Twin Eidolons - Chapter 8

  I had blocked my husband's number on my phone four days earlier, when I arrived at my mother's place. Apparently Mom hasn't. After a dozen or so chimes from the doorbell, Mom answers her phone the first time it rings.  "What are you doing?" I yell at her agitated. "You know it's Daryl. Why would you answer?"  "You know he isn't going to stop until we listen to what he has to say." Mom points out. "If he still sounds like an idiot, we'll send him away for good."  "I don't know Mom." I say. "I'm a little confused about the whole situation. I don't want to talk to him right now."  While my mother has a conversation with Daryl on her phone, I think about what I want to do. I think about how we were before inheriting the house and all that money. We were happy then. I hope we can be happy again.  "Okay Mom. Let's hear what he has to say."  Without saying goodbye, Mom hangs up her phone, goes to the front door and lets in Daryl and Minister Wilcox from the First Haitian Baptist Church. The church I have been trying to get my husband to go to since we've been married.  As soon as Daryl sees me, he runs over, kneels down in front of me and tries to grab my hand. I refuse and pull away. He is stunned for a few seconds.  "Darling. Honey. Please forgive me." he says. Then turns around to look at Wilcox. Looking back at me he says, "I've been talking to your Minister the last couple of days and he advises me not to make excuses for my past transgressions, but to say how I feel about you and how I will change for our family's happiness. I love you Rose. I truly do. I love that we are going to have a baby together and I love the life we had before this whole inheritance thing happened. I'm sorry I got caught up in that whole nonsense. If it would make you happy, let's forget about the money and the mansion and just go back the way we were. Please dear? I love you"[image error]

Twin Eidolons - Chapter 7

  "Mom, what do you mean?" I ask her dubiously. "I don't understand you and I don't understand Daryl anymore. Why is this happening to me now? With the baby due in less than a month?"  She takes another sip of wine, looks at me with a wye smile and says, "Gold fever my dear. Your husband has it. As soon as he knew I was inheriting Jean-Claude's estate, I could see the gleam in his eyes. That kind of money changes people. You didn't notice because you love him. But you're a smart girl. I knew you would figure it out."  "Well I didn't." I tell her angrily. "The only thing I figured out is that he is a complete asshole now! What the hell is wrong with me? I'm going to have a baby with him!"
  "Nothing is wrong with you my dear." she says chuckling a little. "Until the heart can see the future of the person you fall in love with, love will always be blind. Blind to all the possibilities of how someone can truly be inside. I loved your father many times and I hated your father many times."  "What?" Tears start to flow freely down my face, yet I have to ask. "You hated Dad?"  "At times." she replies indifferently. "We had our ups and downs. All couples do. But my affection for him always came through in the end. You see, love is not a straight line. A continuous fairy tale of bliss throughout your life. It's like waves on the ocean. Your love can easily survive the small or medium size swells but when a hurricane hits, that is the true test of your love and your partner's love, for each other."  "Wow Mom. When did you become Buddha?"  "Ha ha ha," she laughs. Then after another sip of wine she looks at me intensely and asks, "What did Daryl do to have you run away from home?"  I wiped the tears off my cheeks and say in earnest, "Its just the way he is talking about things lately. How morbid his thoughts are and your right, it's how he thinks he deserves that money."  With the look of a predator she asks, "Did he hurt you?"  "No. He just upset me and the baby by being so inconsiderate to our needs."  "Are you sure my little flower?" She asks me demonically. "You wouldn't lie to me, would you? To protect him?"  "Mom! Now you're scaring me and the baby. You haven't used your pet name for me since I was a little girl. When you thought I was lying about something and wanted me to tell you the truth." I take a deep breath while looking at her. Then, on the verge of screaming, I say loudly, "Stop it!"
