The Old Man Asks:

The old man counts the hours.
His fingers trace the instants of this world.
A memory deceives him.
A memory conceives him.
The old man is measureless.
The old man is impervious.
He does not have to remember.
He does not have to forget.
He lives to deny.
His water is an ocean.
His face is every mirror.
His plea is my anthem.
Don’t take my dementia away he asks of me.
Don’t make me aware of your brittle joys.
I don’t want your paradise. Your money. Your Bible.
The old man swims in the unknown.
The old man is the visitor of nothings.
The old man is happy.
His marshmallow is his eternity.
His dementia his prophet.
His blank mind his God.
