Smith ruled Lauderdale County on the north side of the Tennessee River, and Ragland did the same in Colbert County to the south. They succeeded but not without costs. Democracy is gone. The Smith Ascendancy in Lauderdale and the Ragland Ascendancy in Colbert dictated the leaders since the apocalypse, and a falling-out between the two ruling families led to a series of devastating wars leaving the occupants of the “Spared Territory” divided and hate filled.
Early attempts to venture out in the “Old World” failed. Sheltered behind their walls, theLauderdales and Colberts compete for dwindling resources. Most recently, the two principalities are embroiled in a deadly dispute over control of Wilson Dam and its considerable yield of hydroelectric power. The Colberts have a larger population, deeper agriculture, a basic monetary system, and quite the industrial base. They feel entitled to a greater share of the dam’s output due to their economic progress and larger population. The Lauderdales are fewer in number, operate financially on a complicated barter system, and have a warrior mentality akin to ancient Sparta. The Colberts came up short in two prior invasions across the mighty river. Lauderdale strikes first this time; young Henry Wade Smith V (Harry) assumes the presidency after his father’s passing and takes Lauderdale to war the day of the state funeral. He commands from a painstakingly preserved Humvee designated Slingshot 8.

Weekly Author Update
Weekly Author Update:I know Wednesdays aren't normally the days I do this. Sundays and Mondays are, but my FIL was in the hospital most of last week, and we brought a stomach bug home with us. So fare, today is the first quiet day I've had in about ten days. I fully expect things to tits up soon, but for now, I'm enjoying it and taking the time to leave you guys a little update.I did get an amazing cover for Shore Haven from the wonder Lynn Lamb the week before my FIL went into the hospital. Since Shore Haven is still in editing, I'm not ready to reveal the cover just yet, but whenever I'm able to start sharing excerpts from the novel again, the graphic she created for me for the excerpts will have something from the cover on them.That's all I have to report writing-wise.My FIL is doing better, but I think we'll be going to hospice soon. If not now, within the next six months to a year.My MIL also has a fracture in her spine, so she's looking at having to have surgery. I honestly don't know how much I'm going to get to in the months ahead, but I promise to do as much as I can and keep you all posted about it.I would also appreciate if you all would keep spreading the word about the novels of mine that you love. I'm not able to do much advertising at the moment. Weekly Writing Update
Weekly Writing Update:I won't lie. I don't have much to update. I've mostly just been running Grammarly through Shore Haven or it through Grammarly, however that works. I've written a little in the way of reworking a few sentences, but not much.My neuropsychologist wants me to start writing about my life as a caregiver, so I have done a bit of that. Right now, it's just for me, but I might think about starting a blog somewhere with it. I don't know much about creative non-fiction or blogging, so if any of you have any pointers, by all means, share them. I'm back on some meds, but I'm on some very low dosages, so I don't know how well they'll help. Today has been a highly frustrating day, and they haven't helped much. Sigh.
I've contacted the lovely Lynn Lam about doing the cover for Shore Haven. At some point this week, I'll be emailing her the book's information. Wish her lots of inspiration.
