Adam Nicholls grew up in the southwest of England, where he studied creative writing while working a variety of full-time jobs. When his Mason Black series was first published, he quickly became a bestseller and then went on to create a name for himself in the thriller genre. Adam now lives with his wife in Bristol.

Hi Adam--as a crime writer maybe you can give me your opinion--I'm working on a book that is about a school shooting (common here in the U.S.) but I've heard friends say they would never read a book about that subject--the series is paranormal mystery and I'm not going into gruesome detail...(ghosts and so on will take over the plot line, I'm sure)what do you think?

Where I do enjoy a ghost story, I would personally steer clear of writing a story based on that sore subject. I think that, even if it were a masterpiece, people would find it controversial. Stephen king, for example, had a book called 'Rage' which was of the same subject. But after the recent attacks, he found that it was in poor taste and removed it from publication. For that reason, I agree. However, there are similar situations which may not offend or upset a reader so easily. Regardless of what you do, I hope it works out great. Best of luck.(less)
