What I Want: Drawing Dragons Day 245
What I want is to draw a dragon reaching for the stars in an unapologetically big and beautiful way.
What I get, well, that may be a different matter entirely.
Keep creating,
Kate

Ready for my close-up: Drawing Dragons Day 244
I have a story that I want to tell. It’s big and it’s beautiful and it says just the thing I’m trying to say. But I can’t get a hold of it. It’s like a whisper on the other side of the room, a sound I know but can’t trace the edges of. It’s the one I’ve been feeling, working, writing, and wondering about.
I’ll get to it. I will. But for now, I’m focusing on the things I can see; the ridges on the dragons’ back, the way it curves in the light.
Keep creating,
Kate

Waiting: Drawing Dragons Day 243
There was a friend who had big ideas. She knew her friends would arrive soon. So she waited patiently to share all her big ideas.

Bigger every day: Drawing Dragons Day 242
Bigger every day…
But still little enough to hold in my arms.

Almost home: Drawing Dragons Day 241
We are almost home, flying back from Illinois. We saw our friend’s little dragon, a tiny baby boy. Still looking wide-eyed at the world. Smiling up, making you smile down.
I wish you the kind of friends and the kind of days where you can’t help smiling down too.
Keep creating,
Kate

Hotel: Drawing Dragons Day 240
We are in the hotel in Chicago, ready to head back home. My seven year old is sound asleep, and my head is still spinning from a day of running and moving and driving and goodbye-ing.
So often, the goodbyes happen in a hurry. In the after, we have the quiet, and all the ways we wish we’d said the things that rushed from our lips.
Goodbye. I love you. I’ll miss you. Things take longer when you’re gone. My dragons go unfinished.
Keep creating,
Kate

Easy Chair: Drawing Dragons Day 238
A few more days of vacation, sitting in the easy chair. This dragon still needs a bit more work.
I was trying to draw him from up above, but I am going to need to look into that one a bit more.
Until then, keep creating,
Kate

From the side: Drawing Dragons Day 237
We come from the side, necks stretching round, these dragons they do not suspect. We wear our masks. We hide in plain sight. We’ve pasted them on so long that we’ve forgotten the feel of our own faces, but we remember the roar. And the fire.

Kate

Sweet to scheming: Drawing Dragons Day 236
Just like my sweet seven year old, this dragon went from sweet to scheming in the blink of a dragon eye and the snap of a claw. He’s little, but he’s got BIG plans. Be prepared.
Keep creating,
Kate
