
I often take fantasy vacations to Tuscany, Italy. I could see myself in a small house in Tuscany, Italy with a vineyard, a chef and the whole day to just enjoy life. Ahh the majesty of being a woman of leisure, with a chef, a housekeeper, and gardener.
I could have dinner parties in the moonlight and sip wine as I listened to Aretha Franklin and my grandchildren played in the vineyard. When life gets hard it’s nice to take a few minutes and imagine life away from all your troubles in place as beautiful as Tuscany, Italy.

I love strips. You could say I am a stripped kind of girl.

I love strips. You could say I am a stripped kind of girl.
If I had to make a fashion statement it would be in strips. I love strips. I am a plus sized chick but I can rock strips and make it do what it do in the words of Ray Charles.

Fashion, Who Am I?

Fashion, Who Am I?
I often wonder who I am when it comes to fashion. I am definitely a fashion plate or a clothes horse. Nor am I headed that way. While one can be anything they want to be when it comes to fashion, there is nothing wrong with wanting to look nice and have nice clothes.
I often find the nonsense associated with wanting nice clothes to be hypocritical and condescending. I want nice clothes and yes in some ways I want to be a fashion maven. By wanting these things it does not take away from my intelligence or ability to see other things in the world that need changing.
I often want to shake those who can’t see that it’s possible to be socially conscious and fashionable at the same time. It is possible to focus on Malaria in Africa, donate to earthquake and flood relief , collect coats for kids, feed the homeless and hungry, picket for higher wages and still want to have the latest fashion from France. There is no book that says to focus on anything other than social issues makes you the insensitive or unaware of the world you live in.
I love fashion and I love being socially conscious and see no reason why the two can’t be done together. ~Abby
