Blue: Drawing Dragons Day 225
My mom’s favorite color is blue. So when she loved yesterday’s dragon, I colored it blue. Because she is great.
Keep creating,

Wings of Fire: Drawing Dragons Day 224
When Wonder has a choice, all reading involves pictures. For a while, he traveled out of picture books and into middle readers, but then he found graphic novels, and now he’s back in again.
And I love it.
He’s so lucky to grow up in this time of reading possibility. Middle grade and graphic novels are exploding; I’m happy to share the bookstore aisle with him.
We just picked up the Wings of Fire graphic novel. I’ve seen the books, but the images are fantastic, and I love the details defining the dragons and their different personalities.
So here’s an homage to one of those dragons. I love the scales on its face, though I took my liberties, as you will.
I hope you find a good book today too.
Keep creating,
Kate

The last mistakes: Drawing Dragons Day 223
We take our time, working toward the end of a project. We see the final pieces coming together, taking shape, falling into place. We smile. We see the final steps that will take us to the end.
But in those final moments, we falter, we fall. We cannot believe our mistake, cannot understand what we did; why we rushed it. Why we failed.
We reach the end in a sigh, but riding a wave of discontent, like the smudge on a dragon’s eye.
But we know the end is never finished, the story never complete. And the characters we create, well, they have stories of their own.
Keep creating,
Kate

Sea Dragon: Drawing Dragons Day 222
Some days we slide through. The water is warm and easy and doesn’t scald our skin. We stay beneath the surface of the day; we don’t even notice the push of the water against our skin.
Keep creating,
Kate

Not A Dragon: Drawing Dragons Day 221
Yep. Here we go again. This is clearly not a dragon.

Candy Eye: Drawing Dragons Day 220
I see you there.
Your eyes are glazed
With possibility.
Your mouth watering
With chance and time.
How sweet the longing.

These dragons: Drawing Dragons Day 219
These dragons, their feathers turned to scales. You see them light the sky and for a moment, you wonder how the wind must carry them.
Shine on,
Kare

Chimera: Drawing Dragons Day 217
These days go by too quickly, slipping away from me. I sketch in the shape of a leg, and linger on a smile. We can be so much more I think. But sometimes, I don’t know how.
Keep creating anyway,
Kate

The start of something: Drawing Dragons 216
Sometimes the start of something can seem so refreshing and new. The turn of a phrase that leaps from a page, the flicker of a character’s eyelash, or or the sound of a particular strain. We here the call and we are off. Sometimes, the story lives up to the flash or the spark. Sometimes the story comes to life.
And sometimes, it turns dark, or fades — incomplete.
But still, we tell the story, because we know that there is something in that flicker that must be told. And even if we fail, we try again.
Here’s the start of my story today:
Where it ended is not where I intended, but that doesn’t deny the journey.
Keep creating,
Kate
