Mandy Webster lives and works in Central Illinois, USA. She has two sons, two dogs, and two cats (but no affinity for the number two. That’s just a coincidence.) When she’s not writing, she works full-time as an academic advisor and spends as much time as possible in her garden – except when she can find an excuse to travel somewhere new. To track Mandy’s journeys and see pics of her travels, dogs, flowers, and books she’s reading, follow her on Instagram @mandy_raine.

Webster has a Master of Arts in English with a concentration in creative writing as well as a Master of Science in Business Management that she only occasionally uses. She also publishes under the name Amanda L Webster and operates a blog at writeontheworld.wordpress.com if yo

The Ordinary Bruja by J.E. Ortega shows us the histories we’ve been taught to forget

What do we inherit from the generations before us—magic, shame, resilience, silence? In J.E. Ortega’s novel The Ordinary Bruja (coming November 4, 2025), Marisol Espinal returns to her hometown of Willowshade, Ohio, after her mother’s death and finds herself face-to-face with the family secrets she’s been running from. The story unfolds with an atmosphere of both dread and wonder, as Marisol confr

DNFed at 40% because I was tired of waiting for something to happen.

I received an eARC of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

"Sadly, this book did not do it for me. Which sucks because it sounded right up my alley and, in my opinion, has such a unique story idea. The story execution however was just extremely disjointed and patchy, I was often left confused multiple times.

DNFing this at 68%. I can't go on any more. This was really rough. I'd had my eye on this for a while, so it see it in my inbox was a surprise as much as it was a delight. But y'all, I really struggled with this book. It t" Read more of this review »

"This should have been right up my alley but unfortunately, I did not like this book at all. I was expecting like a Midsommar type of vibe but make it queer & demonic & I barely got any of that.

“Might as well get paid for it.”
Amanda L. Webster

“I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes. That way I wouldn't have to have any goddam stupid useless conversations with anybody. If anybody wanted to tell me something, they'd have to write it on a piece of paper and shove it over to me. They'd get bored as hell doing that after a while, and then I'd be through with having conversations for the rest of my life. Everybody'd think I was just a poor deaf-mute bastard and they'd leave me alone . . . I'd cook all my own food, and later on, if I wanted to get married or something, I'd meet this beautiful girl that was also a deaf-mute and we'd get married. She'd come and live in my cabin with me, and if she wanted to say anything to me, she'd have to write it on a piece of paper, like everybody else”
J.D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye

“You will do foolish things, but do them with enthusiasm.”
Colette

“I went to collect the few personal belongings which...I held to be invaluable: my cat, my resolve to travel, and my solitude.”

“Never interrupt someone doing something you said couldn't be done.”
Amelia Earhart
