Remedios: My Unsung Heroes #3 — Poetry reading and full text

My maternal grandmother had what can only be described as a life of quiet heroism. She moved back to Spain from a comfortable life in. New York City where she had immigrated, met and married my grandfather, a fellow immigrant from Spain. They lived at #10 Perry Street in Manhattan — now a famous home in the National Registry. When the civil unrest leading up to what would become the Civil War in Spain, her husband decided (against her advice) to return to their native Galicia in North Western Sp...

Preview reading of my short story Amor Vincit Omnia (love conquers all) — 20 minute video with text

This is a reading of more than half of my short story Amor Vincit Omnia. This short story explores the topic of true love. Can it exist among incompatible species? Should it be embraced wherever and whenever we find it? This is one of the short stories I most enjoyed writing and reading out loud. A reading of excerpts from each of the ten short stories in my Mindscapes collection

It was a fun way to spend a couple of hours putting this together between doing “real” work. I hope yo...

Remembering Our Fallen on Memorial Day

Freedom is your legacy,

Paid for with your precious life,

Far from home and family,

In wars both wise and unwise.

I walk in light thanks to you,

Teach, write, speak, think without fear,

And our flag flies proud and true,

Beacon of hope through the years.

I stand proudly for our flag,

Hand over heart as I sing,

Our Anthem whene’r it plays,

As my voice cracks and eyes tear.

Emotions run high for me,

Not from empty foolish pride,

But because in her I see,

Your most poignant sacrifice.

Freedom comes...
