Sunday Inspiration: To Give A Gift
“When you give a gift at Christmas and see the smile of the people you love reflected in their faces, that’s magical. It is not about spending a lot of money or buy a gift that is functional, it’s just a way to say I love you. Christmas is a symbol of union and joy, Christmas is forgetting self and finding time for others.” – Betty Poluk

Sunday Inspiration: Happy Hanukkah!
“At this time of year,
when the sun is most hidden,
the holiday of Hanukkah
celebrates the rays of hope and light.
Often, it is through simple and unrecognized miracles
that we are able to feel
the warmth of hope and light.”
-Rafael Goldstein

Sunday Inspiration: The Small and Simple
“We think it is the big moments that define our lives —
the wedding, the baby, the new house, the dream job.
But really these big moments of happiness
are just the punctuation marks.
The narrative is written every day
in the small and simple.”
-Sarah Ban Breathnach

Sunday Inspiration: A Mature Person
“A mature person is one
who does not think only in absolutes,
who is able to be objective
even when deeply stirred emotionally,
who has learned that there is both good and bad
in all people and in all things,
and who walks humbly
and deals charitably with the circumstances of life,
knowing that in this world no one is all knowing
and therefore all of us need both love and charity.”
~Eleanor Roosevelt

Sunday Inspiration: Let us give thanks
Let us give thanks for a bounty of people:
For children who are our second planting, and, though they grow like weeds and the wind too soon blows them away, may they forgive us our cultivation and fondly remember where their roots are.
Let us give thanks:
For generous friends … with hearts … and smiles as bright as their blossoms;
For feisty friends as tart as apples;
For continuous friends, who, like scallions and cucumbers, keep reminding us that we’ve had them;
For crotchety friends, as sour as rhubarb and as indestructible;
For handsome friends, who are as gorgeous as eggplants and as elegant as a row of corn, and the others, as plain as potatoes and as good for you;
For funny friends, who are as silly as Brussels sprouts and as amusing as Jerusalem artichokes, and serious friends, as complex as cauliflowers and as intricate as onions;
For friends as unpretentious as cabbages, as subtle as summer squash, as persistent as parsley, as delightful as dill, as endless as zucchini, and who, like parsnips, can be counted on to see you throughout the winter;
For old friends, nodding like sunflowers in the evening-time, and young friends coming on as fast as radishes;
For loving friends, who wind around us like tendrils and hold us, despite our blights, wilts, and witherings;
And, finally, for those friends now gone, like gardens past that have been harvested, and who fed us in their times that we might have life thereafter;
For all these we give thanks. Amen.
I wish all a Thanksgiving week of joy and gratitude.

Sunday Inspiration: Natural Gifts
“If each person has natural gifts and innate talents,
Then the true nature of education
Must involve the awakening, inviting, and blessing
of the inner genius
And unique life spirit of each young person.

Sunday Inspiration: Keep Hope Alive
“Somehow we must keep hope alive –
a hope that we can find a way
to educate all, alleviate poverty, assuage anger,
and live in harmony with the environment,
with animals, and with each other.
-Jane Goodall

Sunday Inspiration: I like living
“I like living.
I have sometimes been wildly, despairingly,
acutely miserable, racked with sorrow;
but through it all I still know quite certainly
that just to be alive is a grand thing.”
-Agatha Christie

Sunday Inspiration: “I like nonsense”
“I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells.
Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living.
It’s a way of looking at life
through the wrong end of the telescope.”
― Dr. Seuss

Sunday Inspiration: “We belong to each other”
it is because we have forgotten that
we belong to each other.”
-Mother Teresa
My heart goes out to all those who are suffering in Israel and Gaza. I can’t imagine what it’s like to live on either side of this huge divide. The political issues are complex, but no matter our politics we belong to each other, no matter our nationality, religion or the color of our skin. There is no “them.” There is only we.
