더라면 Hypothetical Past | Live Class Abridged

This past Sunday we did a live class on YouTube about an Intermediate level grammar form known as ~더라면.

We talked about what this form literally means, and where it came from. We learned also about the pieces of the form, ~더, ~(이)라, and ~(으)면.

And I did my best impression of Shaggy from Scooby Doo.

Fun Phone Number Combinations | Korean FAQ

Have you ever seen a phone number on a Korean advertisement and wondered if it had any hidden meaning? For example, if you saw the number 51 (오일) it could be the phone number for a gas station (meaning "oil"). Or if you saw a sign with 05 (영오) it might mean that place is an English language academy (영오 sounds like "영어" meaning "English").

These sort of numbers are valuable, and desirable to Korean businesses. They make it easier for customers to remember their phone number, and also can be fun to read and learn.

In this video I'll explore some of the most commonly used examples of this, what they mean, and how you can understand them.

This is lesson 70 out of a total of 100, so that means we're 70% finished with this course!

Hidden Meanings of Korean Colors | Korean FAQ

Just like English, Korean also has idioms related to colors. For example, in English we can say things like "he was green with envy" or "white lie" or a "black eye" or things like that. Korean also has idioms using colors to give them different meanings.

Billy Go’s Beginner Korean Course | #68: Using Things

In the previous lesson of this series we learned how (으)로 can be used to mean "toward."

In this lesson we'll learn how it can be used to mean that you're "using" something.

Remember that this series goes in order and will have 100 episodes when completed.

If this is your first time watching a video in this series, I recommend starting from the first episode.

Billy Go’s Beginner Korean Course | #67: Toward

Today's lesson is all about the particle (으)로. However, this particle actually has a large amount of uses in Korean.

The first usage of (으)로 that we'll learn is how it means "toward" when used with a destination (location).

And in the next lesson we'll talk about another important usage of (으)로.

Progressive Tense ~고 있다 | Live Class Abridged

Sunday during our live stream we learned all about the Progressive Tense.

The Progressive Tense is ~고 있다, and it's used to show several things.

It can be used to show an action that's happening currently, that's happening continually, or that's still in a certain state.

We covered all of these uses and more in the live stream, and I've condensed everything down to just 15 minutes for easy review.
