1-Year Anniversary
I can hardly believe it but as of tomorrow, my book will have been released into the world for one full year. It's my anniversary! Wow.
The past year has been chock-full of love, learning experiences, and wonderfully inspirational people who have encouraged me, supported me and expressed their appreciation for the book.
I'f you've read "How to Live Your Passion & Fulfill Your Dreams," I'd love to hear from you and how it may have impacted your plans moving forward. If you've not yet read it, I'd appreciate your consideration of it in paperback or Kindle.
With Gratitude,

Bucket List
My friend Seth is going to the World Series. He’s ecstatic. He called yesterday to talk business, but what he really wanted to tell me was that he was going to watch his team, the Kansas City Royals, from right field of his home stadium. He really couldn’t believe it was happening to him. Going to any World Series, he said, was on his sports bucket list. Not his general list. His sports bucket list. I didn’t know you could have niche lists in the bucket list department, but there you go.
The Burren
Which got me thinking. Hmm… I don’t have a general bucket list, let alone niche lists broken down into categories. I keep lists about what I want my life to look like, for sure, but had never actually titled one a bucket list, the list of things to do before I die. Lots of folks talk about bucket lists, but, for some reason, I’ve resisted the urge … until now. So, here goes.
Walk the red carpet in Hollywood: Yes. Did that one. I wrote a screenplay for a short film called Tacklebox some years ago. The film screened at a film festival at the Egyptian Theater on Hollywood Blvd. I walked down the red carpet, was interviewed for television, and yes, there were paparazzi.
Write a book: Did that one, too, earlier this year. How to Live Your Passion & Fulfill Your Dreams is out there in the universe, and on Amazon, spreading its positive message to all who turn its pages. I am truly proud of that accomplishment.
Travel to Ireland: Not yet. I’ve always felt the pull of the Emerald Isle. I want to dance a jig in a pub, kiss the Blarney Stone, tour the Guinness factory in Dublin, play hopscotch on the craggy rocks of the Burren, and hear my footsteps echo on the well-worn cobblestone streets of my ancestors. Now that I live in the Pacific Northwest, where the weather is pretty much the same, the urgency is not as immediate. Which leads me to …
Sip a fruity drink with an umbrella sticking out of it on a beach in Hawaii: My friend, Tracy, and I did this earlier this year, too. She took me as her guest, we had a blast, and I will be forever grateful. I would like to expand on this item to say that I want to luxuriate on that beach for a week beside my husband. We’ll do it soon, I promise.
Experience motherhood: Though I’ve not given birth, I’m stepmother to my husband’s delightful daughters. Our oldest, Kimry, lives with us and I have the privilege of being in her life on a daily basis. What a gift.
Be fabulously wealthy: Come on, you do, too, right? I want to own my own airplane so that I can send it to pick up my family and friends from around the country to visit me at any time. I want to live in abundance and share it with those close to me.
Climb a rock wall: I’ve not yet attempted, this and I know I’m nowhere near the shape I’ll need to be in to do it well. Yet. Still, every time I see that two-story climbing wall in the window of the REI store in downtown Seattle, I feel inspired rather than intimidated. That’s got to mean something.
And that’s it. That’s the list, as far as I can take it today. Perhaps tomorrow or the next day, there’ll be other items.
Do you have a bucket list? If so, what’s on it? What have you done so far? What’s left to experience? Please share your thoughts, and share this blog. I think it will be fun to read what goals and aspirations you dream about. Life’s short, baby. Let’s make it really worthwhile. Make a list.

5 Ways to Be Happy Now
I recently wrote a guest blog for Spin Sucks, (as in media spin), a nationally recognized blog for communication professionals—writers, public relations practitioners, advertising folks. Though the blog was geared to that community, the message is universal. Everyone wants to be happy in their daily lives. Not everyone is. The point of my article was this: Rather than looking to outside sources to find a bit more happiness in your life (such as earning a promotion, landing a new client, or winning the lottery so you can ditch the day job), I recommend five steps you can take now to promote happiness for yourself in your own daily life. To read the full blog post, please Click Here to visit Spin Sucks.

A Concert in Your Living Room
The first time I heard about house concerts, I was in a panic. I’d just learned that my favorite singer, Antje Duvekot, was coming to Seattle, and I had a conflict on the night of her show. I checked her website calendar and read that she was also playing a “private show” in Seattle that same week, so I reached out to the person hosting it. Turns out, the night before she was scheduled to sing on a big stage, she’d perform in the living room of a private home. Only 50 seats were available. And I scored two of them!
The night of the show, I drove into a lovely neighborhood, climbed stone steps leading to a stately Craftsman-style home, and sat in the first row, some three-feet from Antje as she sang my favorite songs. The show opened with a newcomer on the Seattle folk scene, a young singer-songwriter named Alice Howe. When Antje asked Alice to join her to sing harmony on “Vertigo,” the room was electrified as every soul there knew instinctively how privileged we were to witness, and take part in, such an intimate experience.
And now, you can, too.
House concerts are a growing trend in the music industry. Touring artists often bookend high-profile shows with boutique clubs or in-home performances. It’s a way for them to connect with fans more directly, and to make a bit of extra cash while on the road.
The host that night in Seattle was Bill Lippe. After 30 years as a research scientist, he found his true passion as a house concert promoter. Bill and his wife have been hosting house concerts for a decade. Following the show, I talked with Bill about house concerts. I’m so fortunate to be able to say that he, and Alice, both agreed to be guests on my show, Live Your Passion TV. We broke the interviews up into a four-part series. In the last segment, Alice Howe sings two of her original songs. I was so taken with Alice, and Bill, and the whole idea of house concerts that my husband, Rob, and I have decided to host one of our own. Headlining will be Alice Howe!

How to Meditate
I remember the first time I sat in meditation at the Chopra Center in Carlsbad, California. I had just been given my mantra, ( a sacred word that you repeat over and over in your mind). I was so excited! I was about to begin my training! So, heart pumping, I opened the door to the mediation room. And there, a group of about six men and women sat on woven rugs and pillows on the floor in a circle. The light of the warm California sun shined in through the window. A long rope attached to a bell hung from the ceiling. I found a spot on the floor, folded myself cross legged, and eager to begin my meditation journey, closed my eyes.
Nothing happened.
I expected a great communal hum, a chanting, a shock of lightening. Nothing. It was just me and six other people sitting quietly in a room, all alone. I tucked my disappointment into my pocket, and trudged on. Quietly. Sitting. Repeating my mantra. What I soon realized is that meditation is not about communing with others. It’s about communing with yourself. That’s not to say that a room full of experienced meditators can’t levitate or shift the earth’s energy at it’s axis. That probably can happen when enough people are concentrated on sending energy out into the same space.
But for an inexperience meditator, one who has considered meditation and not yet tried it, or has dabbled but not yet dedicated oneself, meditation can be daunting. Sitting quietly for a half hour with nothing to do but listen to your own breath takes practice. The joy comes later, once you achieve comfort. Some days are buoyant. Other days are bogged down. Every meditation session is different because the version of you that you bring to that mediation is different.
Believe me, though, it is worth the effort. Medical libraries are full of data and statistics to support the health benefits of meditation. All I know for sure is my own personal experience. And what I know is that when I’m not meditating, my thoughts are scattered. I can become frenetic in action and in mind.I can get downright grumpy. But when I’m meditating, I carry with me, as my meditation teacher Davidji says, “a thimble full” of silence. And it’s enough.
So, for all of you out there who’d like to begin a practice, or to begin a practice again, I’ve created this short 6-minute video instruction based on my new book, How to Live Your Passion & Fulfill Your Dreams, to give you an easy understanding of meditation. Please let me know if you try it and how it works for you. Namaste.

Adventures in the bookstore
I had just taken a yoga class at the Skagit Valley Co-op, a health food and healthy lifestyle store in my town. I stopped in to their mercantile and found my book on the bookstore shelf. I tried to be cool about it, and not make a scene. But I was pretty darn happy about it. What a wonderful validation! This entire journey with my book, How to Live Your Passion & Fulfill Your Dreams, is inspiring, enlightening and humbling.
Thank you so much for your continued support. If you’d like to see my book on your local bookstore shelves, please let the bookseller know that it’s available through a nationwide distributor, Partners West. Or, you can order it online through nearly any independent bookstore in the country through a website called IndieBound.org. Check it out!
