Still no pencil: Drawing Dragons Day 292
I’m in Colorado, at the Sirens, women in science fiction and fantasy conference. It is amazing.
But Thursday, I took a break, hiking with my friend Jenny, up the slopes and down again, seeing where she grew up and breathing hard into the cool mountain air.
She showed me her home, but she also showed me what it means to care for someone in the face of difference.
Her heart is as big as a dragon.

Pizza: Drawing Dragons Day 290
I’m at Sirens, this amazing conference for women in science fiction and fantasy. After a morning of workshops and writing, we sat down for pizza at this perfect little place.
The tables were covered in paper, so out came the crayons. I used to draw a tree as my standby, or maybe a flower.
Now, I’ve got dragons. And after more than 10 months, I can sketch one out and, well, it actually looks cute.
So I gave him crème brûlée.
