When bliss feels impossible…

Reach out.
It’s possible to be in this world and not ruled by it. To get to this place I had to learn to look within, without staring. Slow learner that I am, this took years. It doesn’t have to. Befriend people who can help you reach for those higher perspectives no matter what. Along the way, what do you know?, those people shifted. It wasn’t a sign that something was wrong. Nope. Everything was working just right.

Let’s talk about sex(ual organs)

One of the grim realities of writing about women’s health is seeing how deeply we disregard it. This graf–which had to be cut for space from my piece about trying yoni eggs, those crystal inserts popularized by Gwyneth Paltrow–is just one.

The female reproductive system, where the vag looks like a penis. SOURCE: Wikipedia.

Did you know that searching the phrase “female reproductive system” does NOT take you to a Wikipedia entry? I had to search from within. I suppose this should come as no surprise with an Administration that is systematically removing women’s healthcare information from government websites. But again, digression.

Even the word “menopause” is hideous. As a heterosexual woman, I feel like it’s telling me something—men on pause. If I wasn’t angry enough thanks to being menopausal, the word pissed me off because it related yet another momentous occasion of my life to goddamn men.
