Warm Up Your Winter

Snowed under and shivering? (Aren't we all?) SheKnows suggests you snuggle up with a good book -- and they put THE MAGICIAN'S LIE in that category. Wonderful!

See the full list of 10 books -- including Gayle Forman, Anne Tyler, Amanda Eyre Ward and more -- at this link.

Buzz Buzz!

Well, here's a place I never expected to see THE MAGICIAN'S LIE -- as one of the answers to a Buzzfeed quiz! I tell you, this publication ride is a strange and amazing roller coaster, every single day.

Popping up in the Washington Post

Oh wow! This one has me dancing around the kitchen. The Washington Post calls THE MAGICIAN'S LIE "spellbinding" and "atmospheric." And they mention Agatha Christie! Never a bad thing. Off to add it to the Praise page, wheeee!

Pick of the (Snowy) Week

Just got word that The Magician's Lie is the Pick of the Week in the Boston Globe. So it must be perfect to snuggle up with as the coming snowpocalypse approaches, right? Seriously, everyone stay safe in this heavy winter weather. Brrrrr.

At this moment my luncheon event in Connecticut is still on for Wednesday midday, but I'll update the Events page if that situation changes. Stock up on books and charge all your devices! See you on the other side of the melt!

Review roundup!

Back home now and get to stay here for, say, roughly 42 hours before I'm on the road again! But I got a nice dose of Friday cheer with an unexpected appearance in the Chapter & Verse feature at The Christian Science Monitor. They quote some of the book's great reviews, like the starred one from Publishers Weekly as well as the Indie Next honor and Library Journal. And I really like the part where they say "And for its next trick, the novel “The Magician’s Lie” by Greer Macallister just might become a hit." Here's hoping!

Great reviews, great reviews, great reviews, and also Kirkus.

The Amazing... You!

Oh, I just LOVE this. There's a great name generator on the Sourcebooks page for THE MAGICIAN'S LIE, so you can put in your own name and it'll tell you what your stage name is. So fun!

(I'm The Outstanding Dolabella, by the way.)

Take to the stage!

Dream Come True Alert: Shelf Awareness

It's been a great launch week, with good news every day, and today's is a excellent capstone for the week. I've been a big fan of Shelf Awareness for several years. It's a great source of information about publishing, bookselling, and the whole world of bookdom -- and in today's issue, I'm the Book Brahmin, answering all sorts of questions about my reading habits past and present.

And, no joke, I've been waiting for someone to ask me my favorite line from a book for years. You'll have to read the Q&A to find out what it is.

Find that answer, and all the others, here

What's The Big Idea?

The Big Idea is a blogpost series from awesome possum SF writer John Scalzi, where he welcomes other writers to his blog to talk about the inspiration behind their latest work. So I popped by to talk about why you never see female magicians cutting men in half, why research can be the enemy of writing, and other The Magician's Lie-related tidbits.

Head on over to Whatever.

I'm on the road!

On the road and in the air and across the tracks... yes, book tour has begun. And it started off right with an unexpected upgrade to first class. And also coney dogs in the Detroit airport, which I love. Kind of overwhelmed with everything going on, but this will be a great week meeting readers in my home state of Iowa as well as Chicago, where my publisher is based. Onward!

One more week...

Eek! Only one week until THE MAGICIAN'S LIE comes out! I heard it's been spotted on the shelves already at Costco, and shipping early from Powell's, but the "real" launch date is next Tuesday, January 13. Did you know in some cultures it's Tuesday the 13th, not Friday the 13th, that's considered unlucky? Well, thank goodness ours isn't one of them!

Two quick highlights that rolled in over the break:

TML was named one of "Three Books for a Long Winter Weekend" at Oprah.com. Seriously, just the word "Oprah" in association with my book gives me rolling goosebumps from head to toe. Oprah! I may faint. They call it "The mystery more bewitching than a crackling fire."There are only a few more days to enter the Sourcebooks giveaway at Goodreads -- nearly 1000 people have entered! That's pretty amazing! You should add your name to the list.

Cannot believe how much exciting stuff is happening around here. Next Tuesday seems very far away, but I bet it'll be here in a blink.
