About LONG WAY HOME ~

Can she forgive the man who once bullied her,

and learn that love keeps no record of wrongs?

Having overcome the crippling insecurities of childhood bullying, Lauren Bauman is eager to start her new job 1,000 miles away, and road-tripping across the country with her brother Nate and his new friend seems to be the perfect way to celebrate the move. But her confidence is shaken when she meets Nate’s friend—the kid who’d bullied her years before, trapping her in a decade-long shell of self-doubt.

For Jet Wurm, losing his job and getting kicked out of his apartment were the best things that ever happened to him. Thanks to the friend who rescued him, he’s finally shedding the loser label he’d worn for years. Nate even invited him along on a cross-country road trip with his sister, and Jet couldn’t be more excited. But then he meets Lauren, and her fearful reaction tells him they must have met before. Where, he can’t recall, but he has no doubt he’d somehow hurt her—like he’d hurt so many others in his past. And now he’s stuck on a six-day road trip with a woman who obviously deplores him.

Though Jet is clearly not the same person who’d bullied her years before, Lauren still struggles to forgive him. But if she doesn’t find the courage to forgive, will that convince Ryan he’s as worthless as he’d always been taught to believe? Or will they learn that real love keeps no record of wrongs?

The Coming Home Series Continues! FREE Short Story

The Coming Home Series Continues!

Ever since I released Hungry for Home back in 2015, readers have begged for more from the Brooks family and from many of the secondary characters.

Well, I finally have good news for you!

While Richard and Sheila Brooks probably will not be the focus of any new story (unless God puts something on my heart, which is always a possibility), they will likely make cameo appearances. Instead, many of the secondary characters will be featured in their own books, each of which will be a standalone story.

The first story, Coming Home, is a short story and is newly available! You can download it for FREE if you subscribe to my e-newsletter. (My newsletter goes out about every two weeks.) If you already subscribe, check your email for my latest mailing which will provide instructions on how to receive your free book.

Coming Home, a Coming Home Series short story About COMING HOME ~

Who does a mom become when her children leave the nest?

For years Nancy Monroe has anticipated the day when she and her husband would have an empty nest, and they could at last focus on their relationship. Nancy’s also eager to return to the career that had been suspended when they’d had children. After twenty-five years of motherhood, she can finally be more than just a mom.

But then her husband, Paul, gets a promotion that sends him on the road, and Nancy discovers that careers for former full-time mothers are near-impossible to find.

She isn’t about to give up, though. And, besides, she always has her volunteer position at her church. They would never let her down.

Or would they?

you can purchase COMING HOME by clicking below.

Just for fun, I’ve thrown in familiar characters from Risking Love, a Where the Heart Is Romance #1, and from Stacy Monson’s Dance of Grace (Chain of Lakes Series).

LONG WAY HOME – Now Available for Pre-Order!

Long Way Home, my first release in The Potter’s House Books series, is now available for pre-order, and for only 99¢!

(Purchase here)

I’m thrilled to be part of this amazing group of writers as we all share stories of hope, redemption, and second chances. Every couple of weeks, a new story releases. They’re all stand alone stories and can be read in any order. Also, they’re all novella length, so it’ll be easier to keep up on all the books.

While Long Way Home is a standalone novella, you’ll also be re-introduced to familiar names from my Coming Home Series. To bridge the two series, I will be releasing a short story entitled, Coming Home, in the next few weeks, so watch this blog for further info. Again, you don’t not need to read my Coming Home series to read Long Way Home. It stands completely on its own.

Now, about Long Way Home—Here’s the back cover blurb ~

Heart Unbroken by Alexa Verde – 3rd Potter’s House Book Pre-Order

I hope you all enjoyed a blessed Easter with family and friends, celebrating the resurrection of our Savior, Jesus Christ! Several of our family members met at a restaurant yesterday rather than meeting in someone’s home. Talk about a no-stress event! No hours of preparation! No mess to clean up! It was definitely worth it!

And now that Holy Week is over, it’s time to get back to book talk. Last week Heart Unbroken by Alexa Verde, the 3rd book in The Potter’s House Books series, went up for pre-order. You may pre-order Heart Unbroken for only 99¢!

About Heart Unbroken ~

Can a widowed sheriff and a former drug addict believe

God has the power to mend all broken hearts,

even crushed ones like theirs?

Now a Christian, former drug addict Emma Hughes is back in the small town of Rios Azules. She’s desperate to regain the trust of the son she once abandoned and change her life. Meeting a vacationer, Rodrigo Ybarra, she fights her attraction to him. Even with her newfound faith, the risk of a relapse is too high.

On the two-year anniversary of his wife’s death at the hand of a junkie, Sheriff Rodrigo Ybarra comes to the ocean to mourn her. Romance is the last thing on his mind, but he’s drawn to a beautiful stranger who frequents the same spot. When he discovers her past could destroy his career, he struggles to guard his heart.

Then Emma’s life is threatened. Rodrigo won’t let her push him away or allow concern for his career to hold him back now. Will he once again lose the woman he loves? Or will faith and trust bring them safely to a future together?

About Alexa Verde ~

Counting on the Cowboy ~ Character Interview #Giveaway

Counting on the Cowboy by Shannon Taylor VannatterYou’ve all met my friend, critique partner, and award-winning author Shannon Taylor Vannatter before. She’s visited my blog several times with new releases, and the Queen of Cowboy Romance is back again, this time with Counting on the Cowboy! (Isn’t that cover gorgeous?!)

About Counting on the Cowboy ~

Ranching is his whole life… until he meets one special city girl

Texas Cowboy Brock McBride knows better than to fall for a city girl. She’ll leave and break his heart—just like his ex-fiancée did. But his job at Chasing Eden Dude Ranch requires working alongside Dallas wedding planner Devree Malone. And despite fierce resistance, he’s falling hard. Yet with Devree’s business back in the city, can he convince her she’s found her home…with him?

Get your copy now:  Purchase Counting on the Cowboy

To introduce us to the characters, Shannon asked her hero and heroine, Brock and Devree, a few questions:

Are you open to your own romance?

Devree: Romance is the last thing I want. I recently met with a bride to plan her wedding, but when the groom showed up, he was my boyfriend. And I mean was. His wedding got called off, by the way.

Brock: No. I don’t mean to speak ill of the dead, but my wife cheated on me. More than once. Besides, right now, I need to focus on my little girl.

What’s the number one quality you’d require in a mate?

Devree: I’m not interested, but I guess I’d have to say honesty.

Brock: Faithfulness.

What’s the number two quality you’d require in a mate?

Devree: Did I mention honesty. It would be very hard for me to trust again. If I could, and then I found out he was lying to me, I’d be shattered.

Brock: Someone who could love my little girl completely.

What’s the one habit or lifestyle that would make you run the other way?

Devree: Lying to me. I’ve had enough of that to last me a lifetime.

Brock: Unfaithfulness. I want someone who can love me and only me. And my little girl of course. If things were different, Devree would fit what I’m looking for, but I can’t tell her the truth about my daughter.

What would be a reason to end a potential romance for you?

Devree: If I found out he was lying to me. About anything.

Brock: Distrust. Although I feel like a heel for not being honest with Devree right now.

What would be the best gift a potential mate could buy for you?

Devree: I can’t be bought. A gift to me would be complete and total honesty.

Brock: Things that can be bought are temporal. I’m more interested in gifts like commitment and trustworthiness. Devree could give me that. But if she knew the truth, she’d hate me.

Getting to Know Michelle Griep

One of the greatest blessings of writing is meeting fascinating people, many through local writing groups, which is where I had the pleasure of getting to know Michelle Griep.  Not only is Michelle a gifted author, but she’s kind and smart and generous and funny and so much more, and I’m thankful to call her friend! Michelle has become a very prolific author over the past couple years. In 2018 alone, she has three books scheduled for release!

The first to release is The Innkeeper’s Daughter, which came out in February. Here’s the back cover blurb to pique your interest:

A London officer goes undercover to expose a plot against the Crown

The Innkeeper's Daughter by Michelle GriepDover, England, 1808: Officer Alexander Moore goes undercover as a gambling gentleman to expose a high-stakes plot against the king—and he’s a master of disguise, for Johanna Langley believes him to be quite the rogue. . .until she can no longer fight against his unrelenting charm.

All Johanna wants is to keep the family inn afloat, but when the rent and the hearth payment are due at the same time, where will she find the extra funds? If she doesn’t come up with the money, there will be nowhere to go other than the workhouse—where she’ll be separated from her ailing mother and ten-year-old brother.

Alex desperately wants to help Johanna, especially when she confides in him, but his mission—finding and bringing to justice a traitor to the crown—must come first, or they could all end up dead.

Michelle, can you tell my readers a little about yourself?

Buckle up, because here comes a wild ride of randomosities about yours truly…

I love an autumn day with falling leaves. Not the slap-you-in-the-face kind of brisk breezy type day, but the sort where you can wear a tee-shirt and jeans and rustle through those leaves, kicking up yellow and orange leafy fireworks.

A jar of freshly ground almond butter is one of my favorite treats, and just about as close to heaven as you can get here on earth.

If I could live anywhere in the world, it would be Ironbridge, England. It’s the shire on steroids. If I believed in reincarnation, I’d swear I’d lived there in a former life.

Lots of people are angry with Poldark for his indiscretion toward the end of season 2, but not me. I’ll defend that man to the end—even if he is fictional.

My dog, Miss Ada Clare, is a boxer and sometimes we dance together when no one is looking.

Writing is where I figure out all the answers to the questions I have about life.

What did writing this book teach you?

Writing The Innkeeper’s Daughter taught me to persevere. I started this book five years ago. Don’t panic. It shouldn’t take you that long if you’re writing a book. The thing is that I started it, then set it aside and worked on something different, hoping to find a genre that would be more marketable. Now and then I’d pull it out and add a bit more, then shove it back on the shelf and worked on something else. After years of doing this, my editor asked me if I had anything close to being done. I dusted off the manuscript, yet unfinished, and she loved it. Perseverance does pay off in the end…though how long it takes to get there is anybody’s guess.

What do you hope your readers take away from the story?

God is sovereign. He really is. No matter your striving, you cannot thwart His plans—which is both a comfort and a source of strife when things don’t happen “on time” or as we like it.

More about Michelle ~

Michelle Griep’s been writing since she first discovered blank wall space and Crayolas. She is the author of historical romances: The Innkeeper’s Daughter, 12 Days at Bleakly Manor, The Captive Heart, Brentwood’s Ward, A Heart Deceived, Undercurrent and Gallimore, but also leaped the historical fence into the realm of contemporary with the zany romantic mystery Out of the Frying Pan. If you’d like to keep up with her escapades, find her at www.michellegriep.com or stalk her on Facebook, Twitter, or Pinterest.

Spring Fever Giveaway – Final Day! – with Shannon Taylor Vannatter

Spring Fever Giveaway with Shannon Taylor Vannatter

(to enter, fill in Rafflecopter form below)

Today is the Final Day to Enter!

If you missed a Word of the Day,

see below for links to all the posts.

I had the privilege of meeting Shannon several years ago when she and I were new writers hoping to get published someday. We were placed in an ACFW critique group together, along with Lorna Seilstad and Jerri Lynn Ledford. Now Shannon’s published more books than I can count, and she keeps putting out stories romance readers love!

Her soon-to-be-released book, Counting on the Cowboy, will be another winner, I’m sure. Now just how does Shannon wrangle together all her characters? I’ll let her tell you:

Wrangling Devree & Brock

by Shannon Taylor Vannatter

Counting on the Cowboy by Shannon Taylor VannatterCounting on the Cowboy is the fourth and final book in my Texas Cowboys series. Completing a series is always bittersweet. I love my characters and hate to say goodbye to them, but I’m glad they all got their happily-ever-afters rooted in God’s love.

Devree Malone is so me, back when my parents moved from a suburb of Atlanta to rural Arkansas. I was twelve and it was major culture shock. The nearest neighbor girl my age lived a quarter of a mile away and I was used to neighborhoods. I hated all things farm. The animals were stupid, stinky, and kind of scary.

Though Devree is in her late twenties, this is the place Devree she’s in. She grew up in the country in Aubrey, Texas, but longed for city life. She fled for Dallas the first chance she could and built a successful wedding planning business. Though her professional life soared, her personal life didn’t.

What would get a genuine city girl to move to the country? Her sister. After a still birth last year, her sister is in the final month of her second pregnancy. A high-risk pregnancy with symptoms mirroring the first which ended in tragedy. Devree comes to her sister’s dude ranch in Bandera, Texas expecting to fill in as activities director, keep an eye on her sister, and plan one last wedding there before she revamps her business into event planning. Instead, she ends up decorating cabins with a handsome cowboy.

Brock McBride is running from his past and applies for the handyman position at the ranch where his dad held the job until his death. A city girl is the last thing he wants to contend with. Especially since his mom and his ex-fiancée both abandoned him. And both were city girls. When his job description gets tweaked, he gets stuck helping Devree prepare for the wedding and putting the finishing touches on the guest ranch’s newly built cabins. He loves the country. And she can’t wait to leave it.

Country life grew on me. I’m still not excited about farm animals. They’re still stupid, stinky, and slightly scary. I really hate cows after getting chased by one when I was nine, and one this past summer. And I really hate chickens after being forced to catch them in my teens. Horses are okay, but they’re really big and I like a fence between me and them.

But I love the peacefulness, hearing the frogs and crickets at night, and not having neighbors too close. The net says the population of our town is 586. I’m not sure I believe that. In 2000, it was under 100. We’re eight miles from a city of 7000. These days, that would be way too big for me to live in.

With Devree and Brock, I had to decide if she’d soften toward country life like me. Or if he’d be willing to follow her to the city. They were both stubborn, but it was fun wrangling them, and I hope readers enjoy reading their story as much as I loved writing it.

Counting on the Cowboy comes out on March 20. Check out that cover! Beautiful, isn’t it?
