“What this world needs is for somebody to make the first step and forgive. Love is what’ll change the world. Not more fighting and killing.”

“Do you know what’s beautiful about being human? Being able to see other people that are hurting and getting to share their hurt.”

“I went to him and asked him if he knew how much he had hurt me. He laughed and said he didn’t know what I was talking about, so I started going down a list of reasons that I was angry with him. He just looked at me with smugness and told me that it was the hand I was dealt, if I didn’t like it; I would just have to get over it. I told him that I was trying to get some things settled in me and that I needed him to see what the problem was. He said that he didn’t feel like he had done any wrong. I felt angry. I felt sad. But I also felt courage. I felt courage because I realized at that moment that no matter what had happened in the past, it did not have to control my future. I told him I was sorry to hear that he felt that way, and I told him goodbye. I did not grant him forgiveness, because he didn’t ask for it. But I did release him from controlling my thoughts. I released him from holding power over me. I let him go in my heart and mind that day. I would not forget the pain of the past, but I would not take it into the future anymore.”
