After Stories - Sector 29 Gurgaon
Just right next to the Powergrid office and backside of Iffco Chowk Metro station lies After Stories, in a comfortable and visible corner. It is a microbrewery offering some great Beer and drinks with great food.
I went there recently to meet a cousin over some drinks. The ambiance is quite warm and welcoming. The place has varied seating options from outdoors to basement or the first-floor brewery.
Ordered their famous Peach Beer which was awesome. The chicken popcorns are a must try. Thier specialty starter is Tawa Meat with bhuna masala served with crispy flatbread. This dish is cooked slowly over hours, making it a flavorful delight. For meat lovers, this dish is a must try.
Desserts
Chocolate& Walnut Brownie is good at this place but Chocolate Fondant is better. Both come with vanilla ice cream.

An Indian village demands a feast from a father of a raped, impregnanted minor
Great things happen in India everyday. Hidden in today's news in a convenient corner was a news which was appalling but not shocking at the same time. A village wants a feast from a father of a 9th class kid, who was raped by her headmaster.
We are talking about a village in Koraput district in Orissa, so the story might not be up to your #metoo style taste. Nevertheless, I got to tell it, and you should read it even though its not urban enough to cause a candle light outrage.
So the girl is a 9th class kid, raped by her headmaster. The administration of our democracy is for the people and by the people. After the father lodged an FIR saying that his daughter was both raped and impregnated by the school headmaster, the babus swung into action.
District welfare officer of Koraput Jagannath Soren has said that a report has found that it is a case of “illicit relationship” on the part of the headmaster and not that of sexual assault or rape.
Simple. Poor headmaster I say. I mean, so what? He liked his student, student liked him perhaps and they had sex. Headmaster got naughty, that's it. Its okay with the District welfare officer and we as taxpayers will pay for his salary and a raise (Lets increase those taxes) for admitting such reports. Must have been a difficult job for him.
Our society is supporting the family. The village wants a purification feast worth INR 30,000 plus for everyone from the father. I mean, only in India we can celebrate rape and sexual assaults and feast over it. I fail to understand, why the father, a laborer is refusing the feast. People might come with gifts and their children will learn a lesson not to get raped. "Look at this feast, if you get raped tomorrow, we will have to organize a gala affair too." They might teach their kids this.
It's a decent concept too. See, the government knows that rapes do happen. Instead of focusing on the tiresome job of prevention, they have set a fixed rate card. A scheme with a fancy name Odisha Victim Compensation Scheme, 2017 has fixed rape compensation to INR 3 lacs. Like, you get raped and sexually assaulted, we will give you INR 3 lacs. However, here since the headmaster just got a little naughty, no compensation might be paid. So ideally their shouldn't be a party for the village folks. But they have socially boycott the family for not throwing a party over their child's rape.
The district welfare officer, is obviously correct when he says to the media “As there was no sexual assault, we can’t recommend financial assistance. The district collector may decide on that.” Isn't it normal for children to have sexual escpades with their teachers or people in authority? The welfare of Koraput is in right hands I say.
Oh and did I tell you the girl is pregnant? Yeah. So good doctors and babus and the enlightened citizens of India have decided that girl should not go for abortion. She should give birth to the child and send the child to the school and pray that the child does not get naughty with another headmaster.
For this is what our society is best at. To pray!

How people ruined the beautiful festival of Diwali
Its not about religion, it is about environment and life. Sitting in their diesel guzzling SUVs and Sedans, honking horns, relentlessly people type on social media and mobile about the pollution level on Diwali. They even show concern for dogs and cats while parking that huge car in a place where once there were trees.
All that is acceptable to the hypocritical Indian, and it is only on Diwali, suddenly this wave of environment love is born. For the smoke and noise of crackers has ruined one of the most beautiful festivals of our country. The citizens are oblivious to the fact that the smoke and the sting is a sharp reminder of the fact, that how much we take our environment and nature for granted.
India has a remarkably great tolerance for environment degradation which is evident from a visit to any of our cities. You see mindless chopping of trees for that extra car, wall to wall roads for the traffic, sharp reduction in green areas so that our burgeoning population has some space to encroach upon and generally apathy to the place we live in.
Diwali was once a beautiful festival. Beautifully lit houses were a delight to watch. But now you got to lock yourself inside to prevent the massive pollution wreaking havoc to our adulterants rich fragile immune systems.
And it is not just about one day or one eve. It is happening albeit in smaller doses everyday. The government has encouraged diesel cars to a massive scale and industries are rarely incentivized to reduce pollutants during production processes. The governments become all the more helpless with social media people start associating pollution to religion.
I mean did Lord Ram alight from the Pushpak and said ' Let's pollute the environment mindlessly?"
In fact, a Ram Rajya would have kept citizens concerns above petty rockets.Burning chemicals just because you got the money and the thrill of destroying seems senseless and boring.
Add to that, the zeal of my fellow countrymen to destroy the nature, the environment, the very fabric of our living and you get one tragic story, where each character is thinking about how great they are and what good things they are doing. Especially by reproducing at a pace which will keep other countries far away from the most populous country title. That one would be ours.
We literally enjoy destruction. Like that phuljhaddi cracker on Diwali. Its called a sparkler in English I guess. People our joyous about filling lakes and ponds with rubble to build that extra tower. They are so happy to chop down jungles for another colony or a project. And their eyes gleam when they level down mountains and fell ages old Oaks for that extra parking space or another road.
No wonder then, the festival of lights, Diwali is now all smogged up. With the level of thinking and mindset of our society, the light part is clearly up in smoke or submerged in noise.
What do you think? Has the charm of Diwali faded for you? Or you think their is much more positivism around than those gifts and crackers at Diwali time?

Excuse Me Boss - Saket, Delhi
One of the coolest places to party in Saket is Excuse Me Boss, at the Metropolitan Mall, Saket district center. This was from a friend who loves all things party, so on my next visit to Saket, I decided to visit this place for lunch.
This place is located right on the ground floor of the Mall and is quite spacious. I settled in the lounge bar and was surprised at how reasonable the rates were. By the time I finished my meal, I was convinced, that this was indeed a great place to hang out, with top notch food, reasonable prices and great service.

Masala Library by Jiggs Kalra, Janpath, New Delhi
If you cross the Windsor roundabout on the busy Ashoka Road in India's capital and move towards the Janpath road, right next to Hotel Le Meridian you see a small building almost covered with big huge trees. On the ground floor of this building is situated one of Delhi's finest eating places - Masala Library by Jiggs Kalra, the only Jiggs Kalra branded restaurant in the region.
On a hot Sunday afternoon, I set out to discover this place and to understand and experience its food. For those who don't about Jiggs Kalra, well he is an iconic chef, one of the most well-known culinary experts in the country. His son runs the popular food brand Farzi Cafe and Masala Library besides other food outlets. Masala Library by Jiggs Kalra first opened in Mumbai in October 2013. Since then the brand has undergone various transformations and innovations.
The basic idea the team here has adopted is to look for basic Indian food and flavors and adapt them with postmodern and post molecular techniques. What you get is truly experimental and unique dishes which are so innovative, you might not even have heard or imagined them like this. Like the open-ended samosa or the slight madhur vada, each dish is well-crafted and thoughtfully designed and presented.
The best way to experience the culinary treat here is by going for the Chef's special tasting menu. It is a 19 course, extensive menu with inbuilt options for dishes (the initial snacks are fixed). It becomes all the better if you pair it with recommended wines for an additional cost. The wine collection is extensive and the sommelier picks up 6 fine wines to go with the food.
The Ala carte menu is an extension of the items on the tasting menu and can be tried by those in rush. For the 19-course tasting menu can only be relished, if you are ready to unwind, relax and leave the food and beverage decisions to the experts at ML.

Is victim shaming by Indian High Courts the right way to justice?
In a remarkable judgment, the Punjab & Haryana High Court have granted bail to three accused in a gang rape case of their university junior because the Court found the girl to have a promiscuous attitude.
The story goes as follows. On May 24, 2017, Sunita Grover, Additional District, and Sessions Judge sentenced three former law students of OP Jindal Global University at Sonepat, Hardik Sikri and Karan Chhabra each with 20 years’ of imprisonment and Vikas Garg with seven years imprisonment and holding them guilty of blackmailing and gang raping of a student of the same university for about two years.
On April 11, 2015, the girl had filed a complaint with the university that the law students had been blackmailing and raping her since 2013. She maintained that the accused had objectionable photos of hers which were being used for blackmail and forced physical relations.
In her judgement, Sunita Grover wrote “The WhatsApp chats running into pages is so abusive and vulgar that the extracts of the same cannot be explained and put into the judgment and what only can be concluded through the WhatsApp chat is that the prosecutrix (victim) was totally under control and dominance of the accused, Hardik.”
But the High Court disagrees. It says and I quote that all that happened due to "misadventure stemming from a promiscuous attitude and a voyeuristic mind". Many theories come forward in any rape trial. Especially if the background is an ultra expensive law school only few can afford.
We hear about false victim testimonies and undue pressures but this case is unique in many ways primarily because of the judgment of the Court. Victim shaming, as the term goes, in such an early observation by the court, when the hearing has only begun ( bail applications are considered first) clearly shows the Honorable Court's bias. The girl was 18 years old when she apparently started dating Hardik and about 20 when the complaint was filed. Her friend had informed her mother over the phone when she saw gradual changes in her.
By sending the three men to a psychiatrist so that they are free of their voyeuristic mindset shows a boy's only club attitude, that they are young and young men do have adventures. They have been sent to see a doctor for correcting their behavior aberration. INR10 lac each as compensation and off they go and enjoy life.
The High Court takes a contrarian view of the WhatsApp chat which the lower court found so vulgar and abusive. It maintains that the girl willingly sent her nude photos and used sex toys even though the lower court Judge pointed out that it was all done under the dominance of authority. Probably the Higher Court believed that seeing a doctor would make people send better WhatsApp messages. It is also imperative to note that this was a unique case also in a sense where the entire judgment of lower court was based on extensive digital data.
Again, the appeal that the accused have filed is pending before the court. And the courts have already made up their mind. I know that there is no justice in Indian society. I don't even know the complete story here. What I know is that you cannot just dismiss a girl's plea (take into account she was a junior student and the three her seniors,) just because she appears to be little adventurous and promiscuous.
Because if a gang rape did happen, can we justify it by the survivor's casual behavior? Do we really expect such words or sensitivity from our justice system? Let's say the girl was lying through her teeth. But the honorable court hasn't pointed it out yet, in plain speak.
What's your take on this?

7 Degree Brauhaus - Golf Course Road, Gurgaon
One of the most beautiful microbreweries I have been to, 7 Degree Brauhaus is located on the third floor of South Point Mall, Golf Course Road.
It has some pretty trees right in the middle with an island style bar and double height walls, giving it an expansive and lively look. The music being played was subtle and kept in the background.
One recurring theme I found in both the food and drinks is the quality of ingredients and substance in food is quite good. They use good quality ingredients and don't dilute or compromise on them.
What we ate
This place is famous for its German and continental cuisine. Although they do serve the whole Indian thing as well, it is highly recommended that you try their continental stuff, especially the sausages and the meats.
We ordered and loved
Grilled Fish Fillet - Fish grilled perfectly and served with potato fries
Original Bratwurst - German country style pork sausages. If you look at them they look stiff and hard but once you chew them, they are so juicy and yum that you would want more.
Braised Lamb Shank - Soaked in red wine sauce, this is served with mushroom sauce and asparagus.
Going with the whole continental theme, the desserts too are authentic in their presentation and taste
The volcanic choco lava cake was yum and so was the Amaretto Creme Brulee. But what stole my heart really was the Tiramisu. It was like a definition of how Tiramisu should be.
If you are heading to 7 Degrees you might wanna ask about their Beer ice cream which wasn't available at the time of my visit.
What we drank
This is one of Gurgaon's oldest and well-known microbreweries. If you love your Beer this place serves some very good brew. We ordered a lager and a Wheat Beer, and the quality was great.
Even the LIIT and the B 52 shot was very well made. This place has one good bar on which you can rely on easily.

Farzi Cafe - Cyber City Gurgaon
Farzi Cafe which set up shop at the Cyber Hub a few years back pioneered the concept of molecular gastronomy in Gurgaon. It's generally always full and a reservation is defdefinitelycommended before heading to FC.
Keema Kulcha with Mint Jalapeno
Dal Chawal Arancini
Grainy Mustard Fish Tikka - The best dish I found at this place came with its own barbeque set (coal lit).
Tempura Fried Prawns - with lemon air
Desserts
Ras Malai Tress
Chocolate Dome - A beautiful ball of chocolate with cashew nut mawa and a generous dose of Horlicks milk poured over it.
Ironically, even though the place is famous for its innovation with food, its the core Indian food which shines in this place.
