Happy #Falloween!

The Halloween season has arrived, so let's have some fun with a contest!

I'm giving away a $25 Amazon gift card and all you have to do to enter is show me your October inspired selfie to win.

You can go straight Halloween or you can post a fall related pic (leaves, football, PSL's, whatever suits your fancy as long as it doesn't get you banned from social media).

Post your pic in the Stargazers Squad on FB with the #Falloween hashtag so I can find it.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/TheSt...

I'll randomly draw a winner on Monday, November 5th.

Good luck and have fun!

Happy National Book Month!

#amwriting

Today, I'll be adding a few more words to #Constellation3, but I also want to take time to acknowledge our love of reading.

October is National Book Month - 31 days dedicated to the pleasure of reading and enjoyment of books. It's the perfect time to find out what your local schools, libraries, and literary hot spots are doing to celebrate our favorite hobby.

I'd love to see you share your book related events. Feel free to post pics or thoughts or memes anytime throughout October and beyond.

Congratulations, Morgan Locklear!

Today my husband and writing partner, Morgan Locklear, published his debut solo novel, Connection

This book is 5 years in the making for Morgan, and I've watched behind the scenes as he struggled with several drafts to create an unforgettable paranormal romance.

The published version is an amazing 5-star read. I'm so proud of him, and I hope you'll do yourself a favor this October by giving this phenomenal ghost story your one-click.

My Review:

Paranormal has always been a favorite genre of mine because there is a compelling experience for me as a reader when the average mortal faces a challenge from the supernatural. Having spent much of the past decade immersed in one vampire fiction after another, Connection offered a refreshing opportunity to settle down with a good, old-fashioned ghost story.

This book is the story of Olivia. We are introduced to her when she is a grade school aged girl, just as she realizes that she can see and interact with spirits. She quickly understands that the ability is unique to her, forcing her to straddle the world of the living and the dead all on her own. There are frustrating limitations with her ghostly interactions that ultimately drive her to avoid or ignore one spirit after another. Her ignorance and fear of ghosts is compounded just before her high school graduation when she realizes that the frenzied phantoms she’s surrounded by often steal from the recently deceased.

After several years of failing to find her place and purpose in life, Olivia decides to change her way of thinking. She moves to New York City, a metropolis absolutely teeming with ghosts. She rooms with another woman in Astoria, Queens and enrolls in NYU. During her daily commute into Manhattan on the N train, Olivia meets the man who will change the rest of her life. She learns his name is Patrick and that he was murdered on the subway twenty years earlier. He’s been trapped on the train ever since and happily embraces the opportunity to connect with another soul. Intrigued by the ghost’s charming personality, Olivia sets her lifelong aversions aside and befriends him. As her affection for Patrick grows, Olivia’s tentative hold on reality begins to loosen.

In addition to the intriguing plot and strong character development, I was drawn into this novel by the lyrical narrative and the vivid depiction of early 1980’s New York City. Connection is one of those rare books that elicits multiple emotions from the reader. The author has struck that perfect balance of humor, romance, suspense, and wonder. At its core, this story illustrates just how spectacular the human experience can be.

There are plenty of spoilers within the pages, none of which I want to share in a review, but I will say there are few books that bring tears to my eyes. Connection had me openly crying several times as I read it. It is a leading contender for my favorite read of 2018, and easily earns a 5 star rating from me.

Constellation #3

Yesterday, I added another 2,000 words to Constellation #3. Today, I'm aiming for another 3,000. It's an ambitious goal for the weekend.

So, what can I share about the new book?

Overall, I'm 13,000 words in so the beginning is well underway. Two new characters have been introduced. Kathleen has a new apartment in Portland. Allison has gone back to Baltimore. Ryan Murray has retruned to Oregon. Robert and Heide have been bonding. And Jack Evans went out for lunch one afternoon and ended up in a jewelry store. Because that's how Jack has always rolled.

There's plenty of new ground to explore and I'm enjoying the journey. The writing is going well, and I've booked my date with the editor. I'm looking at release dates and should be sharing that with you soon.

A Mysterious New Character ...

#amwriting

Since the release of Chaos, I've been working on a new story to pass along to my agent, Stephanie DeLamater Phillips. I have 10 chapters ready to go for her and today I'm going to sit down and write that dreaded synopsis for a two book project. I'm hopeful she'll be able to take those chapters and the outline and work her magic with this new series.

While it's true that this new story isn't the continuation of Jack and Kathleen's story, it turns out there is a connection to the Constellation series. I didn't know this when I began working on the manuscript, but when one of the characters unexpectedly whispered their identity in my ear I decided not to fight it. Truth be told, I'll think it will add a wonderful dimension to the new story.

Now that I've been able to scratch that plot bunny itch, it's time to get to work on #Constellation3. I don't have a release date yet, but I am aiming for late 2019.

Wish me luck!
