first in their field

The Kate Warne Awareness Campaign continues! I wrote a brief summary of Kate's exploits for the Women's Museum of California. You can read it here.

Fierce Femme Friday

I love this new series on Creating Herstory celebrating fierce women of the past. And of course you know who my favorite fierce woman of the past is these days -- Kate Warne!

traveling without traveling this summer

Love this idea from BookPage -- "historical fiction for your staycation." As all readers know, good books help you go places without leaving your favorite chair! And of course I'm thrilled that GIRL IN DISGUISE is included as a recommended way to travel to 1850s Chicago.

Plus, the writeup is stellar. "Greer Macallister’s take on the life of Kate Warne, the first female Pinkerton detective, is a rollicking good time as well as an inspiring portrait of a forgotten American hero."

Here's the map for getting away without a getaway.

Summer Reading List at Bas Bleu...

For most of my teenage years, my mother and I would pass the Bas Bleu catalog back and forth, circling gift ideas for Christmas and birthdays -- for ourselves and each other. I was delighted to call her two years ago when my Sourcebooks sales contact told me that Bas Bleu would carry my first novel, THE MAGICIAN'S LIE, in their catalog.

I was even more delighted to call her today to tell her that not only is GIRL IN DISGUISE in the catalog this time around, it's one of just 12 Summer Reading List selections. Merci, Bas Bleu!

thanks, Chicago!

Just a super-quick post today: delighted that GIRL IN DISGUISE made the Chicago Public Library's list of June 2017 staff picks. Kate did some of her best work in Chicago, so it's simply perfect to have her story get some recognition there.

"Fans of 2015’s Girl Waits with Gun will devour this fast-paced combination of historical fiction and mystery, with a side of romance." Love it!

Get the full list of picks here.

get your #prefridayreads recommendations

If you're an avid reader and you also happen to be on Twitter or Facebook, you're probably familiar with #fridayreads. It's a handy hashtag to let people know what you're reading, and you can take a look at it to find out what other people are reading and get new recs for yourself.

The Tall Poppy Writers have taken it a step further with their #prefridayreads recommendations, so you can get a jump on getting a jump on the weekend. Fun!

(And I'm so honored that the lovely and talented author Nicole Baart picked GIRL IN DISGUISE as her recommendation!)

Get your reading recs here.

#independentseveryday

I've started a little Instagram project and am excited to see how many people I can get to join in. (You can also follow along on Facebook or Twitter, for non-'grammers!)

Every day between Memorial Day and Independence Day, I'm spotlighting an independent bookstore I love, with the hashtag #independentseveryday. Today's store, the first, is one I've loved for a long time -- Prairie Lights in Iowa City.

Been there, read there, bought the mug!

two months of Kate!

Well, GIRL IN DISGUISE has passed the two-month mark, and at the same time, it also hit 200 reviews and 600 ratings on Goodreads! Nice when these milestones cluster together!

A huge thanks to everyone who has read, shared, praised, discussed, and/or bought the book in these early days. It makes a world of difference, honestly.

If you haven't rated the book on Goodreads, you can do that right here.

Also, you don't have to buy the book from Amazon to give it a review there, so please consider that option as well!

Thank you, thank you, and again thank you. Writers have nothing to do without readers.

new interview at Spine Magazine

I love good book cover design, so it should be no surprise to hear that I love Spine, a magazine that focuses on book covers. They also interview writers about their process and practice -- of course I was tickled when they asked to interview me.

Here I am talking about my real life (so boring I can't write about it), my writing process (sloppy as all get out), and my next book (click on the article, won't you?)

The Greer Macallister interview at Spine.

follow me on BookBub!

I'm generally reading at least three books at once: one paper, one audio, and one e-book. I get a lot of my e-books from BookBub, and if you do too, here's a way to make sure you'll never miss a deal on a Greer Macallister e-book: "follow" me there.

Here's where you do the clicking/following thing.

My current e-book is for research, but here's what else I'm reading right now: CELINE by Peter Heller (we're on a panel together at the Gaithersburg Book Festival on May 20) and THE BOOK OF SUMMER by Michelle Gable (it just came out today!)

Read on!
