Published… now what?

Now that I’m a published novelist, the most frequent question I’ve been asked is, “How many copies have you sold?”.

My answer to this is, “It’s not important… yet.”

Only an opportunist expects instant success. The more important question is, “What are you planning to do?”

If you set yourself a single goal, with an unrealistic expectation, you are going to be disappointed. If you already have the next goal in mind, well then you’re getting somewhere. So what’s the plan?

As you may have read, I beg...

Irradiated

01_Brandis_IRRADIATED_EbookEdition

Jade, a headstrong young woman, lives in an irradiated wasteland. She struggles each day to protect her younger sister Pearl, a sweet girl who was born mutated. Their life is tough, but Jade is determined to survive.

One day, Jade returns from a supply run and finds her sister missing. She knows one of two groups is to blame: the fascist society that lives underground, scorning the sun and all mutants, or a fellow scavenger on the surface, acting out of depravity or desperation.

Jade is will...

Progress Report: Irradiated to be published next week; 18 at #1.

Okay, y’all. Just a quick one this time. I’m starting to get pretty excited.

I received back the FINAL VERSION of Irradiated from my editor earlier this week. The second-pass edit and final proofread were pain free. It’s looking primed, polished, and ready to go. So why the wait? Well, I’ve sent it off for formatting. On Monday, I will have a crisp and clean eBook ready to upload. A mid-week release is looking most likely. I can’t wait.
I have almost finished writing the sequel, Degenerated . I...

Vision Anthology: 18

For a while now, I’ve been part of a writers’ group in my home town of Brisbane, Australia. This group is focused on Speculative Fiction, including Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror. It’s a very diverse group of fantastic authors, many who are beginning to make their mark in the literary world.

Today I’m happy to announce the Vision Anthology, simple titled 18:

Vision 18

Each story is based around the theme of ’18′. Why? Well, it’s quite simple. This year marks the 18th anniversary of Vision Writers. I...

An interview with Jason Gurley

As a writer, I’ve found reading has become difficult. It’s hard to switch off the writer part of my brain. Often, when reading books, I find I want to jump into the novel to edit and tinker (or, on occasion, slap the author). I’ve become a picky reader, and I hate it. It makes finding ‘the good stuff’ more difficult.

So, when I read Jason Gurley for the first time, I breathed a sigh of relief. He has a way with words. His prose is crisp and his stories are beautiful. I slipped into his worlds....

Progress Report: Irradiated back from editing.

Why, hi there.

I hope you enjoyed my interview with Michael Bunker. His novel Pennsylvania just came out, and is doing great. I have another interview coming up soon, with author and cover designer extraordinaire, Jason Gurley, so keep posted.

Now, I want to share with your some good news: Irradiated has come back from my editor, Felicia Sullivan, and the news is good. No structural editing is required — there are no changes to plot, style, characterisation, consistency, and so forth. Essential...

An Interview with Michael Bunker

One of the great things about indie authors is their immediacy, honesty, and accessibility. In the days of old, reading books was a solitary experience. Sure, you could feel an author’spersonality ooze through the pages of their novels, but at the end of the day they were just a concept, a name. These days, they have websites, blogs, and facebook pages. They answer emails and respond to comments, post on forums and share advice. Indie authors are at the forefront of this. They are actively emb...

Some notes: amish sci-fi, holding your breath, and 80%.

Things have been a tad quiet here lately. Regardless, there’s been a lot going on behind the scenes. I thought I’d share some quick notes with you.

I’ve recently done an interview with Michael Bunker, author of Pennsylvania — perhaps the worlds first amish sci-fi novel. Pennsylvania was originally released in five parts, and the omnibus edition is being released on April 29. My interview will be posted here on that date, so stay tuned!
I’ve set up another interview with Jason Gurley, another fa...
