hill booksWriter and NASA engineer Terry R. Hill joins me on the show today.

Terry R. Hill, a Texas native, was trained with two degrees in aerospace engineering. He has worked for NASA since 1997 with a very satisfying career as an engineer and project manager spanning programs from the international space station’s navigation software, to next generation space suit design, to exploration mission planning, to mitigating the health effects of space on astronauts. The Author Stories Insider

insiderIt’s been my distinct pleasure to host the Author Stories Podcast, and to bring you quality content each week. I hope to continue bringing you the story behind the stories, and the storytellers for years to come.

Producing a podcast like this each week takes a great deal of time, effort, and resources. To offset some of that, and to ensure that I can carve out the necessary time for preparation, recording, and production, I have created the Author Stories Insider.

The 5 most current episodes of Author Stories will always be free to download or stream. What the Insider gives you is access to the full archives of the show. One listener called the podcast “a master’s degree level course in the creative process.”

As well as access to the archives, you will get access to shows two days early, as well as have full access to episodes on youtube. Members will also get exclusive access to occasional perks from author guests, exclusive giveaways, and more. As we add features, members will automatically have access to the newest content and perks. If enough people subscribe, I’ll also be able to consistently be able to bring you multiple shows per week.

I appreciate your willingness to support the show, and to help me keep the show growing and expanding in new ways.

Access to the Author Stories Insider, with over 100 hours of quality content and more being added each week, is only $9.99 per year. Sign up to get started today.

Episode 90 : Geeks of a Certain Age

This week I wanted to introduce the Author Stories audience to a new podcast that I’m hosting with my friend Chris Pourteau. Chris had the idea for this show a few months ago and we’ve been working behind the scenes ever since to put together something that allows us to hang out and share with each other (and you, the audience) things that we love.

We both are geeks, and connected with the sense of nostalgia that Ernest Cline so deftly brought to the surface with Ready Player One. We hope you will join us each week on Thursdays for Geeks of a Certain Age. Find the show at geeksofacertainage.com.

Episode 89 | Arwen Elys Dayton Interview

arwen books

Today I interview Arwen Elys Dayton, author of Seeker, Traveler, and Resurrection.

From Arwen’s website: Arwen Elys Dayton spends months doing research for her stories. Her explorations have taken her around the world to places like the Great Pyramid (which she explored by a single fading flashlight when researching Resurrection), Hong Kong and its many islands, and lots of ruined castles in Scotland. She enjoys creating complete worlds inhabited by characters who charm, frustrate or inspire.

Arwen lives with her husband and their three children on the West Coast of the United States. You can follow her @arwenelysdayton on Twitter and Instagram, or reach her by email at arwenelysdayton@gmail.com.

Episode 88 | Chris Fox Interview From Writing Habit to Writing Career

chris fox booksChris Fox is a writer of paranormal fiction and non-fiction alike. Chris has an awesome story that he shares with me today of how he went from having a writing hobby to having a full time writing career.

Chris is about to begin a 21 day writing challenge where he will demonstrate, live in front of the world, how his principles work. From his website:

Do you think it’s possible to write a full length novel in 21 days? What if I said you didn’t have to just write it, but you also needed to do a full edit in that time? I’m betting many of you would call me crazy.

Many of those who do believe it’s possible would claim that the resulting novel would be terrible, and would need extensive edits before it saw the light of day.

I’m here to prove both groups wrong. Want to follow along? Sign up Here.

.

What is the 21 Day Novel Challenge?

5000-Words-per-hour-300x200Using the principles taught in 5,000 Words Per HourI’ll write a 70,000 word novel, then edit the resulting draft exactly once. After that the book is considered done.

I won’t be using a developmental editor. I will not be sending the book to beta readers.

I will send the manuscript to a proofreader, fix whatever typos they find, and then publish the book on Amazon.

Each day I’ll post a video showing my progress, complete with screen sharing. You’ll get to see my Scrivener project. Everything from plot notes to chapter headings are laid out for your inspection.

You’ll see every part of how a I write a novel so quickly, and learn why that novel will be a book readers enjoy.

.

Writing to Market

Write-to-market-300x200Writing a novel in 21 days is awesome, but what about selling the thing when I’m done? Will my challenge novel sit there at rank #2,000,000, or will readers actually buy it?

I’m betting they’ll buy it, because I’m writing this novel to market, just like I teach in Write to Market .

My goal is to launch the book into the top #2,000 on Amazon, and have it stay in the top #10,000 for the first thirty days. That’s a bold claim, and you’ll get to watch live as I either pull it off or fall on my face.

What will I be Writing?

Most people say that Romance is where it’s at if you want to be successful as an author. I’m going to do it with Science Fiction. My novel is entitled Destroyer, and fans of Battlestar Galactica or Mass Effect will love it.

GIVEAWAY!!! Chris has offered an ebook copy of all three of his writing books, Write to Market, 5000 Words per Hour, and Lifelong Writing Habit. All you have to do is share this episode on your social media, blog, online forum, or where ever you interact with people. Share in the comments of the show that you did and you’ll be entered in the drawing. Each separate platform that you share on enters you another time in the drawing.  A winner will be picked at random on Friday February 26.
